i just happened to click on my sbnation and noticed i had commented 2095 times on mmamania.com since the platform move in 2009. i think that equates to aproximately 100 comments a month, 3 comments per day, 5 min per comment.........equals 10475 minutes, 174.6 hours, which is over a week of my life i will never get back.........cheers you pack of bastards........

There are certain fights, which, while they are in progress stir many primordial emotions, i mean, everyone has their favourite fighters that they want to do well, right?

On this certain UFC fight card, this fight was secondary to the festivities that were about to follow, an appetiser to the main course, a hand held sparkler to the military grade WMD main event that was to follow.

UFC 57 was the final installment of the Liddell Coture trilogy, a trilogy series, like the Ultimate Fighter, that had helped ignite a flame in the casual fan, and wet their appetite for blood lust, and the new "cool", and with regulars such as Pamela Anderson and Jamie Priestly cage side for every event, who could blame them.........

Enter my favourite fighter of the time.......... Joe "Diesel" Riggs, a bleached adonis, emblazoned in green tattoo's, a man who cut from over 300lb to make 170lb, that had been tearing the division a new hole, with his all action style, and never say die attitude, a future champion with out a doubt, versus a skinny scrub from the mean streets of Stockton, California, that did not even have a fighting "nick" name, and sported a scowl that the angriest kid on the planet would be jealous of. A long unremarkable character, with no muscles, that actually weighed what he fought at, (170lb), and not what "Diesel" fought at (210lb),

Only one winner guys.........................................

Correct, "Diesel" would win, but only after being battered about the octagon for three rounds, by my new favourite fighter, Mr Nick Diaz, one of the judges actually scored the fight 30-27, even though St Nick cleaned Joe Riggs out completely in the first round, with absolute dominance in every department,  BUT  , this was the age before attacking from your back was recognised, i mean jesus, watch the fucking fight...............calm, calm, calm, ...count to 10.....

Anyways, the rest is history, they went to the hospital after the fight..............

And an incident "occurred" (What i think happened is that a terminator turned up looking for John Connor, and ran into Nick Diaz, and got his arse well and truely kicked all over Las Vegas, and accidentally beat up Joe Riggs in the process, and thats what got St Nick kicked out of the UFC)

And Nick got kicked out of the UFC.....

(Personally, i think Nick is the reason the UFC bought SF, but hey, wtf do i know, its not like i told scott coker to have a heavyweight grand prix or anything, and got nothing in return, fat bastard).

Dear Mr Coker, i am no promotional genius like yourself, i am just a fan. But can i tell you what i want please.

I want a Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, with a minimum of eight competitors, including Fedor, Overeem, Barnett, Werdum, Big foot, Rodgers, AA, and Gonzaga, if there are any fighters i've missed just add them anyways and sort it out. And if you really want to push the boat out get your light heavy weights involved aswell.

I would honestly pay for this, and i pay for fuck all, i even steal from b&q every time i go there, but thats just because they charge too much....but i will pay for this tournament, you can even come to my house and make sure i am not watching it on the internet.......

Being from England, i get to see intelligent, funny and witty, programs, events, and situations, from all over the world, and i think i understand humour as well as anyone, and i also understand that you people from outside of the civilised world, eg, canada, america, france etc, etc, don't quite get it sometimes.....................and do take a really great offence to the most innocent of comments, and even the word "gay", really upsets....

As a closet homosexual myself, who enjoys collecting dolls and likes horse riding, i was just interested to see what the other readers of this blog thought about the constant speculation that a certain Champion is not only Canadian, but also gay, ( yes i know Canadian and Champion are very rarely used in the same sentence, almost as rarely as Canadian and gay are not.)

But does it make a difference if a fighter is of a different "sexual gym", and uses his grappling skills for other "extra curricular" activities, and for creating "pleasure" rather than "pain"? (some say that is the reason he has gotten so damn good).

Personally i don't think it makes a difference, all fighters are proffesionals, and people like koscheck need not worry anyways, (ugly,american fraggle), but if i was John Hathaway, (pretty, Robert Pattinsonesque), i would really be learning escapes from back mount, and north south positions incase i got a title shot and was exposed in those positions on national television by an alleged chutney ferret homosexual.

Not that any of this matters of course, he is not the first, as we all know Matt and his brother used to go behind the barn and pound each other for hours.

 Fresh off ANS's and my previous post, what happens next?????

 If Dan Hardy manages the unthinkable on Saturday and beats GSP, then the Welterweight division is a vibrant throng of exciting matchups and trash talking verbal assaults, the rivalry between RoughHouse, AKA and the rest , The possibilities are endless......

 But if (or when, in most peoples opinions) GSP wins, what then?????

 Where does the 170lb division go next?????

 The Welterweight division is pretty much like the light and middle divisions, where a dominant champion reigns supreme, and is practically invincible.

 And in my opinion, this is what we do not need as fans, Bj beats everyone, GSP beats everyone, and Anderson beats everyone. (Full Stop). 

 The amount of credible opponents are becoming few and far between, and as many of you argue, this is the only reason Hardy has got his title fight.

 Are we destined for years of re-matches, as previous contenders like Fitch and Alves are simply the next best, and are the only worthy opponents, or are we destined to see fighters like Hardy, that certain commentators say do not deserve a shot, get the chance, because they are something different, the only other viable opponents, and give us something else to discuss???

 Or will the UFC brass feel the stagnation and make things happen?

 As we are entering a new era in mma, an era where all fighters have to be multi disciplined, creative, have unrivaled conditioning, and be completely dedicated. My view is that a new breed of athlete is emerging.

Gone are the days where a single disciplined athlete can rule the roost, the term "well rounded" has never been more prevalant than it is today, the UFC currently has multi skilled disciplinarian's as Lyoto, BJ, Georges, and Anderson,(in no particular order),and the simple unobliterated raw power of Brock and Carwin, (did i say multi disciplined???)........ Strikeforce has Gegard, Diaz and Fedor, WEC has Aldo etc etc, the list is endless.....

You could argue that mma has already entered the era of the super athlete, (which it obviously has, so its not an argument), but the thought behind this post is to distinguish between the current, and the future.

And apart from the above contradictions, who will, and who won't be the next big thing...........

The heavyweight division is the most interesting, because all of the other weight classes are ruled by technique, skill and athleticism, but the heavyweight division is ruled by pure power, i'm sure as alot of you would agree, that Brock, Carwin or Duffee, wouldn't do as well if they were competing against guys there own size, for example, can anyone see Brock competing with a Spider that cut 20lb to make 265......

Anyways, thats besides the point........

Who is the next big thing in mma? Who is flying under the radar? Who will blow our minds?

As the weekend approaches, alot of gyms and clubs are focusing on tournaments and events, weather it be your local karate, tae kwon do, or jui jitsu tourney, a boxing or mma event, or even a fishing bonanza.

This question has probably been asked and re asked about a thousand times, and probably very recently, but 'm not letting that discourage me.

 Every sport has its iconic moments, Ali beating Foreman, Douglas beating Tyson, Usain "lightening" Bolt destroying every one in his path, Dan Marino appearing in "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective", and Michael Shumacher appearing to be the stig onTop Gear.

But on a serious note, alot of my favourite moments include Scott Smith and Minitauro,and alot of their unbelievable "Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat", or "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" for their opponents, moments.

There are many moments that make us utter "what the f**k", but some standout more than others.

My personal favourites include,:

Bobb Sapp against Mintauro, for various reasons.

Fedor against Kevin Randleman, for obvious reasons.

And any Scott Smith fight where he has had his ass whooped and knocked his opponent "the f**k out" for also obvious reasons.

And also a noteable mention to Robbie Lawler for his fight against Melvin.

But, my personal favourite is when Mr Anderson Silva was crab clawed.

You may say that these are not "Iconic moments", but they are to me.

this may seem pretty pointless, but i've just been watching bones jones again, after ans's post and the guy has the longest forearms and legs i've ever seen.

i suppose it depends on who measures the leg reach, if edith did it i wouldn't complain, especially cos i can't do the splits, and she'd have to manouver the tape around, lol...

We have all seen the hullaballoo of James Toneys courtship and entrance into the world of mixed martial arts, and as much as a great pugalist that he is, and has been, i feel that he is entering the water at too deep a level to allow him to swim with the sharks of the mma world.

It has been rumored that his first fight will be with Kimbo, but from reading the twitter posts from various fighters, there is not a short list of fighters willing to welcome Mr Toney to the blood stained canvas floor of the eight sided boxing ring, but a very long one.

Randy has been extraordinaraly voiceiferous about his desire to fight Toney, which is a fight i would personally like to see, along with Toney's desire to fight Chuck and Brock.

Which also beckons another question, when, if it hasn't already, will mma overtake boxing in the fans eyes? I, like many of you, are already sold on the fact that mma is the way forward, and the desire of boxers to "transition" into mma because "it is the next logical step", spells many hurt limbs, and many cut foreheads, and the ego that these guys have just spells pain for themselves.

But the one undoubted deciding factor is money.......

When(not if, imo) will mma overtake boxing in the revenue department?

When can you see two fighters earning $1 million or more?

David Haye and Ricky Hatton have already stated that they think it is the way forward, but are making way too much money boxing to even think about it, but could do it as a personal challenge, and KJ Noons has also diced between the two disciplines to make money.

So when will the situation change?

mma has already got boxing shitting its pants, but when will it eat it up and spit it out? 

with all of the hullaballoo lately, about fighters wishing that other fighters would die of aids, that they would be the first death in the octagon, and that "ok, my wife was a porn star, but she isn't now", comments flying about making mincemeat out of our brains, the question that i'm asking, is what is acceptable and what is not, and, when is the line crossed???

Fresh from the questionable breath of Dr Evil's potty mouth, (see White: Dana) ,,,, was the statement that "season 10 of TUF was the best yet"......

Or will season 11 of the ultimate fighter just not deliver the goods??? will it be the best yet??? or are new ideas and concepts required to maintain its tenure? has the reality rollercoaster ridden its last word beginning with r ("Repeats" on spike and espn)  for the ultimate fighter?

 As so many of you have already stated, this could be one of the most one sided welterweight title fights ever to be contested over, should Georges even bother to take his gui and head band off? Do the only ways he will lose, coincide with a freak injury, or a well timed fully hairsprayed mohawk to the vision sensors?

Far from me to insinuate that mike goldberg doesn't have the greatest grasp of the finer points of the guillotine, and the goo gaa gaa of the gogogogogoplada, and may seem like a complete idiot. As we all know, some of the "most inspirational", and "hair stand's up on the back of your neck" moments during an event, can occur during the anticipation of your favourite fighters entarance, whoever it may be, but when the entrance music comes on we go mental, weather it be wanderlei's trance, chucks theme, or marcus davis house of pain, they all have the affect of getting our adrenaline pumping like crazy.

All of you at some point must have thought of it, and may have probably done it at some point.(your liars if you say you haven't). 

The simple question is what would your entrance music be? and what would you recomend for your fellow maniacs...... is going to be a quiet month so lets have some fun..................... 

My personal favourite for myself would be "highway to hell" by ac/dc, (i thought i'd get in first, but duplication is allowed) , and for "he who must not be named" (you know who i'm talking about) i would recommend "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks, or "highway to hell".........................have fun...........
