A Christmas Wish?

Since the Christmas season is upon us and during the holiday season miracles and wishes are common I decided to pose a hypothetical questions to all the Steelers fans. (And probably some of the Raven’s fans that are still lurking around here at BTSC).

The question is simple and easy, if you could have one offensive and one defensive player from any team in the NFL this year and place them on the Current Steelers roster to help with our Playoff (and hopefully super bowl run), who would you pick?

On the defensive side I have thought long and hard and every time I think of a possible player (ie: Ed Reed, Albert Haynesworth, Justin Tuck) I get sad about replacing a player like Ryan Clark, Ed Reed, and Aaron Smith. But I would say the best possible upgrade on our defense would be at the cornerback position. Having said that I think the best player at that position this year is Nnamdi Asomugha, his stats are not that gaudy but he is the definition of a shutdown corner and every team has just decided they won’t throw to his side, and on a team as bad a the Raiders this is possible. If you put him on a defense like the Steelers I think his stats would be ridiculous.

On the offensive side of the ball I think there are a lot of needs, I would tend to think a stud left tackle would be of great importance, but would the addition of one lineman actually make a big difference on the offensive line as a whole? I think it might and perhaps it would spare Big Ben from a few sacks a game. So perhaps Walter Jones, or Joe Thomas would be the player that makes a huge impact in the playoffs. But if I had to pick one player for our run I would like to see Calvin Johnson added to the roster. Sorry Nate “the great” Washington, but Calvin Johnson plays on piss poor team and still has Over 1000 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns on a team where he is the only offensive weapon. Going down the stretch having a player that we can throw a jump ball in the end zone would make it a lot easier for us to avoid being stuffed on 4th and 1 type situations.

There are hundreds of players we could pick up with this once in a lifetime Christmas miracle, who would you add?

Ryan Clark to pay a fine that ends with a lot of 0's

Per the Boston Herald and Profootballtalk Ryan Clark will be fined ZERO dollars.

Can you believe that, I for sure thought he would get a decent fine of at least 10,000 to 15,000 dolllars. The one thing that really gets me though is Mike Pereria has this to say...“A lot of people think it’s a foul to leave your feet,” Pereira said. “Launching is not a foul. There is nothing in the rulebook that states that at all. It’s a misconception people have."

A misconception people have, we were told that was the reason for the penatly during the game. I am so stunned by the lack of consistency by the NFL this year.

How difficult and expensive would it be to pay for Full-Time NFL ref's?

In a multi-billion dollar organization how hard would it be to have these ref's training all season long using simulators and things to make sure that they are on top of their game rather than going back to selling real estate and being dentists for their full time job.

Where has the rhythm that was displayed yesterday between Santonio and Ben been all year? Those two really looked like they were reading from the same sheet of music yesterday. Perhaps the fact that Ben practiced all week and the two of them also got increased reps really paid big dividends. I think it probably showed us how important it is for Ben to get a full practice week. Or perhaps maybe Santonio put down the blunts and has started focusing on football again, who knows?

I can’t be alone of this one anymore; a few weeks ago I mentioned in a fanpost the issue of high snaps whenever we go into shotgun formation. I know I am not crazy as I had about 10 people watching the game with me and they all agreed. While I think Hartwig has been a major improvement at the center position he needs to work on his shotgun snap. Ben constantly has to reach or jump to get the snap in the shotgun formation. While it usually only creates a millisecond of time lost, it seems to me that the last thing Ben needs is less time to be able to get rid of the ball.

Ben deserves a lot of credit for a gutsy and mistake free day, but I still think he is shell shocked, and not playing as well as we will need him to play if we are actually going to make a run at things.

How well has Matt Spaeth been in relief of Heath Miller? While he has rarely been able to get yards after the catch, he has dropped very few balls in the past two games and has made quite a few clutch plays. When we get a healthy Miller back could we please start using him in the game plan like we use Spaeth?

I don’t know about you, but Willie Parker looked healthy as could be yesterday and he really ran with force and power. Very Impressive.

We definitely have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball, but after watching the Ravens defense get run over by the Giants I think that our defense can keep us in ANY game, and if our offense can start to keep pace we could be a dangerous team come December.

How many out there in the BTSC nation are attending the Monday Night Game this week?

Anyone know of any big Steeler tailgates that are going on outside the stadium?

The weather for Monday looks nice, but I'm sure it will be cold in the stadium.- Monday's forcast is a mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the low 40s.

Hopefully my fist Steelers game since a kid will turn out to be a Victory.

Uh-Oh everyone. This could be bad. I think we can live without Polamalu or Clark and still manage to win a few games here and there; but without either? My God I think we are in a whole heap of trouble! Do the Steelers really have a chance with Troy and Ryan sitting on the sidelines?

Also if Troy is out, would the team perhaps rush Ryan Clark back even though he may not be ready?

Just wanted to sprinkle some horrible rotten news on your Halloween/Friday evening.

Hopefully Troy and Ryan will be in full effect.

Random Thought/ Redskins Game

Ok, here is something that perhaps I was just imagining but did anyone notice that just about every snap from Hartwig to Ben in the Shotgun was high and slightly over his head. While this isn't a huge deal from the standpoint of him not being able to catch the ball, it did waste seconds everytime Ben would drop back. With the line barley hangning on, and Ben having a hard time finding his reads it seems to be that Hartwig needs to get on the stick in that area.

Also, It would probably make more sense to post this on the Redskins board, but any advice on Parking at a Redskins game this Monday Night. I am looking for parking passes on E-bay/Studhub and they are quite expensive. I did see that they have some Cash Parking lots, do those usually get sold out or is their plenty of room?

The good new the NFL has just started a similar game called “you call the shot”.

The game is simple but fun, you call whether the play will be run, pass, short, long, etc.

Rooney Brothers Reject Dan too...

According to Profootballtalk.com The Rooney Brothers not named Dan have rejected an offer from Dan Rooney to buy out the rest of the family.

So what now? With the Rooney Brothers rejecting the offer yesterday from Stanley Druckenmiller (who actually withdrew his bid), and now the brothers rejecting the offer from of Dan Rooney and his Son Art II, where do the Steelers turn to for financing?

It does seem like quite a favor the NFL is extending to the Steelers by not setting deadlines on when they need to either stop their gambling interests or have new ownership that follows the NFL ownership guidelines. I believe in light of the recent events of the Rooney brothers that the NFL will have no other options than to force the Steelers to find new ownership or remove themselves from their gambling interests in a timely manner, possibly setting deadlines that will result in either financial punishment.

Would you approve of this situation if it was happening to another team? I think I would be lenient because the NFL is a league that owes a lot to its founders and I believe teams like the Steelers have helped establish what is currently the most popular sport in the United States.

I wish I could find the video but last night I was watching "Welcome to the NFL, Rookie, Volume I." Rashard Mendenhall was one of the 5 featured players during the show. In the show they detailed some of his fumbling issues and even showed the players trying to help resolve his issue.

But the best part of the show for me was that for some reason nobody on the Steelers staff or Rashard Mendenhall himself can figure out why Mike Tomlin has developed the nickname of "Delicious" for Rashard Mendenhall.

During the show you can here Tomlin say things like, "Where the hell is delicious," or "Nice Run delicious". It had me so laughing hard.

Anybody have any ideas of why Rashard is nicknamed Delicious?

And what other creative nicknames can we give this beast?
