I love Minnesota sports. I was raised in a household with a crazy Twins fan and a crazy Vikings/hockey fan. Needless to say, some of their passion rubbed off on me.
All I wish to see in the remainder of my lifetime is a Minnesota Twins/Wild/Vikings championship win. Is that really too much to ask?

Twins 4, A's 0: Liriano's Return to the Rotation a Ringing Success
In his first start back in the rotation since he took a break in the bullpen, Francisco Liriano threw six innings of solid ball. When his first pitch of the game sailed past Drew Butera to the backstop, I'm sure there was a collective sigh heard around the state of Minnesota, as Twins fans anticipated another rough game from the former ace. What happened, however, was surprising--and a huge relief to a team with a very sub-par starting rotation--as Liriano threw six innings, only giving up three hits and two walks. Oh, and the best part? He struck out nine (9!) Oakland batters. Perhaps not as impressive, as Oakland has had notorious issues hitting this season, but for a pitcher with equally notorious mental issues while throwing, today's game had to be a big confidence boost. Also noticeable was Liriano's ability to continue to throw good pitches and not lose him composure after giving up a hit or walk--both very good signs for the Twins lefty.
After he almost struck out the side in the 6th inning (a pesky Collin Cowgill fly out to Denard Span preventing all three batters from being retired via strikeout), and throwing just 88 pitches, he was replaced by Alex Burnettin the seventh. Burnett came in and was able to get Josh Donaldson, Kurt Suzuki, and Daric Barton to pop out to end the seventh. In the eighth inning, Burnett did issue a walk to Cliff Pennington, but Jemile Weekslined into a double play, effectively putting a stop to any trouble Burnett could find. Jeff Gray came in to pitch the ninth, and after striking out one, closed out the game for the Twins, sealing a series sweep for the struggling club.

Radio: 1500 ESPN
White Sox 6, Twins 0: Chris Sale Stymies Minnesota's Offense
The Minnesota Twins certainly won't be sweeping this series with the Chicago White Sox, as they dropped game two of the series 6-0. Chris Sale, the young lefty, managed to keep the Twins bats pretty much silent as they only managed 2 hits in Sale's 7 innings pitched. He also only walked 2 and was able to strike 6 batters out, and only threw 97 pitches in his outing. That is sadly most of the Twins offense for the night, though they did manage two hits off former teammate Jesse Crain, but would wind up scoring no runs.
As far as pitching went for Minnesota tonight, Scott Diamond made his fourth start, and didn't manage to have as good of a game as he'd had in his previous starts. He only went 6 innings, giving up 9 hits, 5 runs (although, only two of them were earned), and one walk. He did manage to strike out four batters as well. Alex Burnett came on in relief of Diamond and gave up one hit and the other run of the evening. Francisco Liriano came in in the 9th to finish the game and managed to keep his streak of scoreless relief innings intact. After giving up no hits, but walking one, he's now at 3 2/3 scoreless relief innings (though they have not come without a little drama at times).

Twins 11, Tigers 7: Blackburn's Best Efforts Can't Stop Twins From Winning
Nick Blackburn was definitely not at his best tonight, and the Twins added another player to the DL when catcher/DH Ryan Doumit hurt his knee. Somehow, though, despite the terrible starting pitching, the Twins' offense managed to step up and not only keep Minnesota in the game, but score more runs than the Tigers and win the whole deal (I know, crazy concept, right?)
Nick Blackburn was only in the game for two innings. In those two innings, he managed to give up 6 hits, 6 earned runs, and two walks. He didn't give up any home runs, though, and did strike out two, so there are your Blackburn positives for the evening. The bullpen managed to stop the bleeding pretty effectively, as they've done most of the season. Jeff Gray was the only member of the bullpen to give up any more runs to the Tigers, and he only gave up two hits and one run. Alex Burnett, Brian Duensing, Jared Burton, and Glenn Perkins combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, giving up only 3 hits and two walks.

Game 37: Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers
Twins 2, Angels 6: Minnesota Sends Valencia to Triple-A, Calls Up Mastroianni
Tonight's game wasn't good for the Twins, much like many (most...) of the games they've played this season. Carl Pavano had his shortest outing of the year so far, only going four innings, giving up 10 hits, 5 runs (only 4 of those earned, thanks to a Joe Mauer throwing error in the third), and only striking out one batter. While Pavano has been a decent solid pitcher for the Twins in the past, tonight was clearly not a good night for him, but the bullpen was able to step in and cover for the starting pitcher, as they've had to do many times in 2012.
Alex Burnett and Brian Duensing came in to try and salvage the game, and for the most part, succeeded. Burnett pitched two innings, gave up four hits and one earned run, and Brian Duensing came in to finish the game, pitching a solid 3 innings with no hits allowed and just one walk.

Twins 0, Angels 9: Jered Weaver No-Hits Anemic Minnesota Lineup
Note: Because of traveling and general busy life-ness, fetch9 took care of the recap for me tonight. Any complaints, talk to him! :)
It is May 3rd. It is May 3rd and yet the Twins season is, for all intents and purposes, over. Of course, that is burying the lead as Jered Weaver threw a no hitter, but against a lineup like the one the Twins threw out there that should come with the biggest asterisk of all time.
Weaver threw 121 pitches, striking out 9 while walking just 1 and allowing another hitter (Parmelee) to reach base via a dropped third strike. Denard Span’s 9th inning at bat featured a couple of dubious strike calls, and both Jamey Carroll and Alexi Casilla hit deep flies in the 9th, but for the most part the Twins offense was as impotent as it has been in quite some time. But though the offense was bad, the pitching and defense was just as bad if not worse.

Game 24: Minnesota Twins at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
For Anaheim:
Boston 7, Minnesota 6: Swept At Home
Let's start with the good news tonight: Josh Willingham's wife had an adorable baby, Chris Parmelee doesn't look too hurt after being hit in the helmet by a Justin Thomas pitch (he was standing up and smiling in the dugout), and the Twins offense actually scored some runs. The bad news? Well, as usual, the starting pitching was subpar, with Liam Hendriks only going 4 innings. He gave up 9 hits (rough...), 7 earned runs (including 1 home run), walked 2, and struck out 3. Not, by any means, a great start. The Twins bullpen, however, definitely managed to keep the team in the game, going a combined 5 innings, giving up only one hit, and striking out 5 (3 of those were Glen Perkins strikeouts, which we'll talk more about later).

Tonight the Twins start a 3-game series in Tampa against the Rays. Liam Hendriks will be making the start in Scott Baker's place, and Matt Moore will be making his home debut at Tropicana Field tonight. It should be a good game, as the Twins are coming off a series split in New York City, winning 2 of 4 against the Yankees.

The Twins look to at least split the series in New York tonight, and will be throwing Jason Marquis out in a Twins uniform for the first time tonight. He'll be facing the Yankees' Hiroki Kuroda, who's had a couple of decent starts thus far. Hopefully the Twins won't forget how to hit the ball tonight, and will be able to get some runs off Kuroda tonight.

Twins 7, Yankees 3: Yeah, That Just Happened
Let me tell you a story, folks: One day, the Minnesota Twins took a trip to New York to play the Yankees, who continually beat them, time after time. The pitcher, Carl Pavano, promptly gave up two home runs in the bottom of the first inning, after his team had managed to score two runs at the top of the inning. The Yankees scored another run in the bottom of the first, and Twins fans all over Twins Territory saw what was coming. But, friends, this story does not end like most...no, this is the legendary tale of When the Twins Beat the Yankees in New York.

Hello, on a Monday! I'm covering tonight's game thread and recap for Brady, and tonight the Twins will be headed to New York City to take on the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium. The weather there, much unlike here, is supposed to be really nice, so enjoy summer-like baseball, even if it's not in your area.

Twins 6, Angels 5: No Longer Winless!
To say the Twins won this game handily would be, well, quite incorrect. Minnesota had the lead (their first of the year!) going into the fifth inning, but promptly gave it up as Peter Bourjos hit an inside-the-park home run to give the Angels a 4-3 lead. Much of Twins Territory groaned in resignation-they've seen this story before, many times-but tonight's ending was much different than anticipated.

After a weird one-day break, the Twins once again take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Target Field. The first game went...well, it could have gone better. Now that the Twins are the only winless team in the league, they really need to battle their tails off, use extra grit and hustle, and play like true gamers tonight.

Twins 8, Miracle 7: It's Real Baseball Time Now
The Twins scraped out a win against their own minor league team, the Ft. Myers Miracle, today, taking the game 8-7. Since there was no radio and no TV, I didn't get much of a chance to follow, so I'm just going by what the box score tells me happened.

Twins 7, Tigers 3: Hughes'ing the Force
Though it's only a spring training game, beating the Tigers is always enjoyable. Luke Hughes, Chris Parmelee, Ryan Doumit, and Joe Benson all combined to get the Twins' offense going. Hughes, however, had a great day at DH, going 2-for-3, with 2 runs scored, a walk, 3 RBI, and one strikeout.

Very Late Recap: Twins 6, Phillies 4
The Twins chased Roy Halladay out of the game today in the third inning. Sure, it's only a spring training game, but still...that's pretty cool. Josh Willingham and Chris Parmelee both stepped up with home runs today, and Span went 3-for-4, which is very encouraging (I'm ignoring the caught stealing...this time). Overall, a good game for the Twins today at Bright House Field.

Baltimore 6, Minnesota 0: Jason Bulger Is Fun
Apologies for the late recap, a couple things came up earlier today!
The Twins made the trip to Sarasota today to take on Baltimore and well...I guess we should be happy there was no video of the inning in which Bulger pitched. In the 7 batters he faced, Bulger walked one, hit one, and allowed four hits, giving the O's 4 quick runs. Fortunately (or unfortunately, I suppose, depending on how you look at things), Bulger was not the only Twin having issues today, but it's certainly been a rough spring for the former Diamondback.

Twins Winter Meeting Notes: Cuddyer, Buerhle, Pujols
Update, 3:50 pm
Mark Buerhle to the Marlins. 4 years, $58 million, says Ken Rosenthal.
Update, 1:08 pm - It sounds like southpaw Erik Bedard is close to signing a one-year contract with the Pirates for $4.5 million dollars. If the Twins plan on signing decent pitching at affordable prices, the boats have started sailing here too.
Update, 12:30 pm
Not much on the Twins front, but some interesting things throughout the rest of baseball.
Item #1
-Bryan Hoch, who covers the Yankees for MLB.com tweeted one of the best things you Twins fans will probably read today. "Heard Nakajima's bat could be better than Twins' Nishioka, but not as good a fielder". So, that's kind of fun. Also, this obviously means the Yankees won the rights to Nakajima.
Item #2
-Dan Knobler of CBSSports.com believes that if the Marlins don't get Albert Pujols, they'll make a hard run at Prince Fielder. Their rotation is apparently set as is, so they don't need to worry about spending more money there. The Rangers have apparently also expressed interest in Fielder, but would have to work on a deal that wasn't so long, according to Jon Heyman.
That's all I've got for now. Let's hope something fun happens before the 6 o'clock roundup!
Update, 10:40 am - The Rockies and Padres will complete a trade which will send Huston Street and his $7.5 million salary to San Diego for a player to be named later. This PTBNL is likely to be a non-prospect since the Padres are picking up Street's tab. With Street's obvious availability, and with Ryan's insistance that the organization was looking externally for a proven closer, I do find it somewhat odd that Minnesota wasn't mentioned at all. Target Field would play well for Street, whereas Coors Field was a hell hole for him (and nearly every other pitcher, cough, Kevin Slowey, cough).
Update, 10:20 am - Per LEN III, the Twins will be in attendance for Joel Zumaya's workout next week. Zumaya throws hard and can strike batters out, but needs a year or two to rebuild value and prove he can throw 60 innings without his arm falling off.
8 am updates...
The Twins haven't been talked about much this morning (yet!) at the Winter Meetings in Dallas, and most of the attention is still on the whole Pujols-to-Miami-maybe situation, but there are a couple Twins notes from last night's roundup that we can discuss today (and more Pujols. Everyone wants more Pujols).
