I am a management consultant with one of the Big 4 accounting firms. The focus of my work is assisting clients with two key elements of improving thier business:
1) How to plan better and track progress more effectively
2) How to cut costs and optimize functional or process performance

I also write articles and speak at conferences on leading business practices on topics such as outsourcing, shared services, and financial planning.

I grew up in Edmonton during the glory years of the Oilers. I have been a fan of the team since I was 10 and have continued to follow their progress despite moving out of the province in 1993.

What should the Oilers do this summer? Calling all arm chair GMs.

Since this year is lost, perhaps it is time to start thinking about what the Oilers should do to fix the team. Not sure if all these guys make it to free agency, but the guys I would like to the...

Oilers 29th in score adjusted fenwick!

+

Travis Yost posts up his score adjusted fenwick standings and the Oilers have slipped to 29th in the league. Bonus: he also craps on Tambelini, especially for the Brown acquisition.

Boys on the Bus finally used for good

2

Darren Dregger reports the Oilers had Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey speak to Justin Shultz as part of thier sales pitch to woo the young defender. Great move by the organization, even if it doesn't work out.

Viktor Fasth signs with Ducks

12

Well, Tambo was in Sweden talking to Klefbom and he couldn't be bothered to sign Fasth to replace Khabby next season. So the Ducks are signing him instead. We really are doomed to another season of Khabby. : ( Nathon MacKinnon here we come.

Hockey's Future names Eberle Divisional MVP

+

Not that there will be an awards dinner or anything, but its nice to see an Oiler player recognized for his play.

Oilers rumoured to make smart move. This is denied by team.

1

In his 30 thoughts peice, Elliotte Friedman notes the rumours the Oilers had only wanted to do a one year contract with Ryan Smyth are false. Why would the Oilers only want to do a 1 year contract with an over 35 player who absolutely isn't going anywhere? Why would they want to settle into a Sakic/Selanne type relationship where each new 1 year deal is based on what's left in the tank? No, they want to sign Smyth to a longer deal and take the cap hit whether he plays, plays to the contract value, or not. Yep, that sounds like the Oilers.

The Iginla solution - should it apply to Hall as well?

4

An NHL analytics expert explains how one simple switch will boost the performance of not only Calgary's best winger but also Alex Ovechkin. Given the way Hall plays, he might as well have been talking about Hall as well.

A Tale of Two Rebuilds

1

Apologies if this has been posted before. A comparision of the Leaf's rebuild and the Oilers rebuild. Really highlights the value of a balanced re-build strategy. Relying solely on the draft is foly. Trades are a key part of it. Wake up Tambo. You're only doing half your job.

Bob Murray willing to trade Ducks' core players

2

Bob Murray may be crazy. He keeps trading with Brian Burke and getting his ass handed to him everytime. Now he says he is willing to trade anyone on the roster not named Koivu or Selanne. Should the Oilers make a play for Getzlaf? What would it take to get him? The Oilers 1st this season, Gagner and Peckham?

Teemu Hartikainen injured?

1

Noah does a nice job keeping up to date with the Barons. In his weekend updated, he mentions Harti getting injured. Anyone know what happened and if it is serious? "After winning a 5-4 win in Grand Rapids, the Barons came into Rockford to take on the IceHogs with somewhat of an advantage. David LeNeveu would start in net for OKC, and Alexander Salak for Rockford. There was no scoring in the 1st period. In the 2nd, Phillipe Cornet would get 2 goals, one on the powerplay, and he leads the AHL in goals with 15 on the year. In the 3rd, Rockford would get a powerplay. Brian Connelly scored from the point off the draw to put the IceHogs on the board. There would be no scoring later until the empty net goal by Ryan O'Marra. Teemu Hartikainen left the game in the 2nd with an unknown injury. Barons head back to play the Grand Rapids Griffens tomorrow at 4:00 p.m."

Hockey's Future's updated on the Oilers CHL prosects

+

"Edmonton Oilers have looked to the North American junior ranks (specifically the CHL) early and often in the four years since Stu MacGregor took over as Head Scout. As a result, there has been a tremendous amount of quality and quantity at the junior level for the exciting young club, players who will be pushing for roster spots at the pro level sooner than later. Many have graduated in recent years and are either pushing for a spot with the big club, or are established as NHL regulars already. There are still 10 junior level players in the Oilers system, many of whom are having very nice starts to their 2011-12 campaigns. " Individual snapshots of each prospect are included.

Draft suddenly doesn't seem as deep

+
Redline: We looked at the 2012 crop as having some marquee value at the top end (led by dynamic Russians Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko) and very good depth. Oops! Wrong. The injuries, combined with some pretty uninspiring performances from the prospects we were counting on to fill in from the late first through the mid-second rounds, have the scouting community shaking its collective head. What had been perceived as a strong draft year is suddenly looking somewhat barren. There's still time for some of those who have underwhelmed to this point to pick up the pace. But as of mid-November, Red Line's view of the 2012 draft class has soured considerably. Maybe tambo did the right thing asking for the Ducks second round pick next year rather than this year.

Taylor chorney back to OKC, Plante called up

5

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenceman Alex Plante and assigned defenceman Taylor Chorney to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League. So long Taylor. I had high hopes for you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Does Kyle Turris want out of Phoenix?

16

Numerous sites are reporting that Kyle Turris may be headed out the door froim Phoenix. Sekeres suggests a coach that prefers to play veterans over kids is part of the problem. That wouldn't be an issue in Edmonton. So, should the Oilers take a gamble and make a play for Turris, the former 3rd overall pick?
