I have been following the Mets since their inception in 1962. I have been to the Polo Grounds to see them play and I was at Shea when it was a spanking brand new ball park. I have seen many players come and go from pitchers such as Sherman "Road Block Jon

Jose Reyes

Jose Reyes has great talent. But he should be batting 8th and the hitting coach should be breaking down his swing and teaching Reyes how to hit. By doing the same thing wrong over and over again he will marginally improve but never be the player he can be or it will take him years (5 or 6) to develop. I'm sorry he is just not smart enough to teach himself how to hit. He needs a teaching manager and hitting coach to work with him. He doesn't seem to have that on the Mets.

Impressive Seo could be bargaining chip

"As Kaz Ishii continued his struggles Wednesday at Shea Stadium, a possible replacement, Jae Seo, gave the Mets another reason to reconsider going with Ishii.

Seo, who has been buried at Triple-A Norfolk since May 5, struck out nine in 8 1/3 innings in a 3-1 victory over Toledo. He is 6-2 with a 1.92 ERA since his demotion and has become more of a strikeout pitcher during his stay with the Tides with 90 in 90 1/3 innings.

"He's better than the league right now," Norfolk pitching coach Dan Warthen said.

Seo's best feature has always been his pinpoint location, but he's expanded his repertoire since returning to the minors, mixing in curveballs and splitters for about 10 percent of his pitches along with his standard fastball and changeup.

Warthen said that in Wednesday's win, Seo threw about six curveballs and four splitters, using one to whiff Magglio OrdoƱez, who was rehabbing with Toledo.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, Seo has drawn serious attention from other clubs.

He is out of options after this season, virtually guaranteeing he'll be in the majors somewhere next year, if not sooner."

Why isn't he brought up to the big club with Ishii moving to the BP?

What are the Mets waiting for?

Met Changes

The Associated Press reports the following Mets Transactions:

"The slumping Mets released struggling reliever Mike DeJean on Monday and put second baseman Kaz Matsui on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised knee."

"The Mets also activated left-handed reliever Dae-Sung Koo from the DL and will call up outfielder Gerald Williams from Triple-A Norfolk before Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia."

"Matsui was injured while turning a game-ending double play in Oakland last Thursday, when Jason Kendall slid hard into his knee. An MRI on Monday showed a very deep bruise."

"Right fielder Mike Cameron had fluid drained from his ailing left quadriceps and could be available Tuesday night. He hasn't played since June 12."

"Notes: Triple-A INF Jeff Keppinger has a fractured left knee after he was taken out on a slide June 15, but he is not necessarily out for the rest of the season, the Mets said."

The Mets have had a host of pitchers fail this year, i.e. Ishii, Aybay, DeJean, etc. A friend of mine who is an Oriole fan wanted to know why the greatest pitching coach in the history of the game, at least in his own mind, Rick Peterson, couldn't turn these guys around? Maybe someone who has a high regard for Peterson will let me and my friend know why Peterson couldn't do something with these guys. They all have good stuff so what's the problem here.

If the Mets would have checked the extent of Matsui's injury earlier they could have replaced him on the roster Because they waited Willie had to play short handed in Seattle.

Keppinger was playing well enough to have been brought up earlier. Now he will probably be lost for the season and he is no longer trade bait.

Do you really thing Gerald Williams is going to make a difference?

Even with Omar this is a poorly run organization. I really thought this year would be better and maybe over time it will. But right now it is not.

Yankees Interested in Cameron

Sid Rosenberg, on WFAN, said that the Mets are looking at Wang and Cano for Cameron and that Cashman has admitted to talking with the Mets about this.

If it is true then Omar is as big of a jack ass as Steve Phillips. What happens to these GMs when they come to the Mets? Do they instantly come down with Alzheimer disease? The Mets system is loaded with rh pitching with the type of stuff that Wang has. Put Cano in the Mets lineup without the outstanding hitters around him and he may be as bad as Matsui. Give Keppinger a chance before you deal for Cano.

The deal makes no sense from a Mets point of view. Cameron has been one of our best hitters. Diaz, except for one stretch, hasn't shown much except that he can hit into DPs. If the Mets make that trade it is a signal that they have thrown in the towel for this season.

Some Of The Sports Writers Have Compared This Team To The 1984 Team.

Some of the sports writers have compared this team to the 1984 team. I am old enough to have actually followed the 1984 team and I can tell you I never felt about the 1984 team like I do about this team. The 1984 team made you feel real good about the future. This team makes you feel like next year the slogan will be "Come Watch the New, New Mets. Next Year is This Year." Right now the slogan is "Last Year is This Year.  Come Watch the Same Old Mets."
