MMAmania.com MMAmania vs Bloody Elbow: Event 3 wrap up.

Courtesy of Drew... I just copied from BE as per request.

Leben-koing-silva_ufc-132_medium

UFC 132 was the event that marked the half way point of our season. It was an event where leadership was questioned, and an event where troops were united and finally in full force. An event that saw much pre-event trolling involving threads of green and images of deceased felines, unavoidably culminating in the both popular and despised "banhammer" rearing its ugly head. We ask that a moment of silence be taken for brothers A.K. and Dragon.

This event seemed to bring the best and worst out of both factions giving the evening a certain anticipation that maybe, just maybe the war was upon us. Even with the rallying cry of their leader ensuring all 10 members of Team Elbows picks to be made the results stayed the same with Team Mania securing their 3rd victory in a row winning by their smallest margin to date and staying undefeated for the season.

Make no mistake about it, Team Elbow has officially left the "we don't care" mantra to their lurkers. The pre-event fanpost seemed to undoubtedly guarantee at least attendance. The efforts to distract showed that Team Elbow was game to turn things around, and give credit where credit is due, Team Elbow placed 1st and 2nd in this event while not placing higher than 3rd in the previous 2. It just simply was not enough. Mania stayed both consistent and strong with stellar performances from Ulf_Murphy, NNR, and Two_Words to round out the top 5. Sealing their fate Team Elbow finished in 3 out of the last 4 spots beating only our wild card Jay who has stated is vying for 1st or bust to win his money back in our own pool as he is out of the running for a top 3 spot.

It will be interesting to see how Jay and other maniacs strategy in our own pool affects their performance in this one as we round out the final 3 events. Is Jay just making excuses for a poor showing or is this a legitimate strategy that could have game changing consequences in the Battle to end the War? Will Team Elbow completely throw in the towel after suffering such a humiliating defeat, or will they become stronger then ever after coming so close to tasting victory? Any maniacs feel their 146 pt lead is reason for an early celebration or is the wounded Team Elbow more dangerous than ever? Can Team Elbow win at least one event in the season? As always please check my math grammar, the results of this event are below with both the 1st and 2nd event totals after the jump. Hope you all had a great 4th of July!

MMAmania.com UFC 122 LIVE ON ROGERS IN CANADA (3PM Eastern Time) FREE!

Images_medium

Hi Guys. If you are in Canada and have a Rogers digital box, you can watch UFC 122 at 3PM Eastern time live for free.

It will air on Rogers Sportsnet One on channel 99 (at least that's what it is here in Toronto) and even though it will be a premium pay channel, EVERYONE ON ROGERS HAS A FREE PREVIEW OF IT CURRENTLY, because it just started.

I can't stand watching UFC in tape delay, so this is great. I hope I could help some of you other Canadians to avoid having to watch it on Spike on delay.

MMAmania.com Best Fight EVER (Video)

Ok guys, I did not expect my joke post about Kimbrock Slesnar today to get recced. This thread however I want to ask you guys wholeheartedly to recommend. This fight is my personal favorite fight of the year sofar and one of the most entertaining I have ever seen. I would like everyone to see that fight, so lets get 5 votes for that.

These 2 warriors display absolutely fantastic stand up, stamina and heart. This is a K1 contest that happened a week ago between Mike Zambidis and Chahid Oulad El Hadj. Enjoy!

MMAmania.com Brock = Kimbo?

I found this in the comments on mmajunkie and thought it was pretty funny. It is obviously ridiculous to compare the two, but I am sure some of you guys will enjoy it. Differences between them are further down. Full credit goes to a random dude on junkie. Here goes:

Both have more in common than you think.....Let's take a look.......

Images_medium

***********************************************************************************

Both had ridiculously huge hype trains that ended up getting embarrassingly wrecked and derailed.

Both were put on high pedestals way before they should have been.

Both looked promising early on.....[Kimbo beat up Mercer, Tank, and Cantrell.... Brock beat up Kim, Herring, Mir-II, and Couture.]

Both guys got their asses completely kicked by men who were roughly 25 pounds lighter....

Both guys were wearing beards at the time they were destroyed.

Both were destroyed in the first round.

Both Brock and Kimbo were also nearly beaten in matches that could have been stopped, but somehow managed to secure wins..[Kimbo nearly lost to Thompson, and Brock nearly lost to Carwin.]

Both guys had training camps the didn't really work....[Bas Rutten was unable to properly prepare Kimbo for MMA... The Deathclutch folks were unable to properly prepare Brock for MMA.]

Both guys are hard headed, stubborn, and are difficult to work with/train with.

Both have questionable chins.

Both are clueless and look helpless when under pressure and tend to wilt once they are out of their elements/comfort zones.

Both have fought for the UFC.

Both have heavily muscled upper bodies, and under sized lower legs.

Both have been rumored to bench-press in the 480 pound range.

Both dabbled in football.

Both worked in the entertainment industry before entering into MMA...[Kimbo worked in porn/security guard, Brock worked in the WWE.]

Both are one-dimensional type fighters.

Both are/were overrated.

Both are big draws and sell lots of PPV's.

Both are/were the cash cows of their promotional companies.

Both started into MMA very late in life.

Both have enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

Both seemed rougher & tougher outside of professional MMA....[Kimbo beat up people in his backyard using bareknuckles].....{Brock f-5'd the Bigshow, did shooting start presses landing on his head, and hit people in the head with steel chairs}.

Kimbo has quit MMA and is irrelevant.....After another loss, Brock will also likely quit MMA and become irrelevant.

Both of their promoters were seen in deep despair after they had gotten wrecked....[Jared Shaw was seen jumping up and down and freaking out as Kimbo was getting beatdown on national TV........Dana White was seen in the cage looking like he was sick and about to throw up his dinner, shortly after Brock got his ass whipped by Velasquez at UFC 121.

***********************************************************************************

Ok, ok..just to be fair...A FEW THINGS THAT ARE DIFFERENT ABOUT THEM

Kimbo is Black, Brock is white.

Brock is 6'3", Kimbo is 6'2"

Kimbo shaves his chest hair..Brock doesn't have any chest hair.

Kimbo has no ground game...Brock has no standup game.

Brock has hair on the top of his head....Kimbo has hair on the sides of his head.

Kimbo has a bigger beard.

Brock has bigger hands.

Brock weighs in at 265...Kimbo weighs in at 230

Kimbo was on the TUF show.....Brock was in WWE shows.

Kimbo got beat up by a kid with pink hair.....Brock got beat up by a kid with short black hair.

When Brock got his ass kicked, he was bleeding.....Kimbo just got beat up.

Brock stumbled across the octagon from a glancing uppercut.....Kimbo went straight down from a jab.

Brock did an awesome "720" spin during his beating......Kimbo did nothing awesome during his beating.

Kimbo beat up bums in the street.....Brock threw guys around in the NCAA wrestling meets.....[although Neither guy really transitioned into MMA very well as complete fighters regardless of what their prior credentials may have been].

MMAmania.com Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos ODDS ARE OUT!

As we all know Cain Velasquez' first title defense will be against Brazilian top HW Junior Dos Santos. Here are a couple gifs to demonstrate what we might be in for...

246jdoj_jpg_medium

2lxa15w_medium

The odds for the mega-fight are out on multiple online sports betting sites. Here are the lines:

BookMakerBodogSportsbook
Cain Velasquez -205 -225 -200
Junior Dos Santos +165 +185 +160

As we can see Cain is about a a 2:1 favorite. I believe the line is pretty accurate. I give JDS the advantage on the feet, especially in the power department. But in my opinion Cain can will be able to take Junior down if necessary and with JDS' ground game being an unknown at this point, he has to be favored.

Also I re-watched the JDS-Nelson fight last night and it did really seem like JDS has some cardio issues. With that said I will be rooting for the Brazilian to shake up the HW picture even further after Cain did past Saturday.

For people who don't gamble or know how to read the odds:

This means if you bet 100$ on Cain, you win 50$ at the current best odds (Get a total of 150$ back)

If you bet 100$ on Junior, you win 185$ at the current best odds (Get a total of 285$ back)

MMAmania.com Paul 'Semtex' Daley signs multi-fight contract with Strikeforce

Mma_daleyp_576_medium

The inevitable has come to fruition.

Paul Daley has signed on to fight for Scott Coker and the boys over at Strikeforce. As we originally reported back on Aug. 2, "Semtex" has agreed to a multi-fight deal and today the promotion has confirmed with MMAmania.com his addition to their growing welterweight roster.

The heavy-handed Brit has of course been looking for a new, more permanent home ever since delivering the cheap shot heard 'round the fighting world to Josh Koscheck following their UFC 113 bout where "Kos" took home a unanimous decision win and earned himself a shot at Georges St. Pierre's 170-pound title later this year.

UFC President Dana White kicked him to the curb, essentially banning the welterweight striker from the Octagon for life, but Strikeforce apparently has no qualms in employing the controversial slugger.

MMAmania.com UFC Quick Quote: Jon 'Bones' Jones vs Stupid 'Slow' White Boy?

Mma_silva_griffin033_576_medium

"I hope I am not fighting Jon 'Bones' Jones. I might be. F*ck it; if I am, I am. I will do it, but I am not even training right now. That is a bad dude. That dude will whoop my ass. F*ck it. What is the worst, I mean, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. It should not be worse than that, right? Every fight I go into, no matter what happens, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. Because that sh*t was a year ago and literally every day people ask me something about that - 'What happened? What happened?' [Anderson punched me in the chin] Repeatedly and I was very confused. I tried to punch him and he literally moved his head out of the way and looked at me like I was stupid for doing it. He looked at me like - 'Why would you do such a stupid thing?' He looked at me like - 'Oh, did you really think you were going to hit me? What a stupid thing to think, you slow slow white boy.' Then he punched me. I felt embarrassed for even trying to punch him."

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin tells Jason Ellis (via Bloody Elbow) that facing Jon Jones is like fighting Anderson Silva in that he'll probably get his ass kicked inside of three minutes. Is "Bones" going to be paired up with Griffin in late 2010/early 2011? Or is the new best-selling author too busy selling books to see the inside of a cage in time to throw down with the future star?

I just came across this great video on Youtube that made me chuckle for the whole runtime. The people behind the camera shout out who to impersonate, and Anderson tries his best performance for each of them. I hope you enjoy it Maniacs.

Everyone knew this was coming! And I figured I would take this chance to write my first fanpost about it.
