Revenge of the Birds Is Whisenhunt Really who we Think He is?!?!

First and foremost this is a not a calling for Coach's head, only a question of his career choices and decisioning.

  • Coach comes to the desert and gives us Cardinals faithful a 8 and 8 season. (I knew they built that toaster for a reason)
  • Coach in his only his second year takes the Cardinals to the Superbowl! (what!! the cardinals, in the superbowl???)
  • Coach in his third year, 10 wins!! (wtf! ten wins, we're amazing!)

Revenge of the Birds What do you think our identity is this year?

If you have Larry Fitzgerald on your team you'd think you were gonna throw the ball heavily.

But with the season upon us we start the season with 4 Tight Ends. 2 free agent pick ups, 1 2nd year player, and 1 rookie 3rd rounder. New tight ends all around.

We have 1 feature back as opposed to the past having 2, though we were supposed to have 2 backs.

Which brings us to the question, are we running or passing this year?

Revenge of the Birds Hidden fact about KOLB.

So I'm still mad about losing DRC, thats it no more mention of it.

But listening to Cardinals news on my phone on the NFL network and heard Ron Wolfley bust out a nice lil stat.

Kolb's QB rating in his first 5 games is 85.2, he was knocked out for the season in the beginning of the 6th.

6 to 4 was his TD:INT ratio, 62.8% completion rate, not terrible numbers thru five games. Kolbs numbers are skewed by a week 16 game. Which has the following stats:

18/36 1TD 3INT an excerpt from and espn article reads this:

Revenge of the Birds Two Birds

Long ago, before the Arizona Cardinals, there was the Phoenix Cardinals, look it up.

Talking about this at work, some mentioned that the Phoenix Cardinals were two birds.

This led to naming possibilities for our beloved Cardinals if they were ever gonna change their name. One mentioned Cardinals were rare in AZ, I begged to differ, but than ramblings went on until it got lame, IE: Arizona Gila Monsters/ Arizona Lizards

Whats your best alternate name to Arizona Cardinals?

I suggested..... Rattler's was pretty cool, but of course that belongs to the Arena League, lame.

Revenge of the Birds Last time the Cards didn't make the postseason

The last two times the Arizona Cardinals didn’t make the playoffs, those years are 2007 and 2010. And between the team enjoyed a double digit win season, two division titles, one conference title, and 38 seconds from being Super Bowl XVIII Champions. In the years of 2007-09 I legitimately believed that our beloved Big Red was fully capable of bringing a Lombardi to the desert, why did I believe that? because they were FULLY CAPABLE of doing so, and proved it in 2008.

Fast-forward to current, and the 2011 Cardinals do not inspire me, as did the previous years, I don’t think we are close to a Super Bowl.

In 2007 we had two capable quarterbacks, ML and the Great Kurt Warner, in 2011 we have 1 rookie who showed a flash of great potential (Christmas Day) a proven lifetime inaccurate quarterback, and the runt of the NFL.

In 2007 we had a big name running back still performing as high as he could on a weak team. 2011 I believe we’re better now, we have a 3 young running backs all with great skill, two who haven’t found their niche just yet, and a one-dimension thriller in the third.

In 2007 we had two of the best wide receivers in the game, and they still are. In 2011 we only have one of those league best wide outs, with one who will probably never be better than he was in 2008, and young potential but nothing to brag about.

TE, we were weak than and we are still weak now, we always seem to have a young TE that is almost there: Pope, Patrick, and now Dray.

In 2007 line seemed mediocre at best than, but now proved to be one of the better lines in recent years, easily better than this past year. 2011 doesn’t seem to offer much improvement talent wise.

On the defensive side we had rising stars in 2007, Antonio Smith, Darnell Dockett, Calvin Pace, Gerald Hayes, Karlos Dansby, Antrel Rolle, and Adrian Wilson.

Today we still have Wilson and Dockett, and have great potential in DRC, Washington, Williams, and Schofield. It’s yet to be seen if we will ever field a defense as good as what we had in 2009.

Rackers vs. Feely, in the superbowl I’d take Feely.

Punter we have a league best in Ben Graham, and in 2007 we had somebody named Mike Barr?

Revenge of the Birds Don't Come Back

It’s officially the offseason now, and the market opens up tomorrow.

Rather than speculate on who we may draft, I ask who would you like to see never don a Cardinals jersey again?  Simple question whether it be a player gaining free agent status* or a player with some time left of their contract that has been disappointing and it would be more valuable to open his  roster spot, than to keep him and wishing him to finally reach his potential.

Secondly who do we absolutely have to bring back from FA? And not lose.

Revenge of the Birds Just what I'm thinkin'

I read the other day we need to go 6-3 to fin 9-7. It shocked me when I read that. I know its simple math and easy tinkering but when it was put in my face, it caught me offguard.

From what I saw last week going 6-3 is going to be very difficult.

Reasons:

We play the 49ers 2x, though they may be sleeping the fishes, they can still beat us 2x like last year. They hate us as much as we hate them.

We play the cowboys, who on paper are good, minus the QB, much like us all stars everywhere but under center, and its primetime, and we know how the cards do nationally televised.

We also have a reunion with Todd Haley's 1st place Chiefs, I'm sure we're a big one on his calender.

Those are potentially 4 losses right there. I'm weary.

But this Sunday should be a good benchmark game for us, and show us that we can still beat the Rams, beat the Panthers and Broncos. And not give 9er fans any "ammo" against us, when they claim they are going to take the division next year.

Moving along just some other things that have crossed my mind.

This is just really what I've thought and think may happen this season about all things Cardinals, strictly opinion and hypotheses.

Were 3-4 and we're up in arms as a fanbase, should we still be humble considering we were bad for so long, NO, of course not. The Cardinals had 3 successful season since they came to PHX, 98 which brought on many fans, fans that have stayed for the past 12 years. 08 our most successful year and 09 a successful year by most standards. No other organizations acknowledge us as winners, but we are, and we need to continue to demand that we win and not pack it in for next year as some of our constituents.

We are not out of the division, not by a long shot, the 9ers are. We've proven were better than the Rams, and I hope we still are. We played a good game against filled with stupid turnovers against the Seahawks, lost by 12 with a rookie QB starting. We can win this thing and chalk up another somewhat "successful season"

No one is challenging DRC to a fly route, not by memory anyways. He's getting schooled on slants, hooks, and out routes. Dockett is playing how he always has, I haven't seen him let up or dog it and that's commendable.

Rhodes is playing mighty well, he got pummeled by Blount last Sunday, but I think every safety short of Adub would have too, including you too Polamalu.

We're 0-2 in the black unis.

And thas about it, whatchu thinkin?

PS: AT LEAST WE'RE NOT THE NINERS

Revenge of the Birds Not much more can be done

Not much more can be done to improve our team, strategically that is.

A few things that I feel are huge factors in our season thus far that have not occured and will occur (hopefully).

  • We have not been healthy, namely with our wideouts and linebacker
  • Our marquee defensive players have not showed play at their full potential, Dockett, Wilson, DRC, Porter, where have they been? Have they impressed you at all this season?

But back to the logistics of the team. We've benched Anderson, its ugly that we had to do it, but it was necessary. I hope that no fan of the Cards rooted for this man to perform poorly, but he has. What other personnel moves can be made though?

The first move can be agreed upon by most...

Revenge of the Birds Food for thought

Something I heard today on the radio that gives me increased hope on our season, in addition to the fact that the 9ers are 0-2. Gambo and Ash today, brought to my attention that the Cardinals have yet to put onto the field Larry, Steve, Early, and Beanie all on the field together. Furthermore a package that includes those 3 receivers and Beanie and Tim in the backfield would be crazy awesome.

And you’re crazy in the head if you think that the Cardinals have looked good thus far in the season. We barely beat the Rams and got smoked by the Falcons. The Rams put up the same fight they gave us last week to the Raiders, so it appears by looking at season schedules and standings that we are pretty equal to the Raiders, this weekend will tell us if we are above or below them, yikes!

So though I loath DA, I hope that he can give me something to look forward to this weekend when he’ll have healthier Larry, Steve, Beanie and Tim this weekend, and even further in the season god willing Early.

Revenge of the Birds This makes me feel better about our D

An excerpt from the sando blogs. Eases my mind about our D. hawn from Phoenix writes: Sando, you called the Cards' defense vulnerable. Without the two fumbles deep in Rams territory, this wasn't even a game. The Rams had to throw 50 times to get 250 yds passing and the Cardinals held Jackson to 3.7 yds per carry. The Rams were also max-protecting and still gave up two sacks. The loss of Antrel Rolle is the most overrated of the offseason, and Karlos Dansby never made a Pro Bowl. Watched the game and despite four fumbles, the defense gave up 13 points and that's vulnerable? You're nuts Mike Sando: What I said during the most recent NFC West chat was, "They gave up 325 yards, for the record, but I did not see great things from the Cardinals in terms of team defense. Sam Bradford hit a couple long throws. Mark Clayton was wide open for another one, but he dropped the ball. The Rams converted 10 of 23 times on third/fourth downs. The run defense against Steven Jackson was fine for the most part. The safeties made good plays on the ball. I thought the Rams' offensive line held up better in protection than I would have imagined, and Sam Bradford got rid of the ball quickly." As for Dansby, sounds like he fared OK for Miami in the Dolphins' opener. It's not like reporters covering the Dolphins are lamenting the loss of Joey Porter to this early point, either. We'll find out over the course of the season whether the Cardinals are good on defense. They are healthier than they were when things collapsed late last season. But there's no sense in using a season-opening performance against the Rams as concrete evidence. Mike from Washington writes: Hey Mike, I was reading an article on nfl.com in which experts ranked the

Bolts From The Blue Visiting San Diego!

What up fellas, fellow sbn bloggers?

I'm headed to San Diego next month, to hopefully checkout the cardinals vs chargers game.

I say hopefuly because i dont want to buy tickets online and i doubt i could get tickets from the box office day of. I basically wanna show up at the stadiuim and find some tickets.

So i come here for a few questions:

Will it be easy to find "ticket sellers" near the stadium?

How much am i gonna drop, for any seats, i dont care? preferably the cheapest, for 2 seats?

Where should i park and how should can i get to the stadium?

ETC ETC ETC.

Please give me your best advice, and thanks for the help.

Antrel Rolle was 3-4 plays in and already made his presence know in NY interception and ran about 30-40 yds to the one yard line and in typical Rolle fashion made about 2-3 guys miss on the way.

Revenge of the Birds Pay the man?

Let me preface this blog by saying I like Darnell Dockett.

I like him as a player, his attitude in the game, his demeanor in the game, his commitment to the game. I even like his off the field antics, his constant jawing and daring acts (naked shower). I often argue amongst fans and acquaintants who are disgusted my the antics of the likes of Dockett, Porter, Ocho, and TO.

Would you enjoy the game if all the players were as timid and reserved on and off the field like Peyton Manning (except for sony commercials)?

But this blog is not about evaluating Dockett's attitude, demeanor, and commitment. This blog is about evaluating if Dockett is truly worth the large contract we all seem to be in agreement that he deserves. I know there is a hefty amount of players in the NFL that are overpaid, some how or another someone deemed their salary appropriate well the rest of the NFL world gawked (Deon Branch?). Dockett is good no doubt but should we make him a top earner in the NFL?

Revenge of the Birds We Could have been 11-5

Hey Guys!!!

One of my favorite things to do in a time of boredom is to "youtube", I surf a look a lots a different stuff, almost always end up looking at all things football.

I'm not bitter about the Antrel Rolle loss, though it may seem that way, I'm NOT!

Did I want to lose him? No, I like teams who farm, and not teams who buy. We could have cultivated Rolle into a good FS, but we lost him.

Anywho. I found myself looking at this clip.

Revenge of the Birds Matt Leinart's Runningbacks

I've been thinking about this subject that I'm about to blog about, for awhile, and haven't seen anyone else touch on this. There are a lot doubters about our upcoming starting quarterback, and to them I say this, welcome to Leinart's first season with a good running game at his arsenal.

Below are Leinart's stats with none other than mister Saints, Reggie Bush.

ouch!!

MATT LEINART STATS Passing Rushing
Statistics Att Comp Pct Yds TD Int Rating   Att Yds Avg TD
2005 431 283 65.7 3,815 28 8 157.7   51 36 0.7 6
2004 412 269 65.3 3,322 33 6 156.5   49 -44 -0.9 3

REGGIE BUSH STATS Receiving Rushing
Statistics No Yds Avg TD   Att Yds Avg TD
2005 37 478 12.9 2   200 1,740 8.7 16
2004 43 509 11.8 7   143 908 6.3 6

As you can see above, Matt Leinart's numbers are legendary as are Bush's.

Now see below what #7's current counterpart did while he was studying. Mind you Beanhead missed numerous games in 2008 otherwise he could have very well put up even more disgusting numbers in 2008.

CHRIS WELLS STATS Receiving Rushing
Statistics No Yds Avg TD   Att Yds Avg TD
2008 8 47 5.9 0   207 1,197 5.8 8
2007 5 21 4.2 0   274 1,609 5.9 15

Now lets take a look at what Mr. Leinart was given in his rookie season and how he worked with it. I only point out his rookie numbers because, what the doubters fail to realize, was this was the year where he really ever saw the playing field.

2006

James

16 games

1159 yds on 337 carries

3.4 a carry

Leinart

4-7 W-L record

214/377 for 56.8% completion rate

11-12 TD/INT

Not too shabby for a rookie with an aging RB at his side, 3.4 a carry, yikes!! (I blame the line for that 3.4, well maybe 72% line's fault, and 28% for James)

Lets compare those rookie numbers to another rookie AZ QB that I loved (and than loathed).

Plummer

3-6 W-L record

157/296 for 53% completion rate

15-15 TD/INT

A smidge better.

Revenge of the Birds The Loss of Antrel Rolle

The Arizona Cardinals drafted Rolle #8 overall in the 2005 draft, the 1st defensive back in the draft. He played corner his first 3 years in AZ before it was noticed he was going nowhere at the position and being smoked by the speedy receivers. Rolle than moved, not transitioned, just plained moved to Free Safety, which is a natural fit, IMO, safeties don't have to have lightning speed but should have above average play recognition abilities.

Rolle sufficed at this position and did as well as a failed cornerback could at this position, he did a good job his first year at the position and a better job his 2nd year, but was no where near elite at the position. When i think of a elite FS in the NFL I think: Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, and Darren Sharper. As a Cardinal fan I wouldn't even dare put Rolle in that conversation.

(tell me one of them picked the ball and who has the best shot at getting a pick six out of it and its a different story)

I post this blog, because its the offseason, a time where fans can belittle fans of other teams and boast of their own teams. And what we've seen here and everywhere else is we lost Antrel, how can we (immediately) recover from that.

If your at this site you know his story, mediocre player after the draft, and then injured, only to ride the pine until #13 retired.

Well its his time now, well see if he sinks of floats.

The information I've compiled below entails the team's performances against teams with wining records. Looking at the stats it shows what we already know.

  • Arizona has difficulty rising up against lesser opponents
  • Green Bay wins when they should, with a rogue lost to Josh Freeman

Other information I pull from these stats, I'll take your thoughts below.

  • Arizona is equal with tough competition, hence a .500 record
  • Green Bay has difficulty with tough opponents, fore: if you take away the week17 gimme win from the Red Birds, Packs records falls to measly 2-4
