I'm a geologist from SW Colorado.

"Glaucophane" is a mineral that grows in high pressure conditions. When you look at a thin slice of it with a microscope, it looks like purple diamonds. (My avatar is a picture of it.)

It seemed like an appropriate handle for commenting on a Rockies blog.
