That didn't take long. One game and my dream of a perfect bracket, shot down in flames.

Double-T Nation I was wrong

about Texas Tech winning in Austin this year.  I had been predicting a win every since the spring game.  I still believe Tech had the team capable of bringing home the victory, but things just didn’t turn to the Red Raiders favor in this game.  Tech certainly didn’t take the beat down the "talking bobble heads" were predicting.  Does Tech have just as good a team this year as last year, as I have also been saying since the spring game?  Yes, and again Yes!  They showed their fortitude against the number 2 team in the nation in one of the most hostile environments in the country.  The Houston game is going to be a test of character for the Red Raiders, a test that I believe they will pass with flying colors.   The game that worries me is the Nebraska game, on the road in Lincoln.  Anyone remember last years’ game in Lubbock and the 2007 game in Lincoln?  Both years Tech fielded the better team, but how fortunate were the Red Raiders to come out with a wins of those two games?   If I am right about the 2009 Red Raiders, they will beat the Cornhuskers in Lincoln again this year.  Wreck’em Tech!

Double-T Nation I'm still replaying last Saturday’s game over and over in my head.

It was certainly not the performance I expected from the Red Raiders offensively.  Potts didn’t play the game as well as I was expecting him to.  Everyone saw him throwing off his back foot, not at all what I saw in the spring game.  Potts may have a strong arm, but not strong enough to zip the ball while falling backwards.  Defensively, the receivers were left uncovered on short passes just beyond or behind the line of scrimmage.  As Tech begins conference play, not covering the receivers on those short routes is a recipe for disaster given the talent level of wide receivers and running backs in the Big XII.   My big question is: did this game reveal the nature and character of this football team?  I still believe this is Tech’s year to beat Texas in Austin, but it won’t happen if they play like they did in this game.  Tech needs to show marked improvement on both sides of the ball in the Rice game.  And yes, I do expect to see a vastly better team this weekend.  Wreck’em Tech!
