San Francisco Giants Game
I'm heading to San Francisco in June and plan on catching a Giants game when they play the Swingin' A's Friday night. I'm going to post on the Giants SBN blog and see if anybody knows of any coupon codes, but thought I might ask the LSB community if anybody had been out to AT&T Park and can provide any insight on where the best seats are and which seats to avoid. I think it would be cool to see the Bay, but also think I can just walk over there and take a peek without having to see it from my seats.
Anyway, any information would be greatly appreciated, so let me know.
MLB had major say in operations
Nolan validates what just about everybody thought.
RT @SI_JonHeyman: great signing by a's to get sheets. $8 mil est., maybe a bit more. good job by knobler on story.

Hang on to Jason Garrett
As per ESPN's first take, the Cowboys have given the Falcons permission to interview Garrett for their vacant coaching position. Garrett hasn't agreed to interview yet, however. Also, they slipped in during that headline that Garrett is the leading candidate for the Raven's job.
Let's just hope Jerry can keep him around!
Austin Cowboys fans
Where are all of you Austin Cowboys fans going to watch the game tonight? My current plan is Trudy's south location (really mad that the normal one isn't showing it because it's right by my house). However, I did find some places on the internet to watch free tv including the nfl network, so I'm debating going out to a bar and listening to a bunch of knuckleheads talk about football while I'm trying to focus.
What are your plans for the game if you are in Austin?
OMG!
Carrie Underwood found herself a new man!
Poor Romo, she is smoking hot! So much for them being engaged. He better make sure and focus on Minnesota - news about an Ex might make the unflappable Romo a little nervous!
Here is to Romo shaking off the 'ole ball and chain and throwing tons of touchdowns for the rest of the season. Once he gets to the superbowl, I'm sure she will want him back!
Can this tank guy play corner?
I think that having Tank Johnson is going to be a nice addition to our D-line because it will provide some rest for Ratliff and give us a decent rotation at that position. But man, I really wish we could have found a troublemaker that can run with a wide receiver. Our run defense has been a pretty darn good unit so far this year, and while it never hurts to add depth to the D-line, our secondary could use some depth as well.
Crayton's mouth
I'm a little on the fence when it comes to all of Patrick Crayton's recent talk. One on hand, I love talking smack in my fantasy league, and I love the fact that we are good enough that trash talk can actually be worth something. There is a certain swagger that comes with backing up your talk consistently. Crayton's Superbowl prediction seems to be ok mainly because it doesn't really provide much "bulletin board" material for any one team. However, I am always a little bit weary about going after specific teams.
I know we should definitely run over the Vikings this weekend, but saying that you feel sorry for the Vikings for having to deal with us after this pats game can provide some material to a team that is much better than the Buffalo Bills. He also said on the DFW sports beat on FSN "...you might as well call us the Purple People Eaters on Sunday."
A.D.
I don't know everybody else's college football ties, but man oh man, I am praying for somebody on our defense to light up Adrian Peterson on Sunday. Nothing worse than a Texas traitor that decides to go up north so he can win a championship. Everybody knows how that turned out for him.
Another thing, why would you give somebody the nickname of "A.D." when his real initials are so close to that? Eventually this guy is gonna get hurt just like at OU and he will no longer be able to run around "all day."
TO's celebration
This is extremely unimportant, but something that I've been wondering ever since the game. What was TO doing when he caught that touchdown pass? I wasn't really paying that much attention because I was jumping up and down, but even when I watched it again, I still had no clue what it was he was doing.
Was he praying? Was he thinking? Was he scribbling on the ball? I really don't have a clue. If anybody has some insight into the celebration that didn't matter at all, I would love to hear it!
Maybe he wasn't doing anything at all, but it seemed deliberate, so I'm curious.
3rd down defense
I think most people would agree that our 3rd down defense was the achilles heel of our D this afternoon. If you take a look at the play by play, you notice how many 3rd downs we were able to get them into at the beginning of the game. What you notice, is that the defense simply got worn out. Giving up 1st downs on 3rd downs consistently is totally demoralizing to a team and makes the defense stay on the field for a very long time. Our slow start on offense also helped wear out the defense, but take a look at the numbers and its pretty evident why the defense got so tired.
Our Defense v. the Pats Offense
Everyone keeps talking about how the Pats offense is unstoppable and that our Defense won't be able to hold them back. However, I say look at last year. The 9-0 Indianapolis Colts come to Dallas with what I would say is an offense just as good if not better than the Patriots. Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne vs. Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth? I think I'll take the former every time. Regardless of that point, the offenses are very comparable talent wise and production wise.
The Folk Wagon
Man I haven't seen this many people jump on a bandwagon this fast since....
well...
Tony Romo!
And believe me, I'm on it too. In fact, I'm driving the thing. I am, however, slightly worried that the sheer quantity that has boarded the wagon might bring it to a screeching halt, or worse, make the wheels fall right off. We must remember that Nick Folk has played in 5 games in the NFL. He has also made 1 single clutch kick in the NFL (well 2 if you count the cheap timeout). Regardless, I'm pretty sure he isn't Morten Anderson or Jason Elam yet.
Biggest game since...
I'm trying to think back to the biggest regular season game before this one coming up against New England on Sunday. I was looking through the seasons on dallascowboys.com for a big game.
Start Random Thought... Can you guys BELIEVE we were 5-1 with Q-smoke at the helm in 2003? ...End Random Thought
I originally thought we might have to go back to the '95 Superbowl Season.. we were 8-1 and had San Francisco at home. I was a young fella back then, but I'm willing to bet it was a huge game. Result - SF 38 - DAL 20 ouch. Good thing that game meant nothing and we went on to win Superbowl XXX
An Interesting Point about MBIII
In the Inside Valley Ranch newsletter, a reader makes a very interesting comparison of MBIII and Troy Hambrick. Take a look.
Q. Maybe you should remind your readers about Troy Hambrick, a more massive version of Emmitt Smith, who dazzled in spot duty but fizzled when made the starter, a promotion that fans demanded for several seasons. There really is a benefit to playing backs with contrasting running styles, though it seems the starter ends up taking the brunt of the criticism, while the backup gets accolades for a gaudy yards-per-carry.
Matt Hempel
TAYLOR: Wow, that’s a great point. I can’t really say that I disagree with you. I think Marion Barber is a really nice running back capable of starting, but I think there’s no doubt his skills are enhanced by the fact Dallas has another quality runner. Julius Jones is no bum. He has two of the top four rushing games in franchise history. He can make plays. Before the end of this season, both guys will be huge factors in whatever success the Cowboys have.
A few thoughts on the game
We have a serious problem with our running game. It is a weakness that has been hard to see because of the great passing game, but Monday night it really showed up. We have gotten most of our yards in the second half when we are already up by a lot. If we ever have to rely on it, it is going to be a long night. Fortunately, we were able to move the ball in the passing game when Romo wasn't throwing an interception.
To blitz or not to blitz
Gary Horton makes the claim in this article that the Cowboys are not going to blitz young QB Trent Edwards. They are instead going to be sitting back, hoping to force Edwards into bad throws because of tight windows. This seems counterintuitive, and he says that, but he didn't seem to explain why they would want to do this.
It seems to me that they should blitz Edwards frequently. In his first start last week against the Jets, he had close to an 80% completion percentage. I didn't get to watch the game, so I don't know how many were dink and dunk passes, but it seems to me like the guy is pretty accurate. From this high level view, pressuring him looks like the way to go in order to force this guy into bad throws.
Thoughts?
Skip Bayless is a moron
Did anybody see the Budweiser Hot Seat with Skip Bayless and Mike Golic? Skip never ceases to amaze me with his horrible analysis. He made the claim that Jerry Jones is waiting on signing Romo because he still isn't sure about him, and that we can't bank on Romo winning any games for us.
How on earth does this guy continue to get a job on ESPN? I've always thought that he just likes playing the devil's advocate role, but now I really think he is just flat out stupid.
Instead of asking who else doesn't like Skip, I will ask this question... does anybody actually like this guy at all, or enjoy listening to his opinion?
A look at our non-division schedule...
Now that we are past the 4 game mark, we have a better picture of what our opponents look like this season. At this point of the season, our non-division schedule is looking very nice for the rest of the way. We get our two hardest opponents (NE and GB) at home, and the rest consist of @Buffalo (1-3), Minnesota (1-3), the Jets (1-3), @Detroit (3-1), and @Carolina(2-2).
Our division is never a cake walk, so we can't expect to win all 5 remaining games with Philly, Washington and the Giants, but the non-division schedule is certainly looking like it could possibly be a 5-2 campaign. I know its never good to look this far ahead, but I am so damn excited about this team that I can't help it.
Who's ready for the Superbowl?
Offensive Line Grades
In these first three games of the season, the O-line has gotten rave reviews and good "grades" from Wade. I'm just curious, are these grades based solely on the outcome of the play, or are they based on if the lineman got beat or not. It seems to me like Romo's uncanny ability to dodge flying Urlachers has caused us to think that this line is far superior to last years.
Granted, they have looked better in the run game (it is pretty easy to run behind a billion pound man), but as for pass protection, I haven't seen a huge difference from last year. My thought is that the line wasn't near as bad as Drew Bledsoe made them look, but also is not near as good as Tony Romo makes them look. We simply have a slightly better than average offensive line.
