Official NN Fantasy Football Support Fanpost--Week 10 Edition

Well it's a bit late to post this, with the Thursday game already in the books.  But better late than never, I always say! Week 10 features some tasty match-ups with huge fantasy potential: Texans-...

Reason for hope?

I know that this comparison may be a little bit crazy (OK, maybe a lot crazy), but hear me out.  With a hat tip to Bill Simmons, it's crucial that we not overreact after Week 1's debacle.  His...

Colts Release former 1st Rounder

1

Remember when the Niners traded up to get Staley in the 1st and then traded their 2nd rounder to get the Colts 2008 1st rounder? It looks like the Niners ended up getting the better end of that deal. Oh wait, that 1st rounder was spent on Kentwan Balmer. Bottom line? Even the best teams screw up top draft choices.

One man's final 53 (prior to preseason Week 3)

Here’s how my final 53 looks prior to the Niners’ Sunday game against the Raiders:

"Now [Smith] is preparing to step into the 'Mark Roman' role in the secondary"

2

Don't look now, but it looks like we'll have a chance to replace VORP (value over replacement player) with VORM (value over Mark Roman)!

Spikes interviews Taylor Mays

4

Money quote: Spikes asks Mays what he and Niner fans can expect from Mays next Sunday, and Mays responds :100%, you know, whatever it is, I'm gonna give you 100% and full speed. I know my full speed is fast, so I'm goin' full speed, and it's gonna be right--and it might be wrong--but it'll be full speed..." A funny dash of humility amongst so much bluster and self-confidence.

Pretty convincing, and interesting analysis of the potential the Niners' offense has to take off this season.

Open Letter to the 49ers re: new stadium acoustics

Congratulations on Measure J!  I for one am excited about the new stadium, and hope that the process of securing the rest of the financing can go through and that the process of getting the stadium...

NFL loses anti-trust suit

4

I'm sure Fooch could tell you more than I can about the implications of this ruling, but as far as I can tell this ruling opens the door for some competition as far as NFL apparel is concerned (among other things). Good news, as competition will likely drive down the prices.

Adalius Thomas anyone?

This is actually a preemptive strike on the inevitable fanpost that will come out bearing the same title the moment they read this news story--except that this fanpost is not meant seriously. T...

Niners Nation draft pick 'em contest

5

For the second year in a row, I won this contest. http://challengegames.nfl.com/predictpick Log in, go to the league (it's called Niners Nation and the password is 49ers) and check the standings. I'm not sure what to do now that I've made it to the top of the mountain. Retire? Change my number? Hold out for a better contract?

Looking Back at the 2007 draft

1

The Niners come out looking pretty good on this one: Willis and Staley each jumped up significantly from where they were drafted in this three-seasons-later re-draft.

Niners Sack Tracker, vol. II

This is a breakdown and analysis of the situations in which the Niners got their sacks in the 2009 season.  Overall, the team tied for 4th in the league with 44 sacks.  My methodology here was the...

Hey Mark, we couldn't believe you picked it off either.

Since we all know that McCloughan loooves dudes who block punts, is Terrence Cody to the Niners not the surest thing you've ever seen or heard of? I think it'd be a good move!

Crabtree: Inside the Details

A worthwhile article from contract analyst Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post. He doesn't say where he got the numbers, but it's worth a read.

Niners Sack Tracker 2008

A Niners Nation reader looks into many of the 49ers sack situations to get an idea of where the 49ers pass rush really stood.

post-draft Crabtree interview

+

A media session with Michael Crabtree at the draft after he was picked by the 49ers. It's nearly 9 minutes long, and the questions range widely. Not necessarily new stuff, but it's interesting to see the way he handles the questions--both earnest and political, and occasionally quite humorous; when someone asked him if he'd met with Schwarzenegger, he said "I was down there before, but I didn't get to meet him. You can tell him 'I'll be back.'"

Maiocco on NFL.com

3

Maiocco is interviewed for the "49ers on the Clock" segment that NFL.com is running. He figures the Niners are looking at either Michael Oher or Mark Sanchez with the #10. All I have to say is--I hope not! Although I'm warming to Sanchez (somewhat), I'm definitely not sold on Oher.
