DLD 6/12/09: Early bird catches the elephant...

As promised, a Friday DLD for y'all. Apparently some people wanted to see something...

On Wednesday night, 67Marquez, friend o' 67M, and I went to the game. With our trusty bleacher tickets in hand, we went and sat down in a much lower section. Upon seeing Stomper, we jokingly told 67Marquez that he ought to get his picture taken with Stomper. He writes books! He writes blogposts! He needs a picture with Stomper. Or so was our logic. He fought it initially, but our arguments were quite compelling and annoying, and then a plan was hatched. Stomper came by, we chased him over a couple sections, and then asked if 67M could get his picture taken. "Sure" the handler said, "after this next promotion." So we calmly waited (and took seats even closer than where we were previously), and waited, and waited....the promotion involved Stomper running around waving a BART ticket in the air, and when the promotion was done, he ran up the stairs. And I think "ran" might be an understatement. I've never seen an elephant move that fast. Not to be deterred though, the three of us chased after Stomper. At this point, we were on a mission. But alas, Stomper had disappeared into the Security Guard area, and the break between innings was almost over, so we went back to the seats to wait for his next return. And return he did. And a picture was finally taken.

That bag of peanuts that 67M is trying to choke Stomper with is in fact empty. It was full the first time we tried to get the picture. There was going to be a great shot of Stomper and peanuts. But he ran, so he lost out on the peanuts. Sorry Stomper, that's your own fault.

We've got an exciting weekend of Bay Bridge Baseball going on. Check out this for the matchups, but in a nutshell, it's Mazzaro vs. Lincecum on Friday, Outman vs. Old Man Johnson on Saturday, and Anderson vs. Cain on Sunday. My inside sources tell me that there are still plenty of tickets left for all three games. Great deals for some of them too - here's one for Friday's game. (And for those looking into the future, here's a deal for 6/23). (By the way, can I just say that I love that the A's ticket office has a twitter account (one that frequently posts discount codes), and it annoys me greatly that other ballclubs don't do similarly???)

For those of you that like basketball, apparently this was a thrilling game. I wouldn't know, I watched the last 4.6 seconds (ie, 5 minutes) of regulation, and then my phone rang. Half an hour later, the game was over and I had been thoroughly updated on what's been going on in my friend's life.

It's a Friday DLD, with two bonus Thursday hours left. Enjoy!

DLD 6/10/09: New winning streak mojo thread

Okay, it's almost 1pm, and there's no new DLD??? I mean, I understand there is a draft going on, but still, we need a DLD! Just because our boys lost last night for the first time in a week doesn't mean we can neglect our AN duties. Come on!!

So, because there are numerous draft threads, including at least one thread just for draft links, I'm not posting any draft stuff here. Just other stuff.

So, I do a fairly good job of keeping AN and my work life totally separate. There are people at work that know about my "internet friends", and there are ANers who know what I do for work, but they don't cross over much. So imagine my complete surprise today when a coworker came in with this on their Kindle. You mean people outside of AN are interested in this as well????

Speaking of books, why on earth is this one of the lead stories on sports.yahoo.com/mlb? What, with 30 teams playing, and the entire first day of the draft, you didn't have enough news to highlight?? Ugh...

The clocktower just chimed 1:00, so it's back to work for me. You all will have to add something to the dumping now. So go, Dump!

6/1/09: Zombie Fire Ant DLD

I kid you not: Zombie Fire Ants.

(And my randomness of the day, I recently took a quiz entitled "How long would you survive the Zombie Apocalypse", and apparently I'll be dying on the first day. I'm so not ready for the Zombies....)

Oh, and I've got baseball links too: Yesterday's A's Rangers game: Awesome. Oh, except that whole blown save thing, and the minor heart attack we all had while watching the game, but besides that, it was awesome. Adam Kennedy has himself a fan club now. I think we need signs.

If you haven't seen this yet, watch it. I still like the April 30th catch better, but Ian Kinsler must hate Ryan Sweeney now...

For tennis fans, you've probably already heard about Nadal. 5/18/09: Stress Relief DLD

The biggest event of my job is tomorrow, and I'm at the point now where I'm not sure what I have left to do, but I'm certain there's something I should be doing, but I can't figure out what, so I'm creating a DLD. Wear it.

Typos at work are a bad thing. Or maybe they can work out for the best....

When changing your name, be sure to include all proper punctuation and spaces.

If you are going to mess around at work, don't do it in view of the company web cam...

This is one of my most favorite comic strips ever. And my work nightmare for tomorrow. If there is a sudden freak snowstorm in the Bay Area tomorrow, you'll know that it's all my fault.

And now I have to get back to work and try not to fully panic before tomorrow. But use this for your dumping purposes. We need something to do besides think about those games this weekend.....

This just played on my pandora shuffle here at work....

I'm pretty sure when I was driving along I-80 last night I saw a stegosaurus going the other direction. That might be a sign of lack of sleep, or too much stress from watching yesterday's game, or something else entirely, but it was weird. I would've gotten a picture, except a) I was going the other direction, b) I didn't have a camera readily available, and c) dude, there was a frickin' dinosaur going the other direction. When you see something like that, your instinct is to go straight home and either sleep off whatever you've been doing, or wait for the world to explode.

I can't believe I missed this over the weekend....even more though, the headline here is awesome. I instantly thought it was about something else...

I really don't know what to say about this. I don't remember who my speaker was when I was an undergraduate, but I didn't go because it wasn't anyone worth listening to....

There are a bunch of games today. Here's hoping we don't go into extras, because I'm not sure I can handle another 13th inning like yesterday's....

I saw this, and just had to post it.

Yvonne Morris, a technician at the Brickyard Animal Hospital, said she chased a man who broke into a co-worker's car, but he kept squirming away from her. Morris eventually grabbed the man's boxer shorts and pulled. Salt Lake City police said she then she put a headlock on the man until help could arrive.

Oh, and A-Rod says steroids =/= tic tacs.

"... We went outside team doctors, team doctors and team trainers...We probably didn't even take it right...

"All these years I never thought I did anything wrong."

So wait, you knowingly took something, but didn't tell team doctors and trainers, but still didn't think there was anything wrong?
