Overly expensive designer jeans are my weakness, and True Religion is my favorite brand. Imagine my surprise when I saw this in their Fall 2008 email:

LOL so, it appears our highest-paid pitcher has been supplementing his income by doing a little modeling.

(Sorry for taking up a FanPost, but I couldn't find a way to fit it into a FanShot that I liked)

Second Half: Stronger or Weaker?

"The second half is really where the strong teams start getting stronger and the weak teams start getting weaker," shortstop Omar Vizquel said. "Teams want to see their prospects, and the stronger teams get the best players from other teams and start separating. It will be interesting what the next move will be here."

-From Henry Schulman's article in the Chronicle.

Omar's been around a long time, and seen many different types of teams, and I think he makes a good (if slightly obvious) point here.

So which way do we think the Post-All-Star Game Giants are going to go?

That may be wishful thinking, but it's nice to see that one of the analyst/columnist crowd agrees.

"The midseason review ... '84 Cubs style"

By Jonah Keri
Special to Page 2

ESPN.com

The Giants are just a shadow of their former selves, whether compared to the big Bonds years, or even back to the days of Mays and McCovey. They haven't been as bad as some of the doomsday predictions suggested, but that's setting the bar pretty low. They have the most compelling young pitcher in the game in Tim Lincecum, great tag-team partners in Matt Cain and Jonathan Sanchez … and almost nothing else. The farm system's slowly improving, but it's going to take time to reverse years of punting the draft and any semblance of building from within before the Giants become relevant again. If I were Brian Sabean, I'd get my resume ready.

Nothing we didn't already know, really, but I always like to see an outside writer's take on our team.

I used to defend Sabean, because I didn't think he was all that bad, but I've since come around to the idea that we need someone new, if for no other reason than that Sabes has been doing it for a long time, and his way has resulted in 0 World Series titles.

756 Ball Going to Hall After All

Apparently the idiot who bought the ball (who shall remain nameless) had a change of heart and wants the ball to be in Cooperstown after all...

07/01/2008 8:46 PM ET

"Bonds' record-breaker lands at Hall Ecko agrees to donate ball from home run No. 756"

By Barry M. Bloom / MLB.com

The odyssey surrounding the ball hit by Barry Bonds for his record-breaking 756th homer last Aug. 7 at AT&T Park took another twist on Tuesday. It landed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame at 7:45 p.m. ET, replete with an asterisk cut out of the leather above the Major League Baseball imprint.

And despite conflicting information issued by the Hall earlier in the day, the ball is now in possession of the red-bricked museum on Main Street in Cooperstown, N.Y., courtesy of designer Marc Ecko. It will be placed on display after the usual documentation process.
