NC State among best NCAA title bets

North Carolina State Wolfpack (60-1) The Wolfpack spent a good portion of the season sleepwalking through their ACC slate; hence their underachieving No. 8 seed. But Indiana is vulnerable as the No. 1, and the Wolfpack need only to pull a single upset over the Hoosiers and they'll be in excellent position to make a run to the Final Four. Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie will be playing in the NBA next year at this time and Richard Howell is a rebounding force. All five starters average at least 12 points per game, and four of the five are upperclassmen. This is a veteran team that's very tough to shut down on the offensive end. The Wolfpack have the requisite size and athleticism to pull off an upset or two, and I'd like their chances in an Elite Eight rematch against No. 2 seed Miami.

Morris vs. Dykes

Simple poll: which coach would Pack fans rather hire? The poll is after the jump. In order to use the poll function of a FanPost and fulfill SB Nations word requirement, here are some facts on...

The Dark Meyer Rises

The Dark Meyer Rises

Almost Top-25

Luke Winn at SI - whose opinion I respect - has us just outside the Top 25 next year. I know Katz has us in his - he's made his love of Coach Martin known - but a 2nd poll confirms those expectations. I hope this team can deliver!

Top 25 for 2012-2013

24. Tennessee Cuonzo Martin had the Volunteers on the cusp an NCAA tournament berth in the final two weeks of the regular season. Now, Martin gets Jarnell Stokes for a full season, along with the bulk of his teammates. The Vols will continue to play as hard as any team in the country, as Martin has established an identity of defense and toughness that will serve Tennessee well in the SEC.

John Tenuta to remain at NC State

Tenuta on his family: "I may have made a decision without fully thinking through the situation with them."

Tennessee to play Duke in 1st Round of Maui Invitational

per Gary Parrish's source (Update from Will - it's official, and not only will the Vols get Duke in the first round, but they're guaranteed to get an emotionally-charged second round game with either Memphis or Michigan. Hooray?)

Rocky Top League Stats

I didn't see any of the games, but if anyone has, correct me if I've misconstrued anything. -These stats don't include assist numbers, but from what I've heard Golden is looking like a true PG. I'm hoping he will be the best we've had since CJ Watson. -Skylar McBee's 3-point shooting. If he keeps that up, he will be hard to keep off the court. We've lacked a legit 3-point threat for a while, even though a few players were close last year. -Of the newcomers, Cheivous looks to be the most ready to see the court. He's a SG, didn't shoot the 3 particularly well, but was good inside the arc. I suspect more of a wing. -Tatum was probably the most dissappointing of the bunch. Part of that was because he was on a terrible team, but he will be a senior and has the most experience coming back. I hope he fits well into Martin's system.

Shuler Considering Tennessee AD Job

I would be surprised if this happened. He obviously has no experience in this capacity, and I'm not sure how his backgournd lends itself to the AD position.

Vote for Smokey

No way Smokey should lose to UGA. How unique is a Bulldog as a mascot??

At some point in the future, if all goes well, he [Martin] will remember his first 90 days in Knoxville with the satisfaction of a runner finishing his first marathon. It will be that grueling.

Fran Fraschilla says Martin's priority should just be weathering the storm in Knoxville. He also said the new signees are of a Missouri-Valley caliber.

Scotty Hopson staying in NBA draft

Disappointing. I think it's a mistake, and I would be surprised if he makes a team next year. But I wish him luck!

Tobias Harris staying in NBA Draft

This was expected based on the scuttlebutt coming out of the NBA workouts. A huge blow for Tennessee. But I wish him the best luck! Now hopefully Scotty Hopson does the smart thing....

Ryan Harrow's transfer from NC State won't be a crushing blow. Harrow never lived up to the lofty expectations under Sidney Lowe. I remember talking to him after the home loss to Duke when he said he was a bit in awe of the Blue Devils. He might improve elsewhere, but he just didn't seem like the right fit for new coach Mark Gottfried.

Tennessee 5th in 2010-11 Basketball Attendance

The NCAA released attendence data from the past year. Tennessee comes in 5th behind Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville, and North Carolina. As for the conferences... the Big 10 remains in 1st, the Big East overtakes the SEC for 2nd, and the SEC then comes in 3rd.

ESPN says "Wilson may spend last season elsewhere."

This is hilarious. They are suggesting that because Wilson didn't deny a question about him transferring to another school to play one more year of football, that he might actually do it.

Tressel Cited with "Ethical Misconduct"

I assume that's the same as "unethical conduct" which is what Pearl was cited for. It will be interesting to see how the two are punished by the NCAA.

The Nick Saban Method of Recruiting

Dooley has mentioned a lot of this. It has a good track record of success. Unfortunately, we have to recruit against Saban and most of his disciples.

Russell Wilson off to a slow start at the plate

So if he continues to stink, he's not going to come back because he needs to see more pitches? Is that what she's trying to say?

Wolfpack OL taking shape

Would be a huge plus for a new QB to work behind

Hoops Recruiting Update

The headline is about offering the top prospect of 2013. But to me, the real news is that Tennessee is no longer an option for 6-9 forward Lekan Akayi. We are badly in need of a post player for next year, and he seemed the most likely. Now, the long shot might be Joseph Uchebo . He's a 4-star center from Raleigh and was just released from his letter of intent to NC State after Sidney Lowe was fired. The only reason I speculate that Tennessee has a shot with him is because his high school teammate Bishop Daniels is getting a release from Miami after their coaching change and will be considering Tennessee and Rutgers. Could they both decide to play at Tennessee?

UCLA's Howland Expected to Hire Atlanta Celtics Coach

Could impact our recruiting in Atlanta. Tennessee has had a good relationship with the Celtics. Golden and McRae both played for them.

Tim Brando on who the big money in Raleigh want

Barnes already shot it down... but NC State should get in on the Painter action.
