A's targeting Bobby Abreu and Garret Anderson

Wow, the A's are pushing hard to land a free agent this winter!

According to Susan Slusser, the A's front office has had preliminary conversations about Abreu and Anderson in case they don't land Giambi.

Abreu is likely to be the most expensive of the three, given his age and his production, but the A's have more money than usual to spend this offseason and they are looking for another bat to put behind major offseason acquisition Matt Holliday. Abreu has driven in 100 RBIs or more seven times, including last season for the Yankees, and he has a career on-base percentage of .405.

The A's are more than familiar with Anderson, who has spent his entire 14-year career with the Angels. He's the all-time franchise leader in RBIs, with 1,292, and his career batting average is .296.

Susan also mentions that although the A's really want to upgrade their shortstop, they are not interested in trading for miguel tejada. :(

So ... what do you guys think about our boys targeting Abreu and Anderson?

A's Fan Appreciation Workout Day

So it looks like instead of the usual FanFest in January this year, the A's are having a "Fan Appreciation Workout Day" instead.

It will take place on Sunday, April 5, at the Coliseum and we will get to watch the players hold their final workout before Opening Day.

Preliminary plans for the day include:

A public team workout with batting practice, fielding drills, and special commentary from A's coaches

"Meet and Greet" sessions; player autograph opportunities

Q&A sessions in which fans will be able to hear from players and coaches

Behind-the-scenes tours of the Coliseum

Opportunity to purchase authentic game-used equipment and other memorabilia

Opportunity to win exciting prizes in fan appreciation raffles

Also, unlike Fanfest, parking and admission will be FREE!

I'm a bit disappointed because I look forward to seeing our A's every January and I really enjoy FanFest so we'll see if this is a good change!

link

Snapfish Photo Day pictures!

The Snapfish Photo Day event was held before the A's vs. White Sox game today. Fans were allowed to go on the field on the warning track and take pictures of the A's players. I thought we were going to be taking pictures of them just warming up or something but the players actually came out to pose for and with fans!

Here are my pictures from Photo Day! :

- Mike Sweeney with his son Michael. How lucky is that kid to have Sweeney Sr. as his dad?!

- Cliff Pennington

- I really DO believe M. Sweeney is THE nicest guy in baseball! Can we keep him for one more year please?

- The BFFs - Ryan Sweeney and Daric Barton - handing out Snapfish t-shirts.

- 3 Sweeneys and a Barton

- Huston Street and Joey Devine

- Huston looks tired. =T

- Joey Devine

- Jack Hannahan

- Jack Cust

- Kurt Suzuki

- Around 11:45'ish, the players had to start going back into the clubhouse to get ready for the game. Dan Meyer and Dallas Braden were walking past our area and fans were calling out to them to take one last picture. The stadium workers were telling us "no, they have to go NOW" and Dallas and Dan both said "yeah, sorry, we HAVE to go" but then they turned around and ran towards these kids to take one last picture with them!

- Then they quickly ran away before they got yelled at again! :)

- Santiago Casilla

- My friend did not know how to take a good picture of Gio Gonzalez and I. =P

- Rajai Davis

- And last but not least, the Ryan Sweeney player appearance in San Ramon was after the game. THIS is why his AN nickname is "Swooney". :)

I'm bummed I missed getting a picture with Ellis, Ziggy, and CarGon but it was still a great day! Of course, a win would have made it perfect but hopefully we can take the series tomorrow!

GO A's!!

This is the third time the A's have placed a player on the disabled list in the last four days. Oakland has now used the DL 18 times this year, which is four short of the Oakland record set in 1992 and matched last year. The A's currently have seven players on the DL.

We're close to breaking our DL record! :(

Luckily we have a lot more depth this year!

4/2 Home Game vs. Boston changed to a Day Game

So A's fans already lose out on two home games this season because of the two games in Japan. Now thanks to the Red Sox, the second game at home on April 2nd has been changed from a 7:05pm game to a 12:35pm game!!! (link)

The team had nothing to do with the decision, which, according to team officials was imposed by Major League Baseball at the behest of the Players Association. The Players Association argued that the Red Sox, who have a day off April 3 before playing at Toronto on April 4, need adequate time to adjust to Eastern time after a week in Japan and then a week on the West Coast.

What about all the people who got tickets and made plans to attend the night game? Not only does this game time change screw over the people who bought tickets and can't make a day game because of work, it also screws over even more A's fans because the game will not be televised on TV!

Typically, games against the Red Sox are near sellouts. The team has no plans to exchange tickets for fans who already have purchased seats, but who might not be able to make a day game. "We haven't had any calls today," Crowley said. "We're hoping that by getting the information out quickly, people can make alternate plans if they need to."

Why didn't the Players Association and the Red Sox voice their concerns about adjusting to the time change when they were asked to play in Japan and when the 2008 schedules came out? I am NOT a happy A's fan right now.

Update: Susan just left a comment and said this was a bad rumor. What are we going to talk about now? =P

According to Susan Slusser:

More rumblings that the A's are on the lookout for a center fielder: According to a major-league source, Oakland recently inquired about the Dodgers' Juan Pierre.

Interesting. I guess with the insane amount of players that played in center field last season for the A's, they are trying to gather up as many outfielders as possible!

Who would the A's trade for Juan Pierre??

Would Blanton be included in a package?
