Paul Splittorff To Take Time off

Anyone who watched the Royals broadcast knows that Paul Splittorff did not sound normal yesterday and it brought up a lot of questions that maybe he had a stroke..  On the broadcast Ryan Lefebvre...

Pena Makes Opening Day Roster

nope not that Pena.. TONY PENA JR. DAMNIT. FRISCO, Texas -- Backup shortstop Tony Pena Jr. has made the roster, and the 11-man pitching staff has been virtually set, manager Trey Hillman said before Friday night's exhibition game against Texas.

"Bennett or Acosta and Prado for Gordon !!!"

Oh my god.. my friend who is a braves fan and also a royals fan went ahead and informed me of this post on talking chop... Please feel free to to click the link but beware viewer discretion is advised.. the offer could make you sick.. To acquire him we would have to part with some pitching, such as Campillo, Bennett, or Acosta ?? I would part with maybe Bennett or Acosta and perhaps a Morton or Reyes and if they want a middle infield replacement we could throw in an Prado. My offer: Bennett or Acosta and Prado for Gordon !!! also when other braves fans laughed at him for this offer he simply replied Absurd be happy if they took the offer then your missing my point they always take our trash, obviously you guys aren’t getting it. They are so dumb they would do it I am telling you.

Marlins No Hit Tigers

Ricky Nalasco pitched 7 scorless with 8 strikeouts then in the 9th.. Leo Nunez closed out the game.. How weird this comes on a day where the royals and angels combine for 15 HRs... By the way the MLB record for most homers in a regular season game is 12.. obviously they dont keep records for spring training.

Cubs sign Esteban German

According to a press release from the team, the Cubs signed infielder Esteban German to a minor league deal. He was released by the Royals last week after clearing waivers. German, 31, hit .245/.303/.338 in 242 plate appearances last year while playing in left field as well as all around the infield. Presumably the Cubs consider German a possible third base backup; he played 281 innings at the hot corner in '07 and 43 in '08. The Cubs will have the option of keeping German for 2010, as he'll be arbitration-eligible after '09. First Gathright.. Now German..

Astros Sign Neal Musser

The Astros signed left-handed reliever Neal Musser to a minor league deal. Musser was designated for assignment by the Royals two weeks ago when they signed Tug Hulett. Musser only appeared in one game for the Royals a year ago, but made 17 appearances in '07. Tyler Lumsden, Jason Smith, and now Musser!?!?.. they are going to far.

"Horacio was much, much better," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "If we'd played clean baseball behind him, he gets out of his three innings in about 35 pitches. He was outstanding today."

"I wonder if his cousin even existed. That was my first thought. Is his cousin made up? I don't know. He wouldn't give his name or anything. I can understand he might be trying to protect him. I believe he's been clean since then (2003). He's a great player. He didn't need to take that in the first place." -- Kansas City Royals left-hander John Bale.

Royals Avoid Arb With Mark Teahen

Mark Teahen and the Royals agreed Sunday to a one-year contract worth $3,575,000 and avoided a salary arbitration hearing. Kansas City has one player remaining in arbitration: first baseman Mike Jacobs.

"But I think we've acquired a proven guy in Kyle Farnsworth and we like Doug Waechter, Robinson Tejeda and certainly [Ron] Mahay, [Jimmy] Gobble and [John] Bale give us three quality lefties. And we've got the big guy at the back with [Joakim] Soria, so I like the blend of pitchers that we have."

"They jumped in the hot tub and played ping pong and card games. They were here about 3 1/2 hours after the workout was over," Hillman said. "That's what I wanted it to be -- laid back -- and they felt comfortable being at our home and we got enough work in. And everybody seemed to enjoy themselves."

Phillies sign former Royals Great..

The World Champion Phillies added more bench depth as well, signing Damon Hollins to a $450,000 minor league contract, $65,000 of which is guaranteed. He can request his release if not on the 25-man roster by July 1, and also has a provision to sign with a Japanese team for $100,000 or a Korean team for $50,000 or must be added to the 25-man roster within three days of the denial.

"I'm definitely not a Gold Glover over there, not yet anyway," Jacobs said. "It's something that I definitely take pride in, and I want to be good over there. I think the only way you get better is by playing over there and getting more reps. I'll go into Spring Training and work hard and try to improve."

Newly Trim and Slim Butler's Role is Uncertain

Just where Billy Butler fits into the Royals' scheme of things isn't clear just yet. What is clear, however, is that he'll fit into his uniform a lot better when Spring Training starts next month. He's a trimmer and firmer looking Butler. "I don't really know how much I've lost, but I've lost a lot of body fat and this is the best shape I've ever felt," Butler said. "This is the first offseason I could really concentrate on it. I didn't play winter ball or instructional league like I've done every year so I got to go home and get a completely really good workout program going." Butler, the Royals' primary designated hitter the last two seasons, is in that throng of first basemen/DH types that Hillman will be sorting through at camp. He's in there with Mike Jacobs, Ross Gload, Ryan Shealy, Mark Teahen and Kila Ka'aihue. Where does he fit? "People higher up make those decisions," he said. "Ultimately I'm going to go out there and, if I'm in the lineup, I'll do what I'm capable of doing and, if not, I'm going to work hard to get in there the next day." "I worked out really hard this offseason," he said. "My goal was those balls that hit off the wall are going to go out now." I'll be some kind of pissed if our 22 yr old 1st Round Draft pick sits on the bench for Ross Gload this season.

Royals Callaspo Breaks Up Perfect Game

Puerto Rico's Nelson Figueroa flirted with perfection Sunday in his Venezuelan league debut at Maracaibo as Cardenales de Lara edged Águilas de Zulia 1-0 in 10 innings during semifinal playoff action. Figueroa (1-0), who until two days ago was active with the Águilas Cibaeñas of the Dominican League, struck out 11 batters over 10 innings before allowing a clean hit to Alberto Callaspo. Juan Rincón finished for the Cardenales, notching his third save of the playoff round. Chris Hernández (0-1) was the loser.

Royals Avoid Arb with Buck and Peralta

That makes only four players remaining with cases: Brian Bannister, Zack Greinke, Mike Jacobs and Mark Teahen. The Royals have not gone to arbitration with any player since Dayton Moore took over as general manager.

The Orioles invite 3 Ex Royal Allstars to Camp

Craig Brazell, Alberto Castillo, and Donnie Murphy.. how'd we let these guys get away!

Rob Neyer Chimes in on the Bloomquist Signing

Neyer : Really? He's a hustler and he hustles? Do you get double-secret extra credit for that? And this might be the first time that a player with a .322 career on-base percentage has been described as "an on-base guy." At least by a modern, (presumably) Web-equipped baseball man. Why not also describe Bloomquist as a "doubles guy"? After all, he did hit one double last year.

I Was Thinking

Ya know who would be a great pickup.. Trading for Giants LHP Noah Lowry.. Ive always liked this guy and I think when healthy can put up some good numbers.. He really doesnt fit in with them...

Jose Guillen: Huge Bust

The Link is a list of the top 10 Bargains last year and the top 10 busts. Jose Guillen was the 2nd biggest bust.. and was worth -11.1 million dollars then we paid him.. Andruw Jones was the biggest and was worth -15.7 million.. which would bring his contract to -1.6 mil

I Know It Means Nothing

But Brayan Pena is having a ridiculous winter league... Check it. Brayan in 164 AB's has a .341/.423/.567 with a .990 OPS he also has 8 Homers and 38 RBI's and he isn't supposed to have good power so I hear. This guy is GOING OFF.. Other Noteables - Mike Aviles .321/.379/.491 - .870 OPS in 112 AB's 0 homers though -- 9 2B's and 5 3B's Alberto Callaspo .303/.364/.379 - .742 OPS in 198 AB's 1 HR and only 11 Strike outs Kila Ka'aihue .239/.432/.423 - .854 OPS in 71 AB's and 3 HR's and 22 BB's Esteban German .344/.459/.465 - .924 OPS in 157 AB's and 23 RBI's, 31 BB's and 19 SB's Miguel Olivo .163/.268/.306 - .574 OPS in 49 AB's and 1 HR Again I know it means nothing.. but interesting

Braves Organization Vows to Never Sign Another Wasserman Media Group Client

Well after the Braves felt like they got screwed hard in this Furcal situation the Braves and President John Schuerholz vow to never do buisiness with Arn Tellem's and Paul Kinzer's clients again... What does this have to do with us Royals fans? Well simple.. JoGui to the Braves was mentioned a lot when we were hoping to trade him and now, thats just not gonna happen as Guillen is a member of the Arn Tellem Agency known as The Wasserman Media Group.. Damn. What will we ever do with this Guillen guy ?
