Advanced Stats...

Hello everyone, I have been a member since '09, but rarely post because I never have anything relevant to add to the conversation (but I follow the site avidly). I follow the advanced statistics somewhat and I have had a nagging question in my mind that I have not seen answered by any of the stats yet. I was wondering if a play-making stat could be developed to measure a player's passing ability. The way I have imagined it is to correlate passes to shots or quality chances. If this has already been developed I apologize, but if not I was wondering if someone could do a prototype analysis of one of the Flyers games to see how it would work. Thanks! Edit: I believe this stat would be useful for projections on a players ability regardless of his linemates. For example, Couturier has had poor linemates for the duration of the year, and thus he should not be expected to put up a large amount of assists. This could measure how well he does at setting people up regardless of what they do once he makes a good play.

G currently leads the league in shorties @ 2. He is scoring them at .67 a game. At this rate he will score about 55 shorties over the course of the season. And for all of those people who think that I am not serious...well...actually im not, but it is interesting to see this statistical anomalie, (and it would be awesome if he did not regress to the mean in some LOSTesque world where anything is possible) On another note G has made himself a jabroni in my book.

Was watching the "TOP 10 Goals 2009-2010" @ NHL.com and remembered Girouxs amazing goal against the thrashers...since theres nothing else to talk about...does anyone else feel like he got snubbed on that list becuase he is not a household name yet? Here's the link to the NHL top 10 video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adm-HNPnFN0

Broad Street Hockey Question...

Ive read this blog from the beginning, and finally became a member a few months ago, and have always voted in the fan confidence polls...and this one nagging question keeps coming back-what specifically is fan confidence-confidence that the flyers will be succesful? confidence that they will make playoffs? confidence that they will win the cup? or simply confidence that the GM/owner/coaches are making the right decisions for the team? ...any thoughts...i was hoping ben or travis or one of the staff writers could clear this up for me

Broad Street Hockey Goaltending situation for the 2010-2011 season?

Speculate here about what you would like to see in net for the Flyers for this (and hopefully future seasons). Personaly, i would love to aquire Nabokov, i love his style and he would provide a excelent starter for the Flyers, without having to trade anyone, but realistically with the cap singing Nabokov would most likely mean losing Carter the following season.

Interesting article on what the best-ever Flyers team would look like...on another note Jim Watson made the list who was my coach a couple of years back.

This was a horribly officiated game. I’ll take the win, but sheesh did the Flyers get screwed on some of those calls.
