Screens
Have you seen the Dolphins use screens this year? Maybe Im wrong but I havent seen any lately at all. You saw the Giants use them on us. The Eagles use them to McCoy on Sunday night. I dont under stand why Bush doesnt get any.

Palmer to the Phins... UPDATED
Ok so we all know that the Bengals will not trade of release Palmer because they do not want to reward him with his request. They've already stated that 2011 is a rebuilding year for them which practically means that if they suck, its ok. Perhaps also an indicator that it can potentially happen? Everyone or every team has a price, including the Bengals. So my question is, how much should the Bengals be rewarded for trading Palmer?

Ronnie Tribute
You would think the Dolphins top stars were on the Madden cover this year. We have lost CP10, Will Allen, and now Ronnie. Losing our top performer really makes this season that much harder on us and the team. Ronnie Brown is probably one of the most feared H-backs in the NFL right now. Unfortionately for us, injuries keep holding him back from having a stellar season. Ronnie, this one's for you.
Brett Farve and the Packers
With the Phinsider being a football blog, I wanted to get your guys take on something. This is an interesting situation. How would you guys feel if Henne spends 10+ years with the Dolphins, takes us to multiple playoffs and wins us a superbowl and somehow ends up with the Jets? Would you boo him when he comes into Landshark or applaud for him out of respect for his legacy and what he did for our team. This is obviously stemming from Brett Farve going back to Lambeau Field to face his former team this Sunday. I for one want Brett to win this game. A standing ovation is due to him as he was forced to leave. Farve should retire as a Packer, as Zack Thomas should have as a Dolphin. Its a similar situation to the one where CP10 won vs the Jets. I dont remember what ovation CP10 got when he went back. What would you guys do?
Teddy Ginn WILL be BETTER than Randy Moss
The reasons after the jump.
For all of the Henne & Ginn haters pay attention
For all of the doubters out there, here is the Henne to Ginn TD play action pass. I was want to touch base on a couple of things. The list goes in order shown in the video.
1) It looked like Fort Knox around Henne. Our O-line was toying with the Jets
2) Look at Henne's footwork. It's definately improved. He waited for the exact moment to throw the ball.
3) The throw was simply amazing. There was a CP10 interview where he was talking about not only being able to throw the ball, but being able to "drop it" to the receiver. When its first thrown, it looks like a rainbow, then it dropped like a missile.
4) Some people say that Ginn doesn't catch with his hands but with his chest. If Ginn had D cups and a low cut shirt, he would have caught it with his cleavage. IMO, perfect pass. His second level speed was also AMAZING. He would have keep going and burning Revis if the endzone wasn't right there.
5) Look at Ginn's route running and separation against arguably a top 3 corner in the league Revis. Do we really want to trade this guy? He's finally getting it. Or maybe he finally got it (A QB with an arm).
In my last post, I broke down the Saints offensively and defensively. Great read by the way lol. There was a reply where a Saints fan came to our site and said that they are better, yadda yadda yadda. But what caught my attention was that he said that this team was 3 years in the making. It reminded me of us right now. This is our second year, lets see what happens next year. If the Saints deserve it this year, so be it, but they can take a loss on sunday and continue their winning streak haha. Let's stay possitive, next year were headed to the superbowl.

Breaking down the Saints!!!
Yeah its me again. So something I just noticed is that the Phins and the Saints have both controlled the time of possesion in every game they've played (Atlanta actually beat us by a minute). A team with a great quarterback and weapons has to be contained by not allowing them to get on the field. Going back to the Colts game, we worked them offensively. Pounded the rock, killed the clock. Our twist to this game, Henne. The running game opens up the passing game. We'll get the R&R express going, and unleash Henne on 3rd and longs. Here's the problem, the Saints have allowed on average 83.4 yards a game to the run. Our "$150,000,000" O-line has to show up. If it doesnt, we're as good as done. O-line not geling = no run game = Henne's face meeting dirt. DE's are not really a problem and it doesnt worry me too much. If Mathis and Freeny can't touch Henne, they can contain Grant who has 4 sacks for the year.
The only QB's that have passed over 200 yards on New Orleans were McNabb and Eli. Manning. Experienced vets but threw 4 picks collectively. The rookies Sanchez and Stafford, both threw 3 picks and under 200 yards. Henne must know where DARREN SHARPER is at ALL TIMES. Is this guy a f'ing stud or what? FYI, he leads the NFL in INT's with 8. Looking at the stats, all the games were lopsided. A lot of passing, not many rushing yards. All but the one versus the Jets. The Jets rushed 132 and passed 112 (Lost by 14). LOL im actually laughing... 2 of those TD's were scored by the defence, a pick six by SHARPER and an endzone fumble recovery. Sanchez lost them that game. Aside from those two mistakes, they had a chance. We lead the NFL in rushing yards. What actually excites me is that Henne has shown to be best out of the play action and is SMART with the football. No rookie mistakes and decisions yet (Lets keep our fingers crossed). New Orleans knows the Wildcat and the rush is coming so is time for Crowder to back up his talk. He said they have "thousands of plays on film" out of the wildcat formation. This is my prediction, THERE WILL BE A NEW WRINKLE TO THE WILDCAT. Change it up, something new, something never seen. All I can tell you is that we are not going to win by puting up 14 points. At the very least, we need 28. The wrinkle will help us accomplish that.
OFFENSIVE KEYS TO VICTORY: Run to have the most time of possesion and keep Brees off the field, pass to keep them on their toes, new Wildcat wrinkle, and stay away from Darren Sharper.
So what do we do in defense? How to we stop the Saints explosive offense? We need to stop their ablility to get 1st downs in the passing game. In the 3 games that they scored 45-48 points, they had almost DOUBLE the amount of 1st downs acquired by the pass compared to the run with an average of 26.3 total. In the 2 games they scored 22-27 points, they had more rushing 1st downs than passing, and average of 19.5 total. He also threw for less than 190 yards. Drew Brees completions and attempts are all very similar per game. Low to mid 20's completed, low to mid 30's attempted. The difference between the high and low scoring games are: containing Shockey inside the 15, containing Colston period (example, Revis held him to 2/33), and keep Brees under 200 passing yards. We need to give Brees constant preassure with two or three guys (Porter, JT and Wake) while protecting the secondary. Gibril Wilson needs to step up over the top. Drew Brees will consistantly throw 20+ yard strikes with YAC and will hand them out to everyone in that offense. Maybe thats because they're 4th in the NFL in rushing yards, but im not worried about that. The running game opens up the passing game. As much as I hate to say this, the Jets defended the Saints better than any this year.
DEFENSIVE KEYS TO VICTORY: Shut down defensive inside the 15, maintain constant preassure to Brees while shuting down Colston(Smith, Davis), cover the mid-field to avoid passing 1st downs, and Gibril Wilson has to play like the Superbowl safety he once was. KEEP THEM UNDER 24 POINTS.
I see our team to be very similar to the Saints. We have a runing game, now we need to pass deep. You can't win games by giving up 40+ points, our defense needs to step up. **cough** ROMEO CRENNEL **cough**

Answer to our defensive struggles inside!!! plus bye week thoughts.
So im at work today minding my own business when I see Lex Hilliard. I walk over to him and say, "Hey Lex, congrats on making the team. Good luck this season!" Lex expressed his gratitude and we talked about the Phins finally coming together. He seemed surprised I recognized him because nobody else did. The "average" dolphin fan would not recognize thier 4 string HB. Then again the "average" dolphin fan doesnt visit this site on a daily basis like we do. Very easy going guy! He's also not 5'11, more like 6'1. The best word i can use to describe the man is "healthy".
Anyway, has anybody heard of Romeo Crennel? You might have seen him chilling in Parcells' Hummer golf cart with the man himself during training camp. Ok maybe not a Hummer, but follow me here. Yeah he got fired from the head coach possition by the Browns but lets go back to 2001-2004. He was the defensive coordinator for the Patriots those years. If these beers havent altered my memory yet, I believe he ran a 3-4 defense which won them superbowls in 2001(6th in points allowed), 2003 (1st in points allowed) and 2004(2nd in points allowed). Hmmm, WHY HAVENT WE SIGNED THIS GUY YET AS OUR DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KLSJDFALKSDJF!!!! I dont know about you guys, but when it was 3rd and 13 and we blitzed 3 people agains the Jets, I went completely nuts. Sanchez loves throwing picks under preassure! Were running a 3-4, we NEED A COORDINATOR WHO KNOW HOW TO RUN A 3-4. Paul Pasqualoni, hit the road. Not a believer, heres an example. The Broncos, pretty much the #1 ranked defense this season thus far, run a 3-4. They got Mike Nolan as their defensive coordinator, and he's successful with OUR OLD STARTERS! Vonnie Holliday, Andre Goodman, and Renaldo Hill. ASKLDJS!!!! Next thought.
Why on earth are we still rotating our rookie CB's? If you look at the play where Braylon Edwards scores on Davis, Smith would have had the hieght to deflect the pass. Tall receivers need to be contained by tall corners. Speaking on receivers and corners, Teddy good job on beating Revis for a TD(2/57, ONE TD). Revis shut down Andre Johnson (4/34 NO TD's), Randy Moss (4/24 NO TD's), Nate Washington (1 TD vs Lowery) and Marques Colston(2/33 NO TD's). Teddy did something none of those receivers could do agains Revis and Shepard. Stay possitive people, his 3rd year is only 25% over.
This BYE week couldnt have come at a better time. Our next game against the Saints is the 24th. One, this gives us enough time to study tape on the Saints, get Henne and the WR's timing down, and figure out how to beat Drew Brees. FYI, Brees is actually more clutch under blitz preassure. Maybe same defensive game plan against the Jets? Quick thought, I hate typing the word "Jets" (suck suck suck). Two, the trade deadline is Oct 20th. If you havent noticed already, the trifecta have already started trying to trade. Kory Sheets who runs the 40 in 4.34 was acquired, and Joshua Cribbs which we aint getting. They can stop worrying about winning for one week and focus on getting the best trades to fill our problem positions. We need a special teams return man asap. Something tells me Porter might get traded while he still has value. Calm down people, just a thought. Possibly for a WR or NT? Lets just relax until the next game and brush up on our Madden skills.
Im out.

QUARTERBACK POLL
Ok ladies, the question is simple. Which quarterback do YOU want STARTING from now on? It 0 - 3, you have a choice to make. One, get MrMedic to give CP10 some pills and surgically repair his shoulder before we face the Bills. Two, give Henne a shot. Three, give our second round pick a shot and let him earn his 2.4 million in guaranteed money. Four, who needs a quarterback? We'll Wildcat our way out of this one.
Let history tell us how this year plays out.
Since one of the biggest stories in the NFL last year was how the Phins managed such a wonderful comeback, I decided to take a look back at other teams that made a simiar turnaround. I mean, we cant be too far off the formula these teams had, we had the best comeback in history!!! Most of these teams had either new coaching or a new quarterback. All I'm reading is people blaming players, and people giving up on players and/or the season, me included. Were gonna take a look at history to let us know our future. Curtains rise, spotlights on, lets get this show on the road.
Colts 1974 2-12
1975 10-4 playoffs
1976 11-3 playoffs
Colts 1991 1-15
1992 9-7
1993 4-12
Colts 1998 3-13
1999 13-3 playoffs
2000 10-6 playoffs
Giants 1928 4-7-2
1929 13-1-1
1930 13-1-1 (would have been playoffs)
Raiders 1962 1-13
1963 10-4
1964 5-7-2
Rams 1998 4-12
1999 13-3 playoffs
2000 10-6 playoffs
Steelers 2003 6-10
2004 15-1 playoffs
2005 11-5 playoffs
Patriots 1975 3-11
1976 11-3 playoffs
1977 9-5
Jets 1996 1-15
1997 9-7 (Parcels took over that year)
1998 12-4 playoffs
Bears 2000 5-11
2001 13-3 playoffs
2002 4-12 (from bad, to great, to horrible)
Chargers 2003 4-12
2004 12-4 playoffs
2005 9-7
Ok, so lets analyze this a little bit. Out of 12 teams after their come back season; 6 teams made or would have made playoffs, 9 teams were .500 and over, and 3 were under .500. These statistics tell me acouple of things. First, we have a 75% chance of being over .500. Not bad for being a team thats under construction and needs high draft picks to fills its needs. Second, we have a 25% chance of being under .500. This is very unlikely. We have Pennington, the NFL's most accurate QB and a possible replacement that started at Michigan as a freshman. We have Bill Parcels and company know who to build a team. He did it with the Jets (damn, the Jets?) back in 1997, why can't he do it with us? Third, 50% of the teams made it or would have made it into the playoffs. We are the AFC East champs!!! The AFC east comes through Miami. Simple mistakes lost us the last two games. They were definately winnable (is that even a word?) if it werent for uncharacteristic mistakes and coverage issues. Lets try to be optimistic guys, 14-2 isn't bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Breaking my silence & DC$
First I want to say hello to everyone out there. I am a daily visitor of The Phinsider for the last year and read up on almost everything this site has to offer. I had to break my silence tonight. Matty wrote how the defence lost the game and barely touched on special teams. Aside from containing the tight end, they did everything right. They kept Manning off the field, stopped the run, and returns were not a problem tonight. Lets take a look at DC$. If he would have made the field goal he missed, the score would have been 27-26. The Phins could have kicked a game winning field goal at the end of the game. They were in field goal range. Let's forget about the defence, Ginn's dropped passes, or why they rushed Ricky when Ronnie was having and outstanding game. DC$ lost us that game!
