Given the fact that Todd Helton came to the plate with a chance to hit his way into his first-ever playoff game, and Heath brutally put him down, I propose that Heath now be known as Heath "No Justice" Bell. That is all.

so who's eligible for the postseason roster on this squad? I'm pretty sure neither Jason Lane, Chase Headley, and Drew Macias are ineligible....
Here's the "active" roster according to padres.com. If it's accurate, and Bradley is out, Macowiak is hurt, and the guys I mentioned are ineligible, it looks like they're bringing 5 pure outfielders along.

right now, the Arizona Diamondbacks (long name) have the best record in the NL. They can win out and finish with 92 wins...this team that no one thought would do a thing in the NL oh, two months ago?
Does baseball have some great stories this year or what? Is the wild card the best thing ever? ESPN 93 Braves-Giants chase aside, MAN. This is some heady stuff.

til next season. though we lost, the pads had a great season. they played some great ball, some not-so-great ball, and some inspired ball. i laughed, i cried, blah blah blah. and i did most of it here on GSB.
so thanks, gaslampball, dex, jbox, and all you kickass commenters, for a fun season. i'll miss ya til next summer.

i just heard buster olney on ESPN say the red sox are pursuing a multi-team deal that could get them scott linebrink. olney said "3 or 4 teams" would be involved.
anyone else hear this? unless the deal gives them a major-league power hitter or a top-flight pitcher/prospect, there's no damn reason to trade scotty. is he in his last year or something?

Pads power outage

Okay, we're not exactly that far into the season, but so far the power numbers I expected have not been there. I understand that Cameron and Klesko aren't in there putting more fear in the pitchers, and Piazza is up there a bit, but he still should affect the rest of the order.
The team has one guy with more than a single homer: Robo-Khalil. That was not one I was expecting. Since his first swing as a Pad, Piazza hasn't homered, and has a measley 3 RBIs. He's tied with EY, Giles, and noted powerhouse Josh Barfield.
I know it's early, but the offensive numbers are kind of sad. One interesting stat: The team has 41 walks, and Gilley has 13 of them.
So will this change, or is it same old no-run Pads?

I'm watching the replay of a game I already read the results of, RBV's LL team heading to the American final after beating Maitlan, FL in a controverial game. I just watched Dante Bichette and another coach arguing (correctly) that their kid hit a homer, and not a double as the official signalled.
As far as I can see RBV is one game from going to the championship game, with some serious competition in the way. Hawai'i has some fantastic little guys, I watched them tear another team apart. And the defending champs from Curacao are still in it. Japan beat the Canadian team in an 11 run shutout....gnarly...

I just turned on the game, and got to see EY lay out to snag a ball deep in the hole. I swear, this guy's got some heart.
Can Chan Ho stop this miniskid and get the Pads back on track?
Since they already made a liar out of our dear absent Dex, we have to believe the Pads won't lose a series for here on out.

Hi! I asked Dex for permission to post this.
I'm shooting a television commercial this coming week, and need about 12-20 Pads fans for extras. I don't have any money in the budget for extras, but I can get some Padres gear to hand out for anyone who helps. This is pretty soon, and it's during the week. Young, old, male, female, anyone who's a hardcore Pads fan, and wants to be in our TV spot, give me an email!
