Here’s a rumor you might be hearing soon. I repeat, might be hearing.

Kelly Johnson for Ryan Ludwick. Hey, you ask about whispers, I give you whispers. I’ll let you know if I hear it said above a whisper.

That comes from DOB's blog in the comment section. Just a rumor I guess, and I dont suppose that the Braves would deal both KJ, and Yunel in the same offseason does anyone else.

This seems to be selling high on Ludwick who is by no means a young player so that all-star year may be a fluke moreso than a breakout.

Tyler Flowers

Havent seen the recent updates from the AFL so I thought I would post this after seeing Flowers hit his third home run in the last two games, and he is now 5-6 with 3 HR, and is absolutely tearing the cover off the baseball out in Mesa. This may be his coming out party to the rest of the scouting world. He has been considered a top braves prospect for at least all of this year, but if he keeps this up he could be making a run at some top 50 prospect lists.

Hanson makes debut in AFL

Hanson started the opening game for Mesa, and pitched 2 scoreless frames giving up 1 hit and striking out one batter. The game is still in process, and Heath followed up with a scoreless inning as of now. No braves were in the lineup offensively in this first game. But it was good to see Hanson pick it up where he left off. Scherzer started opposite him and gave up a 2 run homer in the first inning.

Peavy to Braves possible

"While they don’t want to mortgage the future by trading away top prospects such as Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman, Jordan Schafer and Hanson, the Braves have plenty of other prospects, especially pitchers, who might interest Towers enough to make a deal.

They don’t want to give up a pitcher such as Hanson or Kris Medlen, or an outfielder such as Gorkys Hernandez or Schafer, but perhaps the Braves would bite the bullet if that’s what it took to get Peavy, who’s no ordinary ace. Maybe — and I’m just throwing out ideas here — the Padres would be interested in Kelly Johnson, since they’re not certain about their second base position next season and like good OBP guys who can drive balls to the gaps."

Thought I would post this tidbit from Dave O'Briens blog.

He goes on to say that if Peavy came available the Braves would certainly be interested, and Peavy more than likely would not hesitate to approve any trade to Atlanta.

Padres Series Pitching

With this being the last series before the break, and the team really needing a series win, why wouldnt they skip morton's spot in the rotation and leave both Campillo, and Jurrjens on their regular rest to pitch on saturday and sunday? And in addition to that, it doesnt seem like they have skipped their fifth starter much at all this year. I dont know why that is whether it is because they want to give the young guys as much rest as possible or what, but i just found it curious.

Cubs Land Harden

Looks like they gave up a Gallagher, Murton, Patterson for Harden and Gaudin. From the looks of it i think they made away like bandits in this deal speaking of the cubs. I know there was a 4th guy they gave up, but i cant remember who. They gave up a young pitcher already in the bigs in Gallagher, they gave up Murton whom they had basically soured on, and Patterson who seems to me to be a one tool guy, that being speed. They Get not only Harden who is an ace when healthy and has been rolling, but also another solid arm in Gaudin

The Central race is on...

Dan from Atlanta asks:
Schafer, Heyward, Hernandez, Jones, and Francoeur; Who are the odd man out for Braves outfield spots?

A:

Matt Eddy: Heyward is in the picture, definitely, and let's give the benefit of the doubt to Francoeur, assuming the Braves don't trade him. (They've renewed his contract each of the past two seasons, rather than reaching an agreement on salary, and you wonder if that may affect their relationship.)

Matt Eddy: That leaves two spots to fill. Jones can't match Hernandez or Schafer in terms of speed or defense, and both outfield corners are already filled, so Jones is out.

Matt Eddy: Hernandez vs. Schafer is largely a matter of taste. Hernandez bats righthanded and offers better speed and defense, while Schafer bats lefty and has proven himself at a higher level. Tough call, but I'll say Schafer.

Teheran's Debut

Teheran go the victory tonight in his first professional start. He went the requisite 5 innings he gave up 3 runs total, all earned. He had a K/BB Ratio of 3/0. I think that the 0 walks says a lot about a kid in his first pro start. I imagine that he had to have been nervous just out of human nature and was able to control his pitches and stay in long enough to get the Victory. Also Kimbrel, one of the braves draft picks in this past draft pitched 2 innings of scoreless releif and had a couple of K's as well.

I read on Atlantabraves.com that when Gonzalez is activated the braves will send Stockman back to triple A richmond. That would leave Ring, Ohman, Gonzalez, and Ridgway. This isnt a tipical Bobby Cox bullpen and I struggle to come up with a reason why the braves would need so many lefties especially with Ohman pitching basically every other day if not more. I personally would much rather see Stockman pitch given the fact that he has done nothing but put zeros on the board since he got the call up. Any thoughts?

I think that without a first round pick the team made out pretty well. DeVall someone said was ranked as the 32nd best prospect, they got him at 40. Spruill was speculated as the player we would take at 40, we got him at 70th overall.

I had the chance to see Schlehuber play in a tournament in Southern Utah, during a double header he a caught a shutout in the first game, and at DH in the second game he hit Homers in back to back AB's

As many players as the braves draft from the Georgia area, they seem to pick players out of CC's in Nevada on a regular basis too. Rohrbough is out of Nevada.
