Athletics Nation RIP Dave Neihaus... Wish Bill King had a tribute like this.

I frequent a blog called "This Song is Sick"... It's mostly hip hop songs and dubstep remixes of random songs that I don't know anything about... Anyway! Randomly, a song/music video about Dave Neihaus and the Seattle Mariners popped up... I don't like the Mariners (in fact, I strongly dislike/hate the Mariners,) but as a life long fan of baseball and hip hop, I appreciate this. I have a feeling some of you might, too.

Athletics Nation Swisher article from "Buzz" Magazine

I got this magazine from Comcast in the mail and Nick Swisher is on the cover... There's also a short article/Comcast commercial by Mychael Urban.

I think they might give these away at Comcast offices, so if you want one you can try picking one up there.

Athletics Nation Haren agrees to terms on four-year contract

http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20050926&c ontent_id=1224947&vkey=pr_oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's today announced that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Dan Haren on a four-year contract through the 2009 season with a club option for 2010.

Haren is 13-12 with a 3.81 ERA in 33 starts with the A's this year. He is tied for second in the American League in games started, tied for fourth in complete games (3), ranks sixth in strikeouts (157) and is eighth in innings pitched (210.0). The 25-year old right-hander started slowly this year as he was 1-7 with a 4.87 ERA over his first 10 starts through May 26. Since then, he has gone 12-5 with a 3.40 ERA over his last 23 starts, including a career high and A's season-best nine-game winning streak from May 31 to August 7. The winning streak included five no decisions, all A's wins, and his 14 consecutive starts in an Oakland victory tied the club record set by Chuck Dobson in 1971.

The A's acquired Haren on December 18, 2004 from St. Louis along with Kiko Calero and Daric Barton in exchange for Mark Mulder. He made his Major League debut with the Cardinals in 2003, going 3-7 with a 5.08 ERA in 14 starts. Haren went 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA in 14 games, five starts, for St. Louis last year and has a career record of 19-22 with a 4.19 ERA in 61 games, 52 starts.

The A's now have eight players under contract beyond the 2005 season, not including Scott Hatteberg (club option for 2006) and Keiichi Yabu (club option 2006). In addition to Haren, the other seven players and the years they are signed through are: Eric Chavez (2010, club option 2011), Bobby Crosby (2009), Keith Ginter (2006), Rich Harden (2008, club option 2009), Jason Kendall (2007), Mark Kotsay (2008) and Barry Zito (2006).

Athletics Nation Eric Chavez on KNBR 7/28 (MP3)

FP Santangelo and Larry Krueger filled in for The Razor & Mr. T and they had Eric Chavez on at 5:05 PM today.

Same as before, download this soon, I'm not leaving it up forever (I'll keep it up as long as this diary is on the front page.)

He talks about the slump at the beginning of the season, Eric Byrnes leaving, the speech on the bus, Tony Phillips ripping on him when he was a rookie, the Manny situation in Boston, etc. Very good interview. The very beginning was cut off, but all they talked about was how to pronounce his name and then they asked Chavez about the slow start.

Right-click, Save As:

The quality isn't as good and I think there are some skips but it should work for the most part.

One-line diaries are prohibited on Athletics Nation. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.

Athletics Nation Random A's Highlight Videos Pt. 1

All files are in .WMV format except where there's an asterisk*, in which case they're in Real Media format. I recommend you right-click & save as and play them from your hard drive to avoid buffering.

2000 - Randy Velarde's unassisted triple play (2.7MB)

2003 - Eric Byrnes hits for the cycle in San Francisco* (3.4MB)
2003 - Ramon Hernandez walk-off bunt*

The World Series clips are from The Oakland Athletics World Series DVD by Q Video. You can buy this DVD at the Coliseum or on eBay, among other places. This is a must-own for any A's fan. The 2000 clips are from an Oakland A's DVD called "They Can Play!" which you can still buy at the Coliseum out in front when they have that tent with the outdated and obscure A's memorabilia (i.e. Ben Grieve ROY Beanie Babies, Spring Training t-shirts, John Jaha framed baseball cards, etc.) The DVD is short and dated, but what do you want for $2.00? The Real Media files are files I downloaded at one time or another and had on my computer.

I plan on adding more clips, most likely from the 3 WS in the 70's, more from 2000 and any others I can find. I'll post a Part 2 thread when I can get some together.
