A Titans Fan's Perspective On Your New Coach
I am a huge Titans fan and have been since the days of the Oilers. I live 2 hours away from St. Louis and love the Cardinals. With the addition of Coach Fisher, the Rams have moved up to my #2 NFL team. I have to admit, they were waaaaaaayyyyyy back there before this (still not over Super Bowl loss). Anyway, on to Fisher.
A lot of Titans fans were sick of him and ready for him to leave. They got tired of his conservative style and tired of 8-8 seasons. I am not one of those. Even though Munchak did a nice job this year, I really miss Coach Fisher.
Be patient with him. He will not turn the team around over night. He will get the defense going well before the offense. He is conservative, but he does a great job managing games (time outs, challenges, etc.) Expect Jackson to get a lot of carries and expect Brown to kick a lot more FG's.
One thing about him is he always dominated the NFC. I think in your division he will be a great fit. I'll be pulling for the Rams at all times except when they line up against the Titans!

My $.02
Hello friends at MCM, I haven't posted too much on the site this past year. I do get on here and read a lot though. I felt compelled to get on and post a little during the game today, and thought I'd share my thoughts now that I've let this one soak in a little.
I can honestly say that Chris Johnson is my least favorite Titan at the moment. What a crappy year he has had. Time after time he puts out little effort on balls thrown his way and today it cost the team a chance at a playoff spot. He was awful in so many ways, the two yard run in the second quarter where he got smashed was a joke...zero effort. Then he made it worse in the third on the interception. No effort for that ball at all.
I have been happy with the team this year...never expected them to be in the playoff hunt. I have to give Munch and his staff credit for that. But he needs to learn how to manage a game. Last week I was SCREAMING at the tv to challenge the spot and then this week he burns his 3rd time out with 6:23 left in the 4th. I know he was stopping the clock, but what if we would have needed a challenge? You have to keep one in your back pocket until the 2 minute warning or as close to it as possible. Luckily it wasn't needed.
I like Hasselbeck. He has been outstanding this year and he really wasn' t horrible today. He was too injured and should not have been in there. But I can't fault him and his effort all season.
Locker was solid again, I don't know how it would have been the entire game, but the run and dump offense we were using with Matt sure wasn't working. Don't understand the play calling or QB decision.
We should look back to this year as a success. The defense is young and is going to be good. We have a good QB for the future. I just really worry about the coaching situation....he has to get better for this team to be better next year.

Who's your favorite....
Happy 4th. Today obviously makes me think of Steve McNair. I really liked McNair but he was not my favorite Oiler/Titan QB. So I got to thinking who is my favorite at certain positions. I posted below. I'd be interested to see who you all put as well.
QB- Warren Moon
RB- Eddie George
FB- Lorenzo Neal
TE- Frank Wycheck
WR- Ernest Givens
OL- Mark Stepnoski
DL- Jevon Kearse
LB- Keith Bulluck
DB- Blaine Bishop
KR- Mel Gray
K- Rob Bironas
2011 Titans Opponents:
Home- Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Ravens, Bengals, Bucs, Broncos, Saints
Away- Colts Jaguars, Texans, Browns, Steelers, Falcons, Panthers, Bills
This seems a whole lot better than what it has been the past couple of years. Who knows what type of team we'll have playing these opponents!
Filling some space here, I thought the team played much better today. I'm amazed at how big of an impact Kenny Britt has on the offense. Good things are ahead, maybe not as soon as we like, but they are coming.
Coach Fisher Calls Mariani with good news!
Open Letter To Coach Fisher
(Bumped from the fanposts)
Dear Coach Fisher,
Thank you for 16+ seasons as the coach of this franchise. You took over a struggling team in 1994 replacing Jack Pardee in the middle of the season. You did a great job turning the then Oilers into a descent team. Many people may not remember the total dismantling Bud Adams did following the 1993 season. You handled the move to Tennessee as well as anyone ever could have. At that time it was a young team and you kept them focused and competitive despite playing your home games in four stadiums in four years. You did a great job selling this team to the public. You went out and did things in the community and had your players do so as well. You helped the city of Nashville fall in love with this franchise.
You shocked the world in 1999 by taking a team projected to finish with 8 wins all the way to the Super Bowl. 13 regular season wins, a music city miracle, a whipping on the Colts and Jags got you in the big game. In that game you were beaten by a better team, but helped get this team within striking distance in the end. I wish that would not have been an experimental year in which there was only one week between the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl. I would have loved to have given you and your staff another week to prepare for that awesome Rams offense.
You led our team to an outstanding regular season in 2000. The Ravens game still stings a lot, but frankly the players just made too many mistakes. Special Teams and the Ravens defense were just too much.
The next few years were hit and miss. The 2002 team surprised by making it to the AFC Championship game despite a slow start. Salary cap issues got the team down after that, but given a little time, you were able to rebuild us into a contending team in 2006, 2007, and a great team in 2008. Again a tough loss to the hated Ravens, again bad luck and this time injury problems allowed Baltimore to come in and win. The past two seasons have been difficult. Last year I really thought we underachieved. It seemed like we had more talent than a lot of teams we were playing, but couldn't get it done. The Patriots game was an embarassesment. This season has been disappointing because at 5-2 people believed that we could be a good team. Let's face it, our defense was not good even through those 7 games. We should have not had that good of a record, however we should not have lost 7 of our last 8 either. For the first time in your coaching tenure it seems that you have lost your team. People make stupid plays, are undisciplined, and have seemed to have given up at times. You are the coach so you get the blame for that....just as you get the credit when they play well. I truly believe that we do not have the talent as most teams in the league and the the owner has severely tied your hands.
In any profession, if your boss does not have your back, it's hard to lead. Now, this may go two ways. Obviously your strained relationship with number 10 could have been handled better. Maybe you should have not tied his hands as much as you have. Or, maybe you truly don't see him as a good player, a franchise QB and your hands are being tied by your boss. Either way, it's a bad situation.
For the first time in your 273 games as a coach, I really think that you, and the Titans will be better off with a change. I don't think someone will come in and make this team or number 10 good any time soon. As a fan, I hope I'm wrong (at least on the latter). I think there will be a line of teams waiting to get you. I hope you go somewhere in the NFC where we don't have to face you but once every four years. I hope you go to a team where the owner lets you coach and be in charge of the team. I hope you go to a team where the players respect you and buy into what you are teaching and coaching them. If things do go as they appear to be heading and you are spending your last week at Baptist Park, then please hear me when I say thank you to a job well done!

My Thoughts....
Having been a fan of this franchise for most of my life I will say this isn't the lowest point I've seen this team, but it is pretty close. Anyway....here are several thoughts that I have:
1. It was nice to see them play with some heart and fire on Thursday. I think we just do not have a lot of talent on the roster. Sure there are good players, but there are good players on every NFL team. We just don't have the playmakers that it takes to be a great team.
2. Randy Moss- the playmaker comment leads me to him. Wow, not sure what the deal is. Everything seems that his effort and attitude are in the right place. I respect the way he has handled the situation. I'm sure there is some reason why he isn't seeing the field now, but I don't think it's any discipline. I think it must be he just isn't fitting our system, we will have three more weeks of him and then he will go far, far away.
3. Kenny Britt- I absolutely hated that he wore the VY towel the other night. C'mon, that's a slap in the face of your coach. Agree or disagree with the situation, agree or disagree with your coach, you just can't do something like that. He has to show some maturity. He has a world of talent...I hope he doesn't waste it.
4. Vince Young- I will respect the moratorium that's been put on this issue.
5. The Defense- I think this is a bad defense. I have thought this all year. Early on we were able to shut down the run, but the pass killed us. Now, we can't stop either. I think the d goes for the big play....trying to force a fumble or make the big hit instead of just making a tackle. For those of you that remember Chuck Cecil as a player, that was his M.O. He was very aggressive, often over aggressive. It's okay if one player is like that, but 11 doesn't work. I am so tired of the defensive penalties. It is ridiculous. An NFL team can't give away that many yards and expect to win. No matter what happens with the coaching staff in the offseason, Cecil has to go. It's time to replace Hope, Finnegan needs to learn to tackle, Tulloch needs to spend the offseason with the team. At least we have Verner and Jones.
6. The Offense- Okay, we don't have a QB, that is obvious. I hope both of our main QB's are off the roster next season. It's time to go a different direction. The line has been a disappointment. That was a strength last year, this season they have been full of mistakes. CJ finally looked like himself on Thursday. He ran hard, hit the holes, and looked really good. It was nice to see that player back. Our receivers aren't horrible and the tight ends are descent. We have a lot of room for improvement. And please, let Bo Scaife go. I actually like him, but did not like what he did over the Summer and he has proven he isn't worth the money.
7. Coach Fisher- I have held this one for last. I am a big time Fisher supporter. Always have. Always will be. I do think it's time he moves on though. LIke the QB situation, we need to go a different direction. I have no doubt that if he stays, it will get turned around in a couple of years....but I think people are tired of it having to get turned around. He has lost them somewhere....Eddie George, Steve McNair, Frank Wycheck, Blaine Bishop, etc... they aren't walking through that door to play anymore. They bought in to Fisher's philosophy and style. It's obvious that a lot of the current players haven't. I laugh when I read about the poor playoff record. I don't think there is a single postseason loss that can't be justified. We were rolling against the Ravens two years ago before CJ got hurt. Those things happen. Sure I wish he had gone for it on 4th and 1 the other night. But I don't see that in any way as him quitting. I think he played the percentages (not that I agreed) and gave the defense a chance to stop them. It was the wrong choice, but I'm sure it eats at him a lot more than it does any of us. I was more upset that he didn't kick the FG once we got inside the 35 at the end of the game. I was yelling that 3 plays before the announcers were. We have a great kicker, let him put one through and give yourself a chance to win. There was still 45 seconds or so left.
8. Rest of the Season- I can never sit and hope we lose a game, it's just not in me. However....losing out will get us a better draft pick and an easier schedule next year. Had we not scored a late TD against Seattle last year in week 17, we would have played Cleveland and Buffalo instead of Denver and Miami this year and would have probably had the 10th pick in the draft. Again, you can't hope for that as a fan....but it will make the beat down we get a little more bearable.
9. It will be a very interesting offseaon, I'm glad I have this site to go and keep up on the action. Keep up the good work everyone!

Dolphins shopping Ginn
Wow, I think this would be a great pickup for the Titans. There's our return man we need!
LB Will Witherspoon to visit Baptist Sports Park
Former Panther/Ram/Eagle
Hall of Fame Finalists
Pretty good group. Not Titans/Oilers though. When's Eddie eligible?
Draft Order
Looks like we are picking 17th.
[update by smashville] Whether we pick 16th or 17th will be decided by a coin flip between us and the 49ers (who got their pick from the Panthers).
Merry Christmas and GO TITANS!
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I hope everyone is happy and safe this holiday season. Spend time with your family and enjoy time together. Obviously we are all hoping for a great Christmas present from the Titans. It's obviously a must win, but this team has dodged so many bullets already this season, it's basically just another day at the office. It would be great to put some pressure on the rest of the AFC Wildcard hopefuls heading into the weekend. It will not be easy, playing a very good team with a banged up defense. Hopefully Chuck Cecil will make believers out of all of us. No matter what happens, had anyone told me 9 weeks ago that we'd still be in the playoff hunt on Christmas, I'd of taken it and been thrilled. Again, Merry Christmas and go titans (27).
James Hardy?
Hi Bills fans. As you can tell by my login name I am a fan of the Titans. I was disgusted when the Oilers blew the playoff lead in January of '93 and I was elated when the play was ruled a lateral in January of '00. I'm not here to talk about any of that. Believe it or not I am one of the few fans of the Indiana Hoosiers football team. Can someone tell me what in the world is going on with Hardy? He was an absolute stud in college and seem to have all of the skills to make it in the pros. I really thought he was going to be a star in the NFL, but he is never active. Why is this....is it skills, work ethic, off the field conduct, or all of the above.
Congrats on your win today, good luck the rest of the season!
At the risk of looking like an idiot, I have to honestly say....
I am not surprised by this start. Last year everything fell into place. Were we a good team? Yes. Were we the best team in the NFL? I don't think so, nor did I ever think so. It was a great ride last season. The Titans pulled out win after win and played well. They weren't ever a dominant team, but effective. I remember thinking Jimmy was crazy when his predicted each of the games last year and had our boys winning game after game. I was thinking somewhere around 8-8. Then the team had the season they did, homefield throughout and choked it away. It's so hard in this league to get to the Super Bowl and win it, I was devastated because we obviously blew a very good chance. Do you realize our longest road trip last year was to Houston? That's crazy, things really fell into place and we took advantage of breaks we don't normally get.
Now this year, 3 quality opponents to start the season, let's not forget that. The Texan loss was disappointing, but they are not a bad team. It is not easy to go into Pittsburgh and win or to go into New York and win. The scary thing....where is it easy to go and win? I think we will trudge along and finish the season somewhere between seven and nine wins. We just aren't good enough to be a Super Bowl team. I hope I'm wrong, I hope I'm wrong, I hope I'm wrong.
Now for the QB situation. If Vince Young is going to ever be the QB for this team again, then now is the time to do it. I'm not blaming Collins on these losses, although he has been far from spectacular. But 0-3, why not try Young and see what happens. Like I have always said, I want him to be the QB we anticipated when we drafted him. I think Fisher made the right decision last year and the first three weeks this year....but I am ready to see what Young can do. Things can't be worse.
As for Special Teams, Fisher has always preached about how important they are. I am surprised he has let it get to this, but I expect him to do something to change things. Those of you that have regulars on here for years know that I am a die hard and in it for the long haul....I don't care who is where as long as I am happy on Sunday afternoons. It's time to make the move now Titans....I just don't know if we have it in us.
Enjoy the game!
I don't think I will be able to be on here tonight so I just want to let everyone know to enjoy the game and remember...it's one of sixteen. Don't get too excited if things go well, don't get too down if things don't. It's going to be a very tough task to go into Pittsburgh and pull out a win with all the hype they will have surrounding opening night. Hopefully we can get it done!
I have a volleyball match (I coach) so I won't be home until around half time. Thank God for Tivo, I will watch the game from the beginning. If I catch up, then I'll jump on the site and get involved (I love game days on here!)
Photo of Steve McNair
A photo of Steve McNair: This was the closest I ever got to Steve McNair. It was at TSU at training camp before the 1998 season. He, Eddie, and others stood outside and signed autographs until everyone was happy. I've been so impressed with the coverage MCM has had with this ordeal. I felt my self coming here often the past couple of days....sharing in this with others that feel the same way I do.
Sportscenter just said....
Kind of what August said. The Titans have offered a second round pick and a player (not named) for Boldin. The Cardinals have given permission to the Titans to talk with Drew Rosenhaus. This would be unbelievable friends. We need to do this. I hope it is White too. Come on Mikey.....MAKE IT HAPPEN! I have a little room to fill, does anyone think there is any chance the Titans will be able to get Pettigrew from OkSt.?
All of this predicting and stuff....
is all fun, but we are all fooling ourselves. Here's what is going to happen:
The commissioner will walk up to the podium and say, "with the 30th selection of the 2009 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans select "insert name".
Everyone will be like, "wow", or "I didn't see that one coming", or "who?".
Then we will spend the next couple of weeks complaining about our frustration with the teams lack of improvement during the offseason. We will point to what other teams are doing and question why the Titans aren't doing those things.
Then the season will come around, the team will win more games that any of us thought and "insert name" will end up being a stud.
This is exactly what has happened the past two seasons, I wouldn't mind being happy about the pick...but before it happens, just remember Michael Griffin and Chris Johnson.

Tennessee Titans to Play in the Hall of Fame Game
The NFL announced today that the Titans and Bills will play in the Hall of Fame game next season and will wear uniforms from the old AFL days. This means the Titans will get a 5th preseason game.
5 preseason games scare me. I'm always worried about an injury, however it will be nice to have a nationally televised game to start the year off. i am pretty sure training camp will start earlier too. It should be interesting with a lot of Bills fans since Ralph Wilson and Bruce Smith are going to be inducted.
This is the first time I have actually been able to look toward next season. The Ravens game was 3 weeks ago today and I am still crushed. We very easily could be playing tomorrow for all of the marbles. I'm enjoying the player reviews and hey, let's lay off Alge Crumpler. His fumble really only cost us points (crap, we would of won with 4 more points). But we did get a FG off the field position. It was all of the mistakes....ughhh, I have to stop thinking about it now.
Congratulations
Hey, as painful as it is to lose to the Ravens in this round again...I do want to congratulate those of you that are loyal fans of the team. It has to feel so nice to be the 6 seed and to be moving on to the AFC Championship game. I'm not going to lie to you all, I do not like the Ravens at all. I'm still not over Brian Billick and all of his smugness. I do like Harbaugh though. Anyway, your team made the plays when they had to and that's what it takes to win in the NFL. Congrats again.
Our Image....
The more I see and read, the more it seems that the Titans have a pretty poor image. After the Texans game, I heard of some Houston fans saying how classless the players were in defeat. Then there was obviously the terrible towel situation with Pittsburgh, and now Carolina's RB's going nuts over Lendale White.
How are the Titans viewed by the average NFL fans? I know Colts and Texan fans have a general dislike which is understandable. But what about everyone else? Does the average fan think of us as "thugs" or "punks"? Are we hated like a lot of teams hate the Patriots? Does the average fan want us to lose? How much (if any) does Adam Jones have to do with our image. Is the negativity because we are good?
It's a slow week and I have been thinking about this stuff a little, I just I would get all of your thoughts.
OT- Yankees and Happy Holidays
I know many of us are baseball fans so I thought I would escape the towel talk to bring up the Yankees. Are they just ruining all of fun of the Hot Stove League or what? It is ridiculous how they are allowed to operate and can buy whomever they want. Now I know they haven't won anything for a few years, but what they have done this offseason is probably going to change that. Baseball has to do something to fix this. It has to start with the players union. I don't blame to the team for doing it, they are just doing what they are allowed.
Also, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Spend some time with your families and take a couple of stress free football weeks and enjoy it. Hopefully, the biggest gift from the Titans is yet to come!
Congrats
Dear Houston Fans,
Congrats on a huge win yesterday. I live in Illinois and was an Oiler fan before they left. I loved watching Warren Moon and company in the baby blues. My college graduation present was a flight to Houston to the Astrodome to watch the OIlers beat the Steelers in 1996. It was their last win Houston as the Oilers. Anyway, I'm sure many of you hate the Titans and that is understandable. That has to make this win even more sweet. For me, the move to Nashville was great, now they are just a 4 hour drive from home. Our division is tough and it is just going to get tougher next year because you guys are GOOD. People can blame Fisher for not kicking the FG or whatever, but the fact is we still could of stopped you. Slaton was awesome on that last drive and Johnson is just plain awesome! Congrats again, I hope you win out and finish 9-7. See ya next season!
Lendale White's 4th Quarter TD Run at Chicago.
Thanks to our friends from the Elias Sports Bureau
I've always wanted to say that, it is acutally from this web site:
http://www.jt-sw.com/football/boxes
After hearing the stat a few times about Fisher's two losses when leading going into the 4th, I wondered what they were. I asked during the game, I guessed one and Zackkman guessed another. Well, believe it or not, we were correct. The Titans lost a game to Cleveland in week 3 of the 2002 season. They lost 31-28 in OT after leading 21-14 heading into the 4th quarter and 28-14 with 3:35 left in the game. I thought Cleveland had returned a punt late to tie it, but that had happened in the 3rd quarter.
The other was week 5 of 2006 against the Colts. The Titans led 13-7 after 3 quarters, but lost 14-13. I'm pretty sure most of us remember that game. That's a pretty cool site to go to to look up old games.
By the way, I hope everything is fine with Jimmy. We didn't hear anything from him for most of the 2nd half, and no recap.
10-0 friends, who would of thought????
Thoughts From The Upper Deck
Back from Chicago and relieved to be 9-0. What a sloppy first half that was. The Bears had 9 men in the box on several occasions. We had guys running open all over the field all day long. Collins had plenty of time to throw and plenty of options to throw to. There were several times I though he would dump it off to an open Bongo underneath, but would then throw it to an even more open receiver down the field. The 2nd half was better, but I wish we would of put them away. We have got to quit throwing behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd and short!
Soldier Field is a neat place to see a game. It was cold and windy and there were flurries throughout the game. Bears fans are very knowledgeable and they will turn on their own in a heartbeat. Grossman was not good for most of the day, but he was getting booed on every incomplete pass. Bears fans aren't the nicest in the world. I wasn't sure how I would be greeted so the only Titans clothing I had visible was my stocking camp. Neverthless I was referred to as a part of the female anatomy many times. The peoople around me were cool though and by the end of the game they were asking lots of questions about the Titans. One Titans fan walked up holding a sign that said 9-0 and was talking trash. He was literally having stuff thrown at him. He was about 15 rows above me, he was escorted out by security in the 3rd quarter.
Listening to the radio on the way there and back was entertaining. The sports talk people were ripping on Collins before the game saying he can't throw for 200 yards. I kept telling my brother it's not that he can't, it's just that he hasn't had to. The way home was nothing but praise for Collins and an all out ripping of the Bears seconary. They didn't seem to get that when you load up the box, guys are going to be open. It happened time and time again.
Warm ups were disappointing. I like getting there early and watching everything. VY looked horrible with his passes. He was overthrowing guys on almost every pass. Now I know that it is pregame warmup and it has to be tough when you know you aren't starting, but his passes were not good. He threw behind Hawk on an out route and threw the ball 5 yards of bounds on a sideline route to Crumpler. He did hit Gage on a deep ball, but Gage (who actually caught it), had to slow down. I was just hoping he would of looked sharper than that.
Anyway, it was a good time, I'm glad to see a win and now the Titans have to focus on Jacksonville. I know this is more of a baseball thing, but our "magic number" for the division is 4 and for the AFC it is 5!
Go Titans!
