The 2001 SEC Championship Game One of the most shocking upsets of the last decade was this Championship game between LSU and Tennessee. The Volunteers came in ranked number two in the AP poll, Coaches Poll and the BCS rankings while the Fighting Tigers were only ranked 21 in the AP. A Tennessee win meant a trip to the National Championship game, Phil Fulmer’s second in 4 years, but the 31-20 loss to LSU could be thought of as the start of Fulmer’s downfall. He did last another 7 seasons in Knoxville, but his team never again made it into the BCS discussion even though Tennessee did play in 2 more SEC Championship games after 2001. It was a devastating loss for Tennessee, an incredible win for LSU and one of the most shocking upsets of the last decade

3. Venue: Tennessee Contenders: TF Tyler Bray, Jr. Matt Simms, and Sr. Nick Stephens Tale of the Tape: Stephens sure has put in his time in Knoxville, entering his fifth year in the program. Having started six games in 2008, he has a clear edge in experience and will begin spring as the favorite to replace Jonathan Crompton. He didn’t exactly mesh with Lane Kiffin’s staff, so the arrival of Derek Dooley offers a chance to make a strong first impression. Simms began his career at Louisville before transferring to junior-college and attempting to get his career back on the right path. He has kind of a funky delivery, which the staff will get a closer look at in March and April. Although Bray is the future at the position for Tennessee, he’s not ruling out being the present as well. The 6-6, 195-pound Californian has been on campus since mid-December, trying to add weight and digest as much as possible in order to avoid being redshirted.

"Moses just said it was perfect, a perfect visit," Bonacore said of Abraham's impression. "The fans, the environment, everything was just so much more than what we expected. We were both very interested in seeing what kind of support the program had and we were just blown away. It was beyond anything else we've seen." "We've still got a few trips to make before he makes a decision but Moses told me on the way home that Tennessee was going to be tough to beat. They're probably on top right now." "He and Emmanuel really hit it off, they obviously have a lot in common and Emmanuel just did a great job of kind of relating to him what his experience had been like there," Bonacore said. "The game was great and the fans were great, but I think what impressed myself and Moses probably more than anything was the family atmosphere that's really evident with the players and the coaches."

NBA Draft Blog: Wayne Chism

1
[This post was made prior to the most recent Kentucky game, however, I'm not sure Wayne's performace would have changed this evaluation.] Wayne Chism, F, Tennessee Chism is the current SEC Player of the Week and is averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds. He is three wins away from being the Vols' all-time winningest player and is poised to help Bruce Pearl's club to a fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance. So how do his NBA prospects look at this point? Well, he doesn't even crack our top 100, and that's probably justified. Chism, a senior, certainly looks like an active and athletic player in the SEC, but, in reality is a 6-foot-9 "below the rim" guy who relies on pump fakes and creating angles in Tennessee's offense to score inside. He has had trouble scoring over length in a league that has big, athletic post players. Recent games against Kentucky and Vanderbilt simulate what he would see in the NBA, and he was not effective in the low post in either game. Chism, in many ways, is a product of Tennessee's well-executed offense, taking advantage of flex cuts and backscreens to get layups and open jump shots, especially behind the arc. He also trails the fast break and is not hesitant to shoot the 3-pointer in transition, making 34 percent of his 67 attempts this season. And, his lack of ballhandling skills is hidden because he stays within the offense and is rarely in a one-on-one situation away from the basket. Ultimately, Chism has been a very productive player for the Vols, and he is likely get a chance to show his wares in pre-draft workouts. Unfortunately, I do not think he possesses one particular skill that is NBA-ready.

Wayne Chism: SEC Player of the Week

3

Tennessee’s Wayne Chism was named SEC Player of the Week after he averaged 13.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over Georgia and at South Carolina. In Tennessee’s win over Georgia on Tuesday, he scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The Vols are undefeated this season when Chism logs a double-double. Chism then totaled 11 points and nine rebounds as UT defeated South Carolina on the road on Saturday. His final rebound aganist the Gamecocks was the 850th of his career which ranks seventh all-time at UT.

Braves may lead for Damon

1
The White Sox have pulled their offer for Johnny Damon, Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports, which is interesting because just a few days ago, they thought they were the frontrunners. So now, Damon may end up settling for a one-year deal for less than $4 million from the Braves, MLB.com reports. Or he could go to Detroit, but FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday that Damon doesn't want to play in Detroit.

Making the big time. Brian Williams is part of Pat Forde's scenario to make the Olympics more appealing. I think Brian could have the role down pat, except he might have to learn to snowboard.
