Mirko CroCop not retiring:
"I don’t know. First of all I will take a rest, definitely I will talk with Lorenzo [Fertitta, UFC owner]. I closed this last contract with him and yes I will definitely talk with him. But I really cannot say right now if I will continue fighting. I think for me to keep fighting, the conditions would have to be right," the MMA legend told us when we asked what he had planned.
"What I mean by that is, first of all the fights have to be inspiring. It has to be an opponent that makes me inspired to go through eight weeks of hell with [trainer Ivan] Hippolyte. People say to me, "Couture has 46, 47 years and he is still fighting, so you still have many years left". But people forget, he has had 16 or 17 fights altogether in his career.
"I have 35 in MMA and 26 in K-1 and then 44 amateur boxing matches before that - I have had three times more fights than Randy. So of course I am not old in years, but believe me, I have been around!" Filipovic added.
Dana White celebrates.

Toe 2 Toe owes Spencer Fisher 18 grand:
"Just so no one else gets caught in the same situation I'm in right now, they owe $18,000. They have made no attempts to pay the debt after being promised several times over the past year that it was on its way. I'm the same as anyone else and I have a family and bills. So don't let this happen to you.
I've been made so many promises that 'The money is being sent today!', or "Oh the money's been sent!'. Its all been bullshit. "

Ken Shamrock admits to using steroids during his career:
Asked on HDNet's Fighting Words with Mike Straka whether he used steroids, Shamrock answered, "Absolutely."
Shamrock then went on to say there's a certain degree of hypocrisy among fans, both in MMA and in other sports, who cheer steroid users while they're competing only to play dumb when steroid users get caught.
"They want home runs, baby," Shamrock said. "They want people jacking them out of the park. But then when they find out about it they want to stick their heads in the sand and say, 'How bad, that was stupid, you're crazy, don't let him in the hall of fame.' It's like let's point the finger. ... Nobody wants to take responsibility, but everyone wants to see it."
Although anabolic steroids are illegal, Shamrock said acquiring them is easy for a professional athlete.
"It's like going to the grocery store," Shamrock said. "It's that easy. It's that simple."

Tito Ortiz talks about his neck surgery:
"I’m about 40% you know with my neck just because of it’s only six weeks after surgery. You know you guys can see the scar that I got out of it and a year or so it’ll be gone, hopefully, but in the next two months I’ll be back into training. Yesterday, actually my doctor gave me the go ahead to start doing weight-training, boxing, so… you know, slow steps, but getting back to where I’m healthy and no more pain and able to fight at my full potential and that’s what I want to do, you know. I’m just sick of fighting with injuries and now that they’re gone and you know now it’s time to get back in the saddle and try to get my world title back."
"I think rehab’s the biggest thing. Getting back to my full strength, you know I’m about 205 right now and this is the lightest I’ve ever been, you know, after any fights or I got as low as 199 but I may get back to about 225. My normal walk-around weight, you know, 220-225. But bringing in young guys, you know wrestlers, possibly going to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado to train with some of the wrestlers. I need to get back to my roots and that’s wrestling and that’s what it comes down to. When you have no injuries you’re able to do those things and that’s what I’m going to do."

Paulo Filho out of fight with Hector Lombard, blames visa issues:
"It seems the event took too long in sending out the letter I needed to present at the consulate and I’m not sure but it could be there was some kind of failure on the part of my managers. So, I won’t get my visa in time. I’m really upset because I’ve been training a lot. I did everything just right; I don’t know what to say."
"It got me down, but I’m not going to stop training. Something good will turn up."

UPDATE:
Bellator CEO tells MMAJunkie the fight is still a go:
"I've been on the phone with all the appropriate people and we've got everything in line."
Rebney today spoke to Filho's representatives, who said that Filho is traveling from Brazil to the U.S.on Monday and will have his pre-fight medical paperwork completed the next day. But there is a Plan B if Filho fails to materialize.
"We've backed ourselves up; we've done everything we needed to do in protecting the sanctity of that event, but my hope is that he shows up," Rebney said. "I think Hector Lombard deserves this fight."
Rebney declined to name Filho's possible replacement but said it is an opponent known to mixed-martial-arts fans.

Reed Harris comments hours before landmark WEC PPV:
As you can imagine, this is a big night for us...and so you know, Dana has stepped up and given this thing everything he has,,,and we couldn't be more grateful. We are a team at Zuffa... all we want is for the event to be as big a success as we know it can be. Dana helping out has been huge!
As you know, Dana announced the largest fighter bonus's in the history of the company (he wouldn't even tell me prior to the meeting...I was blown away)... you should have seen the fighters faces... I felt pretty emotional as these are guys that have given the WEC everything... and I know in my heart that they will go out there tonight and do what they always do, make us all proud to be able to work with them and know them.
I feel really good about tonight.... Ill tell you what, if you could have seen the fighters faces when Dana announced the bonus's, it was actually a pretty emotional moment for me... they started yelling and clapping.... and as they left every single guy shook my hand.....
So, I can tell you this...theres not going to be any goofing around, lay and pray or guys playing it safe tonight...this thing is going to be On!
Like I said [earlier]...If you can afford it and buy it tonight, I appreciate it...if not but you still watch on Versus....thanks for that as well.
It's been almost 10 years of work, always tried to do the right thing, do the fighters right,,,,,,and hopefully this thing will do what I think it can.
Putting the suit on...getting ready to head over.... hope you guys all enjoy the show..and if your at Arco... come over and say hi...

Tennessee AC to open investigation into Gracie Camp Brawl:
"The Tennessee Athletic Commission plans is launching an investigation into a post-event brawl that concluded the CBS-televised "Strikeforce: Nashville" event at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville this past weekend.
The commission is likely to investigate who's to blame for the fiasco. Additionally, officials from the regulatory body surely will re-evaluate procedures that allowed so many cornermen and other camp members to enter the cage."

Joe Rogan: Anderson didn't want to fight Vitor, GSP/Silva never going to happen now
During this weeks Joe Rogan ustream Joe was discussing the aftermath of UFC 112. At around the 46 minute mark Joe says that he doesn't think that Anderson and Ed Soares wanted to fight Vitor (transcribed by yours truly):
[Vitor] looks scary as f**k. And Anderson, you know, did not want that fight. They were talking mad shit to each other. Anderson's manager was trying to say that Vitor doesn't deserve the title fight, like, what are you talking about? He's the scariest motherf**ker at 185 besides Anderson. Of course he deserves it. I don't think they wanted that fight. I think, you know, they can talk all the shit they want about him being weak, "Vitor's weak and he breaks mentally." He comes at you in that first round and you have to fight him before you break him. And before you break him he's throwing light-speed, f**king barrages of punches like noone else in the business. He's scary as f**k. And if he is a better, more matured person, if he is really centered now to where he's not going to break and all of the stuff he went through made him stronger - if that's the case, everyone's f**ked. Cuz that guy is a freak. He is so f**king fast. He might be the only guy that's faster than Anderson. He's a counterstiker. And he's not as long as Anderson so Anderson would have a little bit of a reach advantage. But goddamn, Vitor is fast as f**k. He's a super athlete.
On the GSP vs Silva fight:
It was going to happen. They'll never do that now. They can't trust Anderson. Now they can't trust him to perform. And this is what I was saying before, this is why [Silva vs Maia] was so important . This is why they're so pissed, okay, because of the last two rounds and him just running away. The UFC is - ten percent of it is owned by Flash Entertainment which is the royal family in Abu Dhabi, and this was like a huge showcase for them. This was like their big acquisition and they're partners now. They're gonna help bring the UFC to all of these markets all over the world, so everyone's excited about this.
So then they have this huge event where it's like a three million dollar gate. They have f**king Ferrari World - they put it in Ferrari World. It's the first outside [octagon], the [arena] looks fantastic, the crowd is insane. The crow is super pumped up ,they are awesome. Everybody is super pumped and ready to go. Every fight was chaos, except for the BJ Penn/Frankie Edgar fight - that fight was close. But the rest of the fights were wild fighters before that like Brad Blackburn and Demarques Johnson- goddamn! Kendall Grove and Mark Munoz, that f**king fight was awesome. The crowd is hyped to the gills. Anderson Silva comes in, they go f**king crazy. The music plays, they see him dancing, and they're going f**king bananas. And he runs for the last two rounds.
And, dude, it was a disaster. Everyone walked out of their with their head hung, shaking their head going "what the f**k?" Everyone was disapointed. It wasn't like there was two arguments - some people were saying "Well, I see his point, why take a chance." No, everyone was bummed out.
What the UFC sells is just wild shit. You're selling wild f**king chaos, fights, the most exciting sport in the world. What Anderson Silva is selling is he's the very best at the wild sh*t. And meanwhile he didn't do it. The last two rounds he just ran away. That's terrible for the business. It's terrible for what the UFC is trying to accomplish in other countries. It's terrible for their new partnership with Flash Entertainment. It's terrible.

Smile, you're on national television acting a fool!
Shane Carwin responds to the Cesar Gracie camp brawl on CBS:
"Just no room for this kind of stuff in the sport. We are just feeding the ignorant critics, and on live TV no less."
"From what I read those guys should be ashamed of themselves. This is not a barn yard brawl. These actions are not needed in this sport!
"Gotta blame the Shields camp here."
This is not crips vs bloods it is a sport which requires SPORTSMANSHIP. Seems basic. "

Patrick Cote says Anderson Silva "crossed the line" at UFC 112:
"I think there’s a difference between being cocky and disrespectful. And in this fight I think Anderson crossed the line. You can be cocky. I have no problem with that."
"I think he crossed the line and was very disrespectful toward Demian Maia. I didn’t like his attitude, but the other way is he’s the best in the world. Nobody can beat him, so maybe he can do whatever he wants."
"My goal is not to beat Anderson Silva. My goal is to be a world champion. If he’s still the champion when I have another title fight, I’ll fight him and I’ll beat him."

Unbiased assessment of Chael Sonnen's chances against Anderson Silva

When my music hits those speakers on Aug. 7, I will make that walk. - Chael Sonnen
It's been an interesting few years for Chael Sonnen. Once a man mocked on internet forums for his infamous "I didn't tap" submission loss to Paulo Filho, he is now a fan favorite over one of the greatest, if not the greatest fighters of all time, Anderson Silva. Thanks to his burgeoning ability to hype and win fights in a weight class utterly devoid of any characters the likes of a Brock Lesnar, Tito Ortiz, etc, Chael is on the precipice off the biggest fight of his life.
So now the question is "How does he win?" I think most people here know that his best chance of winning is through doing exactly what he did to Dan Miller, Yushin Okami, and Nate Marquardt - dominate with wrestling. Chael even admits it himself:
"As soon as Anderson tries to punch me, I'm going to stick my forehead in his chest, run him against the fence, pick him up, put him on the canvas and that's the end of that round. As soon as Anderson tries to kick me, I'm going to stick my forehead in his chest, run him into that fence, put him on the ground, that's the end of that round."
"I am five strike attempts by him away from being the UFC champion."
Chael is definitely trash talking, but he's not bluffing. Travis Lutter, Rich Franklin, Thales Leites, Dan Henderson, etc have all taken Anderson down, so I have no doubt that he will be able to take Anderson Silva down.
The only question is what will Sonnen proceed to do once he gets the fight there. Against Miller, Okami, and Marquardt his strategy was to use his wrestling to smother them and do ground-and-pound when he could. And it worked. In fact, it works in almost every fight he is in where he can exploit his opponents lack of submission skills off their backs.
But what happens when he fights someone who is good off of their back? Let's take a look at his loss record for the past seven years:
![]()
![]()
Loss Demian Maia Submission (Triangle Choke) UFC 95 - Sanchez vs. Stevenson 2/21/2009 1 2:37
![]()
Loss Paulo Filho Verbal Submission (Armbar) WEC 31 - Faber vs. Curran 12/12/2007 2 4:55
![]()
Loss Jeremy Horn Submission (Armbar) UFC 60 - Hughes vs. Gracie 5/27/2006 2 1:17
Loss Renato Sobral Submission (Triangle Choke) UFC 55 - Fury 10/7/2005 2 1:20
Loss Jeremy Horn Submission (Guillotine Choke) SF 6 - Battleground in Reno 9/23/2004 2 2:35
Loss Forrest Griffin Submission (Triangle Choke) IFC - Global Domination 9/6/2003 1 2:25
Even if Sonnen is getting immediate takedowns a la GSP vs Hardy, what are the chances that Sonnen can play in Anderson Silva's guard for five rounds without getting submitted or cut open by elbows? We saw how close Marquardt came to finishing the fight via a cut and he is vastly lacking compared Anderson's striking and BJJ skills.
People keep talking about how the guy to beat Anderson has got to be a guy with a good takedowns and ground, but history has proven otherwise. He has fought numerous versions of ground guys and every time we are sold a bill of goods as if this new one is somehow going to be a tougher challenge, when in fact the results are the same. What we have yet to see is Anderson Silva against a good counter-striker, which is why the Vitor Belfort match is so intriguing. Hopefully we will get to see that some time this year.
Until then we will just have to wait and see if Chael can pull off what would no doubt be one of the biggest upsets of all time. Personally I think Chael has about a %10 chance of winning this fight. What do you think?
