Bill Simmons throwing Robb Nen under the bus
Bill Simmons really pisses me off here. Not only does he misspell the legend's name, but he has the gall to lump him in with Dan Wheeler. What a shame.
"The lights-out guys (like Papelbon), and the hold-onto-your-seats guys (like Wheeler). When you need three improbable runs, you want the second guy out there. He's the guy who might get nervous. He's the guy who thinks to himself, "Deep down, I know I'm just a very good set-up guy masquerading as a half-decent closer." When the great comebacks happen in baseball, they usually happen with these specific types of guys on the mound -- Donnie Moore, Calvin Schiraldi, Bob Stanley, Jose Mesa, a long-in-the-tooth Rob Nenn -- the guys who can be broken, the guys who can absolutely be taken deep in the right spot."

I don't know why but Ray Durham's face kills me in this picture. He seems to be taking his gamer attitude to new heights and staring into the eyes of a very big, very angry bull. Ryan Braun, on the other hand, seems to be content to act like he is getting involved.
"Hey man, you are a vegetarian now. Don't eat my bratwurst."
Also, feel free to take a crack at what tune Bill Hall is whistling.
Sabean is dumb, but not that dumb Mr. Williams
Found this blurb funny ion SFGATE.COM:
Crede talk: With the White Sox due in this weekend, it is fair to ask why the Giants did not pull the trigger in spring training and trade for Chicago third baseman Joe Crede, who had seven homers and 25 RBIs through Monday.
According to a source, the White Sox first asked the Giants for Jonathan Sanchez, then upped their demand to Sanchez plus either pitchers Madison Bumgarner or Tim Alderson, the team's top two draft picks in 2007, or 17-year-old first-base prospect Angel Villalona. The source said the Giants did not want to give away that much for a player set to become a free agent after the 2008 season.

Who the hell would give up any of those guys for Crede? Is this source just a crackhead from the southside? Could the Giants have even traded Bumgarner this summer? Sanchez alone to me would have been an overpayment.
Wilson getting some love
It may just be because he is the NL leader in saves, but it's nice to see Brian Wilson getting some pub. Pretty lame article, but cool nonetheless:
This little tidbit from a scout was in Stark's latest article:
• Brian Wilson -- "I hadn't seen him much before, but he's something special."

Wilson Betemit
I tend to lurk here and post randomly but I wonder why so little has been discussed of Wilson Betemit. He is as blocked as one player can be, and he would have value to the giants based on his career OPS figures.
Is it crazy to think the Giants could/should make a deal for this guy?
Obviously the injury situation in our rotation doesn't help our chances of putting together a strong package, but I wonder if we might be able to steal him with a Misch/Fred lewis type package. Maybe I am crazy, but of all the 3B options I have seen discussed here, Betemit's name has been absent.
"It's time," Benitez said. "Armando's back."
Third person? really? really, Armando? I guess my point is this:
although he looked like he had a pretty good mix of pitches (two seam fastball, four seam fastball, slider, splitter) last night,
is he allowed to go third person already?
Also consider he has yet to have a 1-2-3 save.
things to make you smile...picture dump
I figured since a few nice GIF's were posted in another diary, including the classics of jeff kent's beaning and the devil being hit with a bat, and since last night's game made me so damn depressed, I felt it was appropriate to post any pictures you have that will warm a giants fan's heart. Here is mine:

wow. just got the chills... Baseball Books
I was doing my usual not-working/perusing the internet thing at work today and came across this gem on ESPN Page 2's website. This is an excerpt from the new book "The Echoing Green" by Joshua Prager detailing the events leading up to "The Shot Heard Round the World". Not only do I plan on buying the book, but I thought it provided an opporunity to share some Baseball books that some of you readers may recommend. I have a few names, but would like to leave it open for you guys to throw some out there. In the meantime, please enjoy this link:

because watching the giants is so depressing...
I figured we could all use some happiness. I am starting my first Diary by asking my fellow Giants Die Hards to recall in any sort of detail they would like their best Live giants moment.
I will start with mine:
Back in 2003, when the Giants were trying to go wire to wire, the Atlanta Braves came into town in August. I went to all three games as I had to get back to Chico to begin the school year and I wanted to get as much Giants baseball in as possible because I had been living in Huntington Beach for the summer.
Game One: Barry hits a walkoff homerun into the Cove as deep as I have ever seen a ball hit into the water. I am talking Buoy (SP. ?) territory. Just an absolute bomb.
Game Two: Edgardo alfonzo comes up in the Ninth and hits a walkoff single to end the game. Once again, the crowd was going nuts and my voice at this point was potentially gone permanently.
Game Three: Barry again hits a dramatic Walkoff bomb that absolutely lit Mays Field on Fire. My voice was so horse that my yells basically sounded like the acne faced simpsons character.
Three walkoff hits in three nights at Mays field. It was amazing and seemed to represent three days of uninterrupted Giants Baseball. 2 walkoff bombs by the man in 3 nights, simply amazing. Please share.
