Casual Hoya Know your enemy - STJ special advisor Gene Keady

Good article in the WSJ- NY section about STJ hoops advisor Gene Keady.  While I look forward to the Hoyas kicking the Redmen's ass tonight, its nice to see the recent resurgence of STJ in the Big East.  The Big East is better and Georgetown's position is strengthened by a vigorous St Johns basketball program defending MSG.

Casual Hoya Naughty Naughty Nova Boy

Villanova boxer hoopster Jayvaughn Pinkston out for the year after beating down some frat boys.  Nova taking a hard line after two counts of simple assault and harassment following a fight. Here's what the NYPost to say.

Seventy five word filler - I read that JayVaughn boxed in high school.  At 6-7 260 lbs, this isn't the dude you want to tangle with when you want to flex your beer muscles in front of your frat-bros.

Casual Hoya ESPN's Telep likes what he sees w newbie Lubick

Dave Telep's analysis of the up and coming new faces in the NCAA highlights Nate.

Best Finisher, Big
The Georgetown Hoyas are going to get a lot of mileage out of power forward Nate Lubick. He's a blue-collar guy with a big motor. You can't go wrong with a guy like this.

Nice to get some press for our newest big man.  I haven't been this excited since Brendan Gaughan hit the NASCAR circuit

Casual Hoya NYPost Weighs in on Draft - Monroe

Ny Post Article

WINNERS

PISTONS — Greg Monroe -- a 6-foot-11, 250-pounder who projects as Alonzo Mourning with a better offensive game — fell into general manager Joe Dumars’ lap with the seventh pick.

CELTICS — One-and-done Texas guard Avery Bradley might be the second-most talented backcourt player in the draft. Boston got him with the 19th pick.

KEVIN PRITCHARD — The former Portland general manager was fired by foolish owner Paul Allen. But Pritchard convinced Allen to let him run the Trail Blazers’ draft. He dumped Martell Webster, shed salary and got Nevada forward Luke Babbitt, Memphis guard Elliot Williams and his freedom.

LOSERS

JOHN CALIPARI — Kentucky set a record with five players chosen in the first round. Even with that kind of talent of the roster, Calipari could not coach the Wildcats to the NCAA title or even get to the Final Four.

KNICKS AND CAVS FANS — The Knicks don’t have the biggest check, and the Cavs might have to pay more to keep LeBron. The Knicks also drafted iffy Stanford prospect Landry Fields in the second round. This is how Tom Hanks felt in “Cast Away” — stranded.

BOBCATS — The only thing worse than doing poorly is doing nothing.

WARRIORS — With the 20-year-old Monroe on the board, Golden State took the 6-foot-10, 240-pound Ekpe Udoh, who is 23.

COLLEGE SENIORS — None was drafted until Clemson’s Trevor Booker at No. 23.

Casual Hoya Johnnies Ready to Welcome Steve Lavin

Chatter in the NY Post is that Lavin is the leading candidate to coach the Redmen next year.

St. John's athletic director Chris Monasch and former UCLA coach Steve Lavin left a dinner meeting at a Tribeca restaurant last night with the understanding that Lavin would become the Red Storm's new basketball coach, several sources told The Post.

When Chris Mullin was draining threes and Bud Tall Boys, the Redmen were one of our fiercest rivals in the Big East.  These days beating losing to St John's just hasn't been as rewarding as the good old days.  The Big East is a better league with a competitive Redman team.  So, welcome Coach Lavin.  The Hoyas look forward to making your life miserable during your tenure in NYC.  The only thing we’ll enjoy more than kicking your ass next year is the chance to gaze upon your lovely wife.
