Dan Marino - Mobile?
It seems that the NFL network is having the same problem we are; no news. So they named their 10 most mobile QBs and guess who showed up at number 7. You got it our guy Danny Marino.
About half way down there is a link to the video that shows the 7th pick. I must say its pure Dan Marino. I truly love watching this guy. Very special!
The Magician
http://www.marlinbriscoemovie.com/
For anyone in the know knows that it was Marlin Briscoe, not Paul Warfield, who was the leading reciever for the unbeaten 1972 Dolphins. Sure you knew that?. Did you also know that Marlin holds a QB record with the Denver Broncos too? Yes he was the first MA Black Quarterback. Why isn't "The Magician" talked about the same way some other's are such as Doug Williams or Warren Moon? Who knows, but this movie is going to change that, I hope. Take a look because it's a great and true story.
The 08 QB class
I just ran across this and think it's a great read.
There are comments after every guy by Dave Lewin, the guy from FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS, who came up with the idea of grading QBs, using their number of starts and Comp. % are the telling factors as to the sucess of a QB going into the NFL. I think people here will be surprised as to where some guys land and their notion that Brohm is their #1 guy and that most of these guys are way over rated. THey don't say that it's just my take on what they do say and I agree with most, if not all of it; esp. the comments on Josh Johnson.
Anyway I hope you enjoy.
The Reboc ad
You guys might just want to take a look at this. I think it's priceless. The 72 Dolphins are still the only perfect team in the NFL. I can't think of a better way to show it than this ad. Enjoy.

MM was right I guess the Pats were driving up to their house when they found out the LOAN didn't go thru. The "Giant" bank turned it down.
One last word on where the 70's Dolphins standin the history of great teams of the NFL
Just who was/is the best team since the merger? Was it the Steelers of the 70's, the 49ers of the 80's, the Cowboys of the 90's or is it the Pats of the 00's? I say none of the above; it was the Dolphins of the 70's.
Now just how can I say that? Everyone knows that it has to be the (insert name) .......... And no one ever says anything about the Dolphins of the 70's because they only won 2 Super Bowls, right? With so much talk about this I took the time to check the best 4 year span of all 5 teams using their won/loss record. As Bill Parcells says "You are what your record says you are", would you agree with that? If that is the case then the Miami Dolphins have the best 4 year (71-74) of any team in the league up until today percentage wise.
The Dolphins 71-74 team record is 56-10 .849% *1 (3 SB appearances in a row)
The Steelers 76-79 team record is 52-16 .765% **5 (late side note)
The 49ers 81-84 team record is 48-17 .738% **2
The Cowboys 92-95 team record is 60-15 .800% **3
And
The Pats 01-04 team record is 57-16 .780% *4
As you can see the Dolphins have the best overall winning record during each team's BEST 4 year run and no one beats the Dolphins up to this point. I know the national media will never agree that this is the case but I just wanted to set the record straight. Plus I was very curious as to just how this would turn out. Five notes to clarify a couple of things that I'm sure will come up to question my figures or my methods. All records came from NFL.com.
**1. According to the Cold Hard Football Facts, there are in fact, three different ways ties get calculated into a head coaches winning percentage. If your man was coaching before the 1972 season, they're completely disregarded; If your man started coaching NFL ball in the 1972 season or later, they're counted in the same way ties are in the teams record - half win/half loss. HOWEVER, if your man coached through the 1971 season and into 1972 or beyond, there's a third calculation - ties before 1971 are disregarded, ties in 1972 and later are counted using the 50/50 split. In 1971 the Dolphins played KC in their first game that year and it was a 10-10 tie. As per the 71 rule I threw the game out but if I had counted it the percentage would be .842%. As you see it really doesn't make much of a difference.
**2. The 82 season was a strike year and only 9 games counted. Don't worry as the 49ers were not good that year but the span does include their 3 SB wins..
**3. This is the span that the Cowboys won 3 SB's.
**4. This is the span that the Pats won their 3 SB's
**5. With all the talk about John Beck and his age I just thought about the fact that Roger Staubach was with the Cowboys in the 70's. That got me to thinking what about the Boy's record in the 70's also. Guess what, you got it, they also beat the Steelers win record but only by .003% with a 75-78 span record of 53-16 for a percentage of .768%. Roger won 2 and lost 2 Super Bowls in his 11 years with the Cowboys.
This brings me to my last point that the 70's era produced three teams that dominated that span more than any other three teams of any 10 year period since. It truly was a great time for NFL football.
Tidbits from the MiamiHerald
This came from Barry Jackson's Florida Sports Buzz, courtesy of the Miami Herald
CHATTER
- The Dolphins' Vernon Carey said he graded out about 4 percent lower at left tackle in 2007 than at right tackle in 2006 and ''wouldn't have a problem'' moving back to the right side if asked.
- Count former Browns tight ends coach Ben Coates -- who played for Bill Parcells in New England and interned as a coach with him in Dallas -- among those expressing interest in an assistant's job with the Dolphins. Miami is expected to pursue Dallas defensive assistants Todd Bowles and Paul Pasqualoni to join the staff of Tony Sparano, widely reported to be the Dolphins' likely head coach. . . .
Saw this and wanted to post because of what I said about V. Carey and moving him back to the right side. It seems as if I was wrong so I stand corrected. I am glad that Vernon is willing to move back, and feel that way for several reasons.
Number one, is that it makes the debate much better as to who we might pick and that opens up as to who just might be willing to trade with us so we can get more picks and that neve5r hurts.
Also I do hope the Jets hire Armstrong, it couldn't happen to a better team.
East West Shrine Game

- Bryan Smith, McNeese State, defensive end/linebacker - Hula Bowl
Why move Vernon Carey
After reading this thru and seeing just how well Carey did in 07 as our LT why on earth would anyone want to move him again.
http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol.php
4th best to run behind (5.05 YPC) and only 3 sacks allowed all year. He should have been the one going to the Pro Bowl not JT. The only thing I'd like to see him do is cut down on the 7 false starts but I bet he will next year. We should pay the man a boat load of Wayne's money and sign him up for the next 7 years. Oh, and PLEASE Bill, don't do something stupid and move him back again (to the right side) it will just mess with his head plus you won't find anyone better. (Insert CB LT or Long or whoever you wish)
Another trade idea
First of all we need for Matt Ryan to have a killer senior bowl week and knock out combine/college day workout. For us to have any chance to trade down, which I think we all agree, is best for this team.He has to come thru so that some one in the top 5 thinks we will take that QB with the top pick. It is already going around that our front office is intrested in Matt Ryan which helps. It just might be better if Bryan Brohm was in this mix also.
It is known that Arthur Blank will move up (to get his guy) and pay the price to do so because he did before with Mike Vick.
Ok, now the Falcons get pick #4 (because of the coin toss) and trade up to our spot to take Matt. We get their first (#4), their 2nd (#35), and their 3rd (#68). We then trade the Falcons #4 pick to Dallas for their 2 first rounders and their 2nd in 09.
Now what we have is two first #20 and 30, 3 seconds #33 #35 and #50, and two thirds #65 and #68 which gives us 7 picks in the first 68 players picked plus an 2009 second round pick. After all said and done we will be about 300 points short but 3 picks this year and 1 pick in 09 ahead.
So what do you think?
Ricky's back!
A nice read about RW getting a letter signed by our new VP Bill Parcells.
"No problem children or pot heads" oh really?? :)
http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/365133.html
This brings to mind the comment that some have made about Cam "lying" to us. I think we have just seen the first spot on Bill's brand new, clean, white dress shirt.
History in reverse
In 1972 the Miami Dolphins did what no other team in NFL history did up to that point and it has been another 35 years and that team still sets alone atop that record. That team was coached by Don Shula proven to be one of the best ever.
35 years later a team in the same division The NE Pats under Bill Belichick are poised to do it again; have a perfect season.
Several things stick out as being very simular about these two teams. In Miami the man who built that undefeated team was Joe Thomas said to be the best in his day. In NE their GM is now said to be the best, in the business today.
In '72 Miami won both games against NE by scores of 37-21 in NE and 52-0 in Miami. This year NE has won the first of their two games against Miami with a score of 49-28 in Miami, I wonder what the score will be in NE. If there is any truth about history repeating then we best be prepared to with stand one heck of a beating. The spread in '72 was 16 and 21 for the road team and Miami beat NE at home by 52 points while shuting out NE. Will the same happen to us on the 23rd?
In '72 NE''s record was 3-11 while at this point in '07 we sit at 0-13. For the first time ever I'm begining to think the Pats will run the table and join us as the only teams to have a prefect record.
If I were a betting man I surly wouldn't go against the Pats this year as it seems they have history on their side.
Where do we go?
We are BAD there is no getting around that fact. There are 12 starters who are now on IR plus we had 5 replacements/starters out yesterday. That is 17 out of the original 22 man team that we started with in Sept. I know, I know, if you start you should play like a starter! John Beck should play like Dan or Tom or Payton, yeah right. And the real fact is that if we still had those other people on board we would not be a good team. Oh yes we might have won a few games, 3 or 4 but, face it, we just aren't a very good team right now and are getting worse by the minute. We've had 13 different line ups on defense in 13 games, some of those people weren't on ANY team at the start of this season, which means they are scrubs, leftovers, FA's that nobody wanted. And Cam is supposed to win with these guys, Bill Belichick and Don Shula, together couldn't win with these guys. Tom Brady or Payton Manning couldn't win with these guys. And yet the answer for most people is fire Cam, fire Randy, fire Capers, oh hell lets just fire everybody including Wayne H. and start over. Ok so just where do we start over? And please no Tuna Or Chin here because they are to smart to want to waste their time plus no SB winning coach has yet to come back and lead another team to a SB, not one. No college coach, since the Cap, has come from the college ranks and led a team to the SB. Not the old ball coach, nor Nicky Saban, and most certainly not Pete Carroll (he who left with his tail between his legs after 3 years with the Pats). Anyone for Marty ball? The problem with him is that we will never see the play offs and you can forget about the SB, ever!
If Wayne fires Cam (which I hope doesn't happen, by the way) I do have 3 names, one of which, I would hope that he hires. And they are: 1. Brian Schottenheimer (yes Marty's son) with 8 years in the NFL coaching. 2. Josh McDanials with 6 years in the NFL coaching. And/or 3. Jason Garrett with 11 years as a player/coach plus 3 years coaching in the NFL (plus Jason is already known to Wayne and Randy). All three have good backgrounds and come from winning programs under proven HC's. Of the three I like Josh McDanials the best but I really don't know if any of them would be willing to come in and give it a shot because we are so bad talent wise. Also I would want an Ironclad contract that I couldn't be fired for 3 years because of the talent level on this team. I would want Wayne to adknowledge that he wouldn't expect me to win in the first year more than 3 games all year ( might even want that in the contract). Plus I would want to keep Randy Mueller with me as long as we could work together.
One thing is for sure, because of the talent level of this team, no matter who comes in if Cam is fired we won't be winners for some time. Oh we may win 3 or 4 games next year (with or without Cam) but some/most of you just don't see just how bad the talent level is right now. Even if we had our starters and Nicky boy hadn't bailed out on us we would be very bad. Do you really think he didn't know just how bad we were. Knowing the ego Nicky has it must have scared him to death and I'm sure he thanked his good luck for falling into the Bama job cause he wasted no time jumping ship.
Yes the Bills game was hard, do you really think I wasn't screaming bloody murder with this mess. I've already cancelled NFL sunday ticket, I just can't pay for Wayne's product anymore. But it is he and Brian more than anyothers that have put this team where it is today, not Cam Cameron. Sure Cam has made mistakes, I don't see any wings on him yet. Hell the biggest mistake Don Shula made was to start Earl instead of Johnny U in SB three. He coulda won with Johnny U (HOF QB), Mr. Golden arm himself, but no Don had to do it his way and lost. Sure the Jets won that day but sometimes the best team doesn't win the game. So with having said all of this My guess is that now Wayne fires Cam, or ask him to step down for the good of the team, and all of the anti Camers will feel good for the time being until next year when we will be losers again and then you will be calling for someone elses head again. Oh well what ever will be will be and I'm sure of one thing Cam Cameron won't let it get him down as anyone who has survived the big "C" surely won't let the loss of a job (even one he wants badly) get him down for long.
So go ahead make my day cause after yesterday it can't get much worse.
Calling for Cam's head and the polls
After seeing the polls and reading all the post on several boards I feel the need to say a few things in defense of our Head Coach, and by way of association, our GM Randy Mueller. Let us be very clear here; I am very unhappy about our record and the out look for this season. I think we will be 0-11 before we get our first win and even that isn't assured (that's why they play). By the same token to call for Cam and or Randy to be fired, even if we go 0-16 (God forbid), is like shooting the mule in the corn field after the gate was left open by someone else. Cam hasn't been able to win because of a lack of talent not a lack of trying and that lack of talent is due to bad management by Wayne H, JJ, Whinny and Spillman, and last but not least Satan. Satan may have gotten one or two things right and JJ did also but they were not enough to overcome the rest of their blunders and the whole Whinny/ Spillman era which was a total loss. Those are the guys who left the gate open and they are gone and nothing will bring them back; thank goodness. What can we do about Wayne, well he is like a rookie QB who was thrown into this game so we give him time to grow as he has a lot of potential, he doesn't mind spending his money to get us, and him, a winner.
I'd like to go over some of these, so called, bad calls starting with:
The Ted Ginn and his family saga. The #9 pick in this past draft was to be our future franchise QB Brady Quinn and with the #9 pick we get - tada - Ted Ginn. I could hear the boos and groans all the way up here in Georgia. Are you kidding me FIRE them both NOW. Well I beg to differ. Here are Ted Ginn's numbers after 4 games starting - 8 catches for 153 yards at 19.1 YPC and 1 TD; by the way his 19.1 YPC is second only to Paul Warfield's numbers on the Miami Dolphins (HOF numbers). His 19.1 YPC is also better by 2 yards than the #1 WR picked, you got it, Calvin Johnson is caring a 17.0 YPC and he only has 2 TD's. Now let's go to his kick and punt return duties. I'm sure you weren't on the edge of your seat yelling and screaming when Ted ran that punt return back 87 yards for a TD, oh and how about in Cleveland or against the Giants in London, no. YEAH RIGHT! Oh but we lost Wes Welker and just look at what he's doing for the Pat's. Well let's see how Ted's numbers stack up against Wes's numbers. In 2006 Wes Welkers KR numbers are 48 returns for 1064 yards and a 22.2 average (he's averaging 22.3 in NE) with no fumbles. Ted's numbers are (so far in 10 games) 36 - 859 - 23.9 - and no fumbles, neither had a TD. Wes's punt return numbers are 41 - 378 - 9.2 - noTD's and 3 fumbles. Ted's numbers are 15 - 188 - 12.5 - 1 - 0 fumbles. I think that in the years to come Ted will prove that he was a pretty good pick at #9. Oh, and Brady Quinn, well the jury is still out and with Anderson playing so well it may take some time before we know just what Mr. Quinn can do besides push a pencil.
John Beck in his first game as a rookie he didn't put up great numbers but he showed great presence in the pocket, threw no picks, didn't get sacked, and has a good rapport with Ted Ginn. John could have also had a TD if the rookie TE had caught the ball (it did hit him in his hands). I like what I see so far. Plus, I have to add, he is one of the two QB's I wanted us to get, Kolb was the other one.
Samson Salete our rookie Center who has started every game from day one. I have to admit that I wanted us to get Ryan Kalil which shows just how much I know as Kalil has only played in two games for Carolina. Our O-line is now anchored for the next 10 to 15 years. This speaks well for our offensive play in the future.
The O-line turnaround has been nothing short of fantastic to say the least. For years it's been going from bad to worse starting with the JJ plug in system (which didn't work). We've had 7 games in a row of over 100 yards rushing so far this year; only the second time (2002 with Ricky and that was in spite of the line not because of it), since the glory years under Shula. Some have questioned the reason HH took so long to get the line turned around; personally I think Satan had something to do with that but HH, being a stand up guy, will never say that. My hope is that we are able to keep HH for a very long time.
Some of the other draft picks are playing also such as the FB and the kicker as well as guys on the defense.
Most of all though I'm impressed with how Cam is getting these guys to stick together and play hard even after an 0 and 10 start. If we can, and I think we will, win 2 or 3 games and have another great draft in 2008 I believe we will see this team turned around and headed to some Super Bowls. If Cam and Randy get fired, as most of you seem to want, then I feel we are in for more of the same mess that we already in and trying to climb out of now and it will only set us back another year or more. We need to give Cam/Ran at least another 2 years and let them show us some more of their mojo.
Ok guys I've had my say, thanks for reading, Happy Thanksgiving, now fire away.
John Beck's age, does it matter?
Everyone seems to be overly concerned about John Beck's age and because we don't have anything better to talk about it has become an important part of the John Beck era. I really don't see that it matters and I will give you my reasons why, so as to defuse this matter, I hope.
First, John Beck hasn't played one down as a starter. We don't know what kind of QB we have in John. We hope he is the future of this team, we may even pray that he follows in the footsteps of our two HOF QBs and will lead us to the promise land but until he gets on the field and produces all we really know is that he is a quality COLLEGE QB who is now 26 years old. He may turn out to be like Drew Henson or Roger Staubach/Steve Young.
Second, let's take a look at Drew Henson. Chose Baseball over Football and when he failed at baseball he was then given the chance to play in the NFL. Well he failed at that also but I would remind you that he had already failed at something else.
Third, Roger Staubach is the next name that pops up in my pronouncement. Roger was drafted by the Cowboys but served his time (5 years) in the U.S.Navy, including time in `Nam. He then came into the NFL and had a HOF career. It was in his 4th year that he became the Cowboy starter and he held that job for 7 years. He was, and still is, a winner in everything he has done. He was driven out by that dreaded "C" word not age. He won a Super Bowl.
Fourth, Steve Young is my final name. Picked in the draft by Tampa Bay and was there for two years. I'll bet Steve would tell you that he was VERY glad to get out of there. He was then traded to the 49ers and sat on the bench behind Joe Montana for 4 more years. He was 30 years old when he got to start in the NFL and played at the highest level for the next 9 years. He was, and still is, a winner in everything he has done including winning a Super Bowl and being named into the HOF the same year as our own Dan Marino. He also was driven out of the NFL by that dreaded "C" word not age and he was 39.
This brings us to John Beck. Here is a young man who chose to serve his Church overseas for two years before starting his college career. He then went on to have a great career at BYU and then was drafted by the Dolphins in the second round this year. He has been a winner in everything he has done so far. Will he be a HOF QB and lead us to a Super Bowl win, or two, who knows? What we do know is that he is a winner in life and that alone sets him up to be a winner in the NFL. Age doesn't hurt in that respect it helps.
Remember one last thing; the cream ALWAYS rises to the top of the barrel. No one ask how long it took to get there they only want to know how good it is and how soon they can have some.
