This season's saddest bowl game is....

You would think that they would have at least a shred of pride left and wait until after the Pac-12 Championship game to apply for a waiver. Its like they expect to lose or something.

Conquest Chronicles Neuheisel: Defiant to his last day

There are quite a few quotes from the L.A. Times this morning that can only be described as delusional and sad coming from the soon to be former ucla head coach Rick Neuheisel.  Just when I think that he can't possibly try to spin another loss to USC into the positive, he continues to shock me with his poor attempts at misdirection and complete lack of pride and humility.

Here are a few of his quotes:

When asked about his feelings about the USC team wearing T-Shirts saying "South Division Champions."

Neuheisel said, "What they choose to do in their program is their choice. I have a great deal of respect for [USC Athletic Director] Pat Haden and [Coach] Lane Kiffin. The facts are they were not [champions]."

As to whether he would allow his players to wear such shirts if roles were reversed, Neuheisel said, "That's hypothetical. I don't have to answer it."

Stab

For bruins that think the USC Drum Major intentionally stabs the u¢la logo. Here is the proof that he in fact doesn't. I find your deep offense to be deeply hilarious. From the 2008 USC u¢la game.

Fulmer Cup 2011

The Fulmer Cup has a new king. Auburn scored an unheard of 80 points this offseason with 5 of their players arrested for robbery. To put this perspective, the previous all time leader was Florida with 52 points from 2006-2010. The previous single season point total was 28 points from Alabama. Auburn has truly set themselves apart from the rest of the pack with this whopping 80 points in one season. Congratz to them.

So far the Pac 10 Fulmer Cup champ continues to be Washington State. The Cougars have scored a respectable 13 points so far, but clearly no one has a shot of beating Auburn this season.

Here are the Fulmer Cup overall point totals for the Pac-10 since the cup's founding (2006-present)

1. Washington State- 38 points
2. Oregon State -21 points
3. u¢la bruins -19 points
4. Oregon Ducks- 18 points
5. Washington Huskies- 10 points
6. Arizona Wildcats- 9 points
7. Cal Bears- 8 points
8. USC- 4 points
9. Arizona State Sun Devils- 3 points
10. Stanford Cardinal- 0 points

For reference here are the overall scores for Utah and Colorado:

Colorado Buffaloes- 24 points
Utah Utes- 11 points

OSU players pledge to return for senior year

All 5 of the "to be suspended in 2011" Buckeyes had to pledge to Jim Tressell that they would return for their senior seasons and serve their suspensions before Tressell would allow them to play in the Sugar Bowl.

On one hand, hats off to Tressell for forcing these guys into a non-binding agreement to return for their punishment. We will see if it holds up with NFL millions on the line.

On the other hand, wow this turned out to be a win-win situation for Tressell. He used the Sugar Bowl to ensure that none of the 5 would turn pro. Seems like a bit of blackmail. He gets to have his cake in the Sugar Bowl, and he has all of those players back in 2011 after 5 games.

I will still be shocked if none of the 5 go pro after the bowl game.

A disturbing trend.

It seems like there is a trend that I am not aware of that is gaining more and more followers. It is people showing up to tailgate a football game that have no intention of attending the game. These fans, come more for the free flowing booze and tailgate party scene than the football game.

Yesterday the stabbing that occurred at the Rose Bowl happened about 20 feet away from me. The cops were on top of it pretty quickly, and everyone in the area got to breathe in a little pepper spray. But what was most interesting is that most of the people involved in the fight were not alumni of either school, or game ticket holders. Some probably came to look for a fight. I have some pictures that I took of the aftermath, that I will post later, but they aren't too exciting.

Conquest Chronicles I guess I'm psychic

BUMPED - P

Here is a list from memory of the ucla QB injuries over the last decade.  As you can see, they have only had 1 year with their starter playing in every game.  Maybe this will deter Neuheisel in the future from going with an offense that exposes his QB to a higher chance of suffering a season ending injury.  Prince only lasted 5 games this season.  Poor kid never had a chance.  I hope he gets a better O-Line and a pro-style offense next year for his sake.

ucla @ Texas
After all of the crap that I have throw in the direction of ucla. I have to tip my hat to the bruins after their impressive win at Texas yesterday. I still believe that Neuheisel is a hack, but no matter what you think of this years Longhorns team, you have to give the bruins credit for going down there and kicking butt.

I am surprised at the fact that they have split their first 4 games. I wouldn't have given them a chance at all to have beaten Texas.

Well done bruins.

Here is something that the bruins can be excited about. This guy can totally beat out any Pac-10 juggler in the conference. He currently leads the nation in juggling.

Way back to Jan 16 2010. The talk seems pretty thin now. After the Eagle Bank Bowl win, and Pete Carroll leaving town. Neuheisel was confident that his bruins were now kings of Los Angeles. Now it all seems pretty hollow

Kool-Aid Watch 2010

First two seasons plus two games of third season
Neuheisel
11-16

Dorrell
14-13

Neuheisel can no longer match Dorrell's three year total of 22-15. If the bruins win out, which they won't they will be 21-16. Yet, Dorrell still sucks and Neuheisel rules. How's that Kool-Aid tasting.

The Monopoly isn't over, but the Honeymoon is.

When Rick Neuheisel gave his traditional postgame pep talk to the UCLA football fans from the sidelines Saturday night, I was walking down through the opposite stands, but I stopped to listen, because he sounded so futile and he seemed so alone.

I only heard half of it. The rest was drowned out by boos.

"We will get (booooo). ... We will (booooo). …You can't get any farther down than (booooo). ..."

The legendary charm is wearing thin. The resilient smile is fooling nobody. The few folks who stayed until the end of the Bruins' 35-0 loss to Stanford had seen enough, and could hear no more.

"Stop talking and win a game!" shouted one.

Interesting Interview of Pat Haden this morning.

Dan Patrick asked: Do you think Reggie Bush should return his Heisman?

Pat Haden: "If I were Reggie Bush with Pat Haden's soul, I would say yes."

Dan Patrick: Does he have your soul?

Pat Haden: I don't know Reggie Bush.

Here is the link to the whole interview and Haden & McKay's interview on Mason & Ireland...P

Compliance office denies possible agent access to USC practice. The possible agent's name is Haden McKay.

He says he took his four-year-old son to football practice recently and the compliance officer at the door wouldn't let him in. Only family members of players are allowed.

"So we left and got an ice cream cone," McKay says. "He liked that better, anyway."

Oh, yes. His son's name is Haden.

Salute to Troy

Just heard that players will not be allowed to sign autographs at Salute to Troy as well as visit with boosters.

Its sad that fans will not be able to have as much interaction with the palyers post-sanctions. Evidently the athletic department wants to control any possible temptation from the players lives. Seems like they are fixing something that isn't broken since the boosters had zero blame in what happened at USC.

The Galen Center gets a new sign

The sign is clearly visible from the 110 freeway in both directions, and blows away the Staples Center and Coliseum signs in display quality. It shows all the USC sports events for the week, and advertisements include USC ticket packages, and Galen Center booking info.

Raiders set to release JaMarcus Russell

After 3 seasons with the Raiders, the team is set to release JaMarcus Russell after 3 lackluster seasons with the club. The release is pending approval of Al Davis, and will still cost the team 3 million dollars after they let him go.

I guess Kiffin was right when he told Davis he couldn't win with Russell. Smells like vindication to me.

No respect for Neu from Pete

Q: Hi Scott,

You mentioned a month or so ago that Pete Carroll considered Rick Neuheisel to be a "sham of a coach." Could you explain in more detail what exactly Pete was referring to. Was the statement directed at his coaching ability, or his character?

A: The comment was directed toward his coaching ability. He considered Jim Harbaugh to be a ``real guy,'' because he could coach. He thought Neuheisel was a fraud as a coach.
