Hosmer: Time is now
Some good quotes from Hosmer in the article..
"I’m not asking our fans to be patient," he said. "They’ve waited long enough. They want to win now, and so do we.
"You won’t find much patience in our clubhouse.
"Last season may have been about development, or planning for the future.
"But this year is the future. This year is about winning."
I hope so. I (expletive)ing hope so.
Sweeney on Tebow
A good read..
Predictably he says...
"To be honest, I applaud Tim," Sweeney told me by phone. "I think what he is doing shows a lot of courage. It's easy to profess your faith when everything is going well. But he has stood there tall through all the criticism and never wavered. I applaud that."
But, Sweeney also said, he understands why some people might view Tebow's relentless references to the scripture and to Jesus Christ as a bit over the top.
"We all have different styles," Sweeney said. "That's definitely not my style. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Tim's style. It's just not me."
Later it says...
Sweeney has plenty of empathy for Tebow because he knows first-hand, too, how hard it is to live the Christian lifestyle in today's sports world.
"Your faith can get tested a lot," Sweeney said. "You get called a lot of names like 'Jesus Freak' or 'God Squader.' It can be tough. I know from my experience that before I got married, I didn't date for years and I got accused of being gay. It was really ridiculous. And then I got accused of being a hypocrite because I charged the mound against Jeff Weaver.
"I also got accused of being a bad teammate because I didn't go out drinking with the guys or go out to booby bars. But that wasn't the lifestyle that I chose. But as a Christian, you have to stand up strong for what you believe in, and in the sports world, that can be a challenge. That's what I really respect about Tim Tebow – that no matter what anyone thinks or says about him, he stands for what he believes in. I really do applaud him for that."
Also Ryan Lefebvre has some opinions of his own in the article

Should I quit before I start or keep on keepin' on?
C'Mon Guys, Andrew Luck!? Stop.
I hate so much that a lot of you are rooting for us to get Luck more than you are rooting for the Chiefs to bounce back and have a good season. I don't know if its some sarcastic way of handling whats happened or if you truly want us to blow. Ya, we realistically could be an awful team now with Berry out and how terrible we were, but after 1 game you're gonna toss the season away!? If we end up going 0-5 and worse, then I'll understand it a little more, but for now, get your heads out your asses and root for the Chiefs, don't root for their demise to get Andrew Luck which is more than likely not gonna happen anyways because we won't be the worst team. Go Chiefs!

Trade Billy Butler?
The Royals desperately need starting pitching soon. Obviously there is no way we'll compete the next 2 years without getting some pitching. Butler has proven to be a legitimate hitter if nothing else, and I think he could net a good starting pitcher. We also have Clint Robinson who continues to mash in AAA. I have no clue what Clint could contribute to the big league club, but I like the Royals chances better with Clint at DH and whatever starting pitcher comes along in a Butler deal, then if we just kept Butler. Do I think this ever happens? No. But I'd like it to. Especially with teams like the Pirates who are in buy mode that have Lyle Overbay at 1st hitting .236/.304/.357. So I guess I'm just asking if anyone else would be on board with this idea?

Flex Scheduling (Chiefs vs Chargers)
Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL will have the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format.
For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior.
So if I'm interpreting this correctly, the decision will have to come this Tuesday and we will know by Wednesday if the Chiefs at Chargers game will be flexed to Sunday Night Football on NBC for December 12th.
Currently the game scheduled is Philadelphia at Dallas. Another Cowboys game on prime time? NBC is drooling.

Domincan Republic Police charge Ambiorix Burgos with Attempted Murder
Police have charged former major league pitcher Ambiorix Burgos with kidnapping and attempted murder after his ex-wife said she was forced to eat rat poison.
This after charges were dropped from the hit and run case in 2008 where 2 women were killed..
and after he was sentenced to 9 months in jail for assaulting his girlfriend near Shea Stadium last year..
Wow.
Eric Byrnes, Fomer All-star MLB player, Current Softball Masher
Walk off the basepaths and crack a beverage because Eric Byrnes no longer has to work nights and is available to serve as a ringer in your local softball league.
No, really. Three days after being served his release by the Seattle Mariners, the 34-year-old outfielder has found his way back onto the field. He's still getting paid the same as his MLB days for his new work in softball — thanks, Arizona! — but the ball is much bigger and coming in at a much slower rate of speed.
"This is going to be a blast," he said. "Playing with my buddies. I can't wait for my first hit. I'm going to ask for the ball."
This is hilarious, I've always liked Eric Byrnes because he plays played the game hard and ran every ball out, and he provides laughs when he is mic'd up or dives for a ball that he is 5 ft short of. Good for him to have fun and not be a depressed bum because he got cut. But the 11 mil salary probably helps some of that.

Callaspo Injury Update
Club officials continue to say the injury doesn’t appear serious, but Callaspo did not take part Saturday in any baseball activities and isn’t likely to do so today, either. The fear is ongoing examinations will reveal a strained oblique muscle, an injury that typically sidelines a player up to six weeks.
"We’re going to get a better read (today)," Hillman said. "It’s usually 24-48 (hours before you know). He came in feeling a lot better, and it wasn’t that bad (on Friday). We still think it’s going to be OK."
Lets hope its not 6 weeks, then Fields is our starting third basemen on opening day.

Ron Washington tested positive for...
Rangers manager Ron Washington tested positive for Cocaine last season during July. Yes, Cocaine.
Washington, 57, has been subject to increased drug testing since his failed test, which was administered by Major League Baseball last July, and he has passed all of his subsequent tests. In deciding to support Washington and retain him as manager, the Rangers accepted his apology as heartfelt and also his explanation that this was a one-time transgression.
"I did make a mistake and I regret that I did it," Washington told SI.com by phone from Surprise, Ariz., on Tuesday night. "I am really embarrassed and I am really sorry"

Farnsworth to get a chance at starting
Didn't like Kyle Farnsworth as a relief pitcher? Hang on, he might be a starting pitcher for the Royals this year.
"Kyle Farnsworth is competing for a job in the rotation," pitching coach Bob McClure revealed Wednesday.
That's right, the big right-hander will at least get a chance to show what he can do as a starter in Spring Training.
"We're going to lengthen him out and see how it goes," McClure said. "Because what he showed me last year was the ability to back off a little bit and not pitch with his hair on fire. And, to be a starter, you have to be able to just kind of go pitch-by-pitch."

Just watching the KU game on tv and noticed that Paul Splittorf was on the broadcast and he sounds great. I think we can expect him to be back on Royals broadcasts next season
"Mark, there's no crying in baseball. You know that." - Jose Canseco
Referring to McGwire's teary eyed admission, this is part of a response that Canseco has put out to McGwire after McGwire insisted that none of what Canseco said about him was true.
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw him say this on SportsCenter.
Jamey Wright's Wild Pitch
Not sure if you guys remember this one. I was checking some highlights (and lowlights) of the Royals this year and stumbled across this one. Great Stuff.
Braves Non-Tender Kelly Johnson
Get ready. He is bound to be a royal.
Whats going on with Mike Aviles?
Have the Royals just forgotten about him? This guy had one hell of a rookie year. I know he sucked last year, for the little time he played, but that could have been a result of him being injured. So I guess what I'm asking is.. Is Aviles hurt? and if not, Is Aviles still going to be our SS or are we really just going to play that P.O.S. Betancourt over him? I definitely feel he still deserves a starting shot because of what he did in '08. Anyone got answers?
