Thank you Tim Legler
Thank you Tim Legler. Thank you for once again showing East coast bias. Watching SPORTSCENTER last night, Tim was talking about the Wolves and was asked "Will Kevin win in Minnesota or somewhere else?" Tim answered, "Somewhere else." Would that somewhere be LA or NY? Maybe Miami or Boston? What really started my fit was reading a short article about how "Rubio STILL doesn't want to play for Minnesota." Any guesses on which paper that was? You are correct - the NEW YORK TIMES.
I am so tired of hearing how great NY, Boston, LA, and Miami are for athletes. EVERYBODY should want to play there and if you don't there is something wrong with you. Just to let the coastal people know, there are some very fine teams in the "fly-over zone" of the US - Twins, Cardinals, Packers, Bears, Hornets, Spurs, just to name a few. This coastal bias permeates all the way down to the High school level. When was the last time you saw a Minnesota or Missouri team on the High school basketball showcase?
This is off my original subject, but my perception is that "everybody" would be fine with 10 NBA teams, 10 MLB teams and 8 NFL teams. By "everybody", I mean all those "experts" who can't seem to see the middle of the country, unless it's Texas.
Now, to be fair to Mr. Legler, he did say somethings that we have been saying around here. If Kevin Love is putting up 25 & 15 a night, that is a team that is not winning, but if he's putting up 15 & 17, that team is probably winning. Love is just doing too much if he's scoring 20+ a night. I think we can all agree with that. The problem is Kevin wants to win as much as we want to root for a winner and he is doing whatever he can to at least have a chance to win. That may not be the ideal situation, but until someone comes along that can carry the team ( and I really would like to believe it'll be B-EASY, but IDK), he'll continue to do what he thinks is necessary.
I hope that all of us T'wolves fans are vindicated when Ricky suits up and the Wolves become a power in the western conference. I believe it will happen sooner rather than later. 2013 was what I had figured for a championship. Granted, that was a little homerism on my part, but as a "lifetime" Wolves fan, I will continue to believe. After all, I lived through the Twins in the 70's, the Vikes in the 80's. I will live through this
God bless our middle of the country teams!!
Damien Wilkins is back to work!!
What the heck?!? and some of those peachtree fans are HAPPY they got him!!
Our college team
It used to be said that the best college team could not beat the worst NBA team. I don't know who said it, but it was quoted at me many times during the NCAA tourneys I grew up watching, when I said that so n so could beat KC or Houston. I think this could be our problem. . .
Increase in attendance
Reading todays copy of Sporting News Today I ran across a story on the Wolves and thier success with the 1/2 price season ticket sales. They "surpassed last years paltry 825 total for new full season-ticket sales and expects to sell more than 1000 new full-season packages" at end of business today. Not only that, but the average attendance is up this year from last by 3.7% to 14,785, good for 25th out of 30. I can't believe that there are four teams drawing worse than the Wolves. I would have to say that Kahn is at least getting people to buy into the Wolves, even temporarily.
Cole Aldrich Interview
I know that there has been some talk about bring the kid back to his hometown team earlier this year and now that the Rubio thing has been settled, I thought we'd take a look at some of those players in the up coming draft that the wolves might have a good line on. Here is an interview with Cole from SNT:

Wolves not worst!!
For all those who think the Wolves are the worst team in the league going into the season, check this out!!
Kahn not done
This from the AP writer in Minneapolis -
“I felt very strongly that it would be good for the team, for our organization, if we had another high pick,” Kahn said Wednesday. “I felt that this was the time to do it with these two players.”
Getting that fifth pick could give the Timberwolves, who are still rebuilding after trading Kevin Garnett(notes) to Boston two years ago, enough assets to trade up even higher in the draft. Multiple scenarios were being discussed, and the Wolves could end up sticking with the fifth and sixth picks, Kahn said. But one thing was certain.
“We will not trade 5 and 6 for 2,” Kahn said. “We will not do that, under no circumstances.”
Kahn is trying to reshape a team that has not made the playoffs since 2004. Coincidentally, that was the last time he was employed in the NBA, with the Indiana Pacers. He left the Pacers and served as owner of several NBDL teams before Minnesota owner Glen Taylor handed him the keys to Target Center, and there is no doubting who is driving the car now.
“This is only the first period of activity that I anticipate over the next 15-16 months,” Kahn said. “No matter what occurs (in the draft Thursday), training camp doesn’t start Friday. We have all summer to continue to explore some opportunities and to address the roster. And three months is a long time.”
These are the Timberwolves, however, so of course all the excitement generated comes with a caveat. Most analysts and experts view the 2009 draft as one of the weakest in recent memory, with even the hottest prospects showing warts.
Kahn doesn’t buy that evaluation.
“I think some of the players, especially at the top of the draft in the vicinity we’re at, could be really helpful,” he said.
GO KAHN!!
