Bolden v. McGloin: The Stats
The stats don't lie: McGloin is actually in the middle of the BIG in passing efficiency at 144. Bolden is nearly 20 points behind the next worst BIG QB at 85. And it's worth noting that Gray and Martinez, the only challengers to RoBo in badness, at least are running QBs. Mac has 4 TDs and no picks. Bolden has 1 TD and 4 picks.
Now, I know the folks who say stars don't matter and stats are all a conspiracy will poo-poo this. But the gap is so huge and obvious that there is no way around it. McGloin is vastly superior. He probably is not a top 6 BIG QB in reality, but he would need to play a lot worse to match Bolden in the race for the cellar.
I was clamoring for Bolden to get a chance when McGloin faltered last year. He's gotten his chance, though, and has not delivered. Mac has to be the guy. 5 games with stats and the obvious difference in leadership/moxie/confidence/offensive play is enough to decide this competition.
The MAC (Gloin) System
The MAC (Gloin) system looks surprisingly like the DENNIS System:
- Demonstrate value--steps in to preserve a win vs. Minnesota when Bolden gets a concussion
- Engage physically--leads the offense to its best showing of the season against rival Michigan
- Nurture dependence--his moxie inspires an emotional comeback against jNW for Joe's 400th
- Neglect emotionally--McGloin melts down against OSU to hand the Bucks the game in the 2nd half
- Inspire hope--a win over Indiana and a late charge against MSU make fans optimistic
- Separate entirely--MAC throws five INTs including the game-ending pick six against Florida
I'm hoping there's a fair, open QB competition and Bolden or Jones can Move In After Completion assuming one those two is a legitimately better option. If we don't have a better option long-term, well, I guess we'll be getting the scraps of the Big Tewelven.

Outback Bowl on ABC
The Outback Bowl is going to be on ABC, running concurrently with the Citrus (Capital One) Bowl and the Gator Bowl. Kind of interesting PSU's game gets the top billing at least in terms of the network it's airing on. Is the match-up that good relative to the Citrus Bowl (Presented by Capital One)? Is Urban Meyer that beloved? Do they know something about Joe we don't know? I doubt the last one--too many people to keep it a secret. But it is odd the lower tier bowl is getting a bigger stage than the Cap One Bowl.
The old ABC intro, pre-ESPN, from 1994-1996. Brings back warm fuzzy memories. One of the comments on youtube sums it up best: "Wow. This gives you feelings that you don't want to fight."
ESPN says TP overrated
From the article: His numbers may look gaudy at first glance, but a closer look at them and the real reasons he is among the frontrunners for this award shows that Pryor may be the most overrated player in college football.
Guess you need Insider to read it, but we already know what it will say.
Pessimism: why be disappointed later when you can be miserable now?
Back in the pre-season, when lots of BSD posters were predicting one or two loss seasons, I was not buying into the irrational hype. We had a young team with no entrenched QB. The defensive front 7 lost a ton of high-level talent. And the OL also was its usual question mark self.
Denial: it's a river that runs thru USC
USC athletic director Mike Garrett, speaking at a previously scheduled USC Coaches' Tour at the Airport Marriott in Burlingame, Calif., had this to say Thursday to boosters: "As I read the decision by the NCAA, all I could get out of all of this was ... I read between the lines, and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans."

LJ Jr. to Bengals
Larry Johnson appears to be signing with the Bengals. Why am I not surprised?
