As I read all the reaction from the owners on the lifting of the lockout I get more and more confused. If there truly is no Players Union this would give the NFL power to enforce any set of rules for their employees they want, just like the jobs that you and I do.

All of this "..there will be no cap and NFL will not have parity anymore"  WHY? Can't the league now unto itself say ok the floor for your teams salary is X and the cap is now X either abide by these rules or you are no longer an NFL team? (I'm looking at you Dallas) Or ok everyone the draft will done as usual, if you draft high school kids or college players any other way there will fines and penalties.

Instead of going back to court RIGHT NOW the owners need to have a  meeting to set up a new framework that NFL teams need to abide by to continue to be a NFL team. This could be the biggest win ever for the NFL  if they would play their cards right.

As I see now the NFL has all the power and the players have none, why is the league not jumping on this opportunity to make ALL THE RULES?  What I'm I missing here?

Acme Packing Company Changing of the guard?

I was gonna spend an hour or two today getting my thoughts together (after this nasty hangover passes) and try to get stats, and figures about how great Rodgers is for being so young. Also I was going to write about we have the 2nd youngest team in the league and for the next decade or so we can EXPECT to win the superbowl every year however... I found this article online and it seems to hit all the high point I wanted to make anyway.

So hows about I just share this link with you and get myself another aspirin or two??

Acme Packing Company repost of one of my old posts/relook at my 4th down

First down.....this is a good deal for the Vikings clearly they were in need of a number one wide out and Randy Moss is it...You can't go wrong only giving a 3rd for him. However being that they only gave up a 3rd for him that got me thinking.........

Was there only one team interested in Randy Moss services?? I mean with as crafty as the Pats management is don't you think if there was a bidding war for Mr. Moss they would have gotten more for him. (see Matt Casseldeal) How many team SHOULD have been all over this deal getting a top flight wide out for only a 3rd rounder?

Second down......What do the Patriots know that we don't know about Randy Moss? They clearly have the players to make another superbowl run. Why would you jettison a Pro-Bowl wide out for a 3rd rounder? It can't be solely because his contract is up this year can it?  So that got me looking at the numbers.

Third down.......Randy Moss has played four games this year and has only 139 yards this means if same pace holds true he will end up with 556 yard this year making it one of his worst ever.

Fourth down....If it was not a production issue How big of a cancer is this guy in the locker room?? I mean if the Pats gave him away for a 3rd and only one team was interested what do all 31 teams in the NFL know about this guy that we don't??

Bottom line that this is STILL A GREAT DEAL for the Vikings however......this trade raises more questions than answers in my mind.

Acme Packing Company Should Favre (Really) Retire Now?

Has the time Finally come for Favre to hang it up for good? My thinking is it has, and there are several key factors pointing me in that direction.

1) The Vikings are not going to make the playoffs......there I said it here is the    proof.

Their remaining game schedule

Loss 6-8

Sun, Dec 26

Philadelphia Eagles">

Win 6-9

Sun, Jan 2

Detroit Lions">Detroit Lions @ Detroit (1-5)          Win 7-9

Win 7-9

So even if they win a game I don’t see them winning they are Still an 8-8 team that does not make they playoffs. That is the only reason Favre is back this year to recover "last years magic" and get one more ring. That is not happening this year.

2) Injuries

Lets face the ankle is now officially past the point of no return…..It was a small  manageable issue going into last nights game but after the hit he took on the last INT  he couldn’t even put weight on it.

We all know what happens when Brett plays hurt (see the 2nd half of the 2008 Jets season). This ankle WILL NOT get better this season and pretending that it will hurts the team, whatever is left of his legacy, and now the ankle will hinder him more of the rest of his life and for what?......NOTHING.

3) Penisgate

I hate to even bring this up however…….now that it looks like Jenn Sterger is going to talk to the NFL about this in my mind it’s an 85% chance Favre gets at least a 2 game suspension  for this tomfoolery. To have a clearly amazing ironman run snapped by this issue would be nothing less than devastating for Brett and the NFL in general.

If Brett truly cared about his health, marriage, and his legacy he would hold a presser tell the world for health and personal reason he will be retiring immediately go back to Miss. Work on his marriage, enjoy his grandkid, and get healthy.

Acme Packing Company I have seen the enemy and it is me

Really??  17 Penalties and 152 YARDS!?!?

What is going on at in Green Bay 379 yards of offense and a grand total of  (wait for it)............17 points. There had BETTER be some serious a$$ kicking and soul searching this week. Two INTS called back for pass interfence, a blocked Field goal, veteran O linemen jumping offsides mutable times!!

Lets start Bryan Bulaga next week perhaps he can remember the snap count!!!

Even Rodgers got into the act getting called for intentional grounding.

BTW Who is still kicking to Hester?? My three year old knows not to kick to Hester.

What a coaching nightmare that game was..........rant over!!

Daily Norseman No need to jump ship on Favre

Everyone needs to clam down and take a deep breath about Favre. He is STILL  a HOF QB, he still holds every record in the book, and most importantly he is still giving his all during every game. Favre's INT rate will go up and down based on many things.

A) Receivers- Right now the core of the receivers you have is OK however come week 6 or 7 that will change. ( I still think the Vikings or going after V-Jak)

B) Injury- If Favre's back and ankle are hurting him he will not be at top form. The week off should help his back and he clearly can play with his ankle sore. I mean he only scrambled for 7 yards last season the ankle should not affect him that much.

C) Pressure- If Favre thinks he must carry the team he will try to carry the team, he will make forced throws that may or may not work. (last year most of them worked.)

Bottom line hang tight on Favre.......as Vikings fan you have only seen one side of Favre (the no INT Favre) that other side is ALWAYS there. You just haven't had a chance to get use to it like Packers fans have. Stick with him and you will be rewarded........I still see a Wild card spot for the Vikings this year.

Acme Packing Company Poll time

I was just over at "The Bears Den" and it seem The Packers are the Bears main rival over there.....So that got me wondering does anyone over here at APC see the Bears as our main rival anymore? I mean I know that there is history, and some legendary games between the teams however.....The Vikings seem to have taken the place of the Bears in Packerland recently.

The Bears game DOES carry more weight than most but that is just because they are in our division it means no more or no less than the Lions game does.

Daily Norseman New respect for Childress

Was doing some web surfing and found this quote from Childress from a few years back when  Troy Williamson wanted to fight him.

"If we were to get in an altercation, I'd simply place a football on my head. He wouldn't get a hand on me"

That's classic, that's funny, that type of grit earns respect around the league.

By the way how far did Troy Williamson attitude get him in the NFL??

Daily Norseman Should have Favre said this?/R4F Retirement for Favre?

I don't know why this story did not get more press............

As you know, Favre has begun a treatment plan of lubricant injections into his surgically-repaired left ankle. Favre told Werder that he has already had two such injections since re-joining the Vikings three weeks ago, and is scheduled to have a third after Thursday night’s game.

Favre, who turns 41 next month, said that his mobility remains limited and that he no longer considers scrambling from the pocket an option. But he believes the surgery and subsequent treatment has left him with enough movement to dodge pass rushers in the pocket. We’ll know soon.

I repeat  HE NO LONGER CONSIDERS SCRAMBLING FROM THE POCKET AN OPTION!!  First thought.....why did tell anyone this?? The new plan for any team playing the Vikings will be

1) Blitz

2) Blitz

and

3) Blitz.

He just admitted he is sitting duck back there waiting to get hit like a pinata at 9 year old birthday party. (I don't want to see him FORCED into retirement by injury)

Second thought If your game is that limited what the heck are you doing on the field??  It is admirable that you came back for your teammates, but at some point you have to think about the next 40 years of your life and the quality of them.

Third if you are that limited back there could T-Jack do a better job now? Shouldn't  you be up front let the Vikings know so they can  trade for another QB (ie Vick) and step aside?

Side note: Before the bashing starting I want to let you know that I am STILL a Favre fan and I will be wearing my Favre (Packers not Vikings) to work.

Acme Packing Company Vikings Are Working Out Javon Walker. To replace Percy Harvin??

I know this isn't really Packer news anymore however.......but this makes me think the Percy Harvin  situation is more serious than the Vikings are letting on.

Adam Schefter reports that the Vikings have brought in yet another wide receiver to work out…and he’s someone Brett Favre is very, very familiar with.

No, Bus Cook is not getting a tryout with the Vikings.  Though I have to admit that would be hilarious.

Actually, the guy getting the work-out today is none other than former Packer and Favre teammate Javon Walker.

When last we saw Mr. Walker, he was warming the bench in Oakland.  In his two years there, he caught only 15 balls.  To find his last decent season, you have to go back to 2006 with Denver, when he caught 69 passes for 1,084 yards.

Of course, Walker’s greatest year was in 2004 as a member of the Packers, when Favre threw to him 89 times for 1,382 yards and 12 TDs.

Now, at age 31 – is that all he is? – Walker is hoping for one more chance, with a team that boasts a Hall-of-Fame quarterback and a receiver corps that’s falling apart faster than a Gob Bluth magic show.

Daily Norseman Thoughts on Favre "Retirement"

Lets start off this by saying I will believe Favre is retired when he hands in the paperwork for retirement to the NFL until than Brett is Brett and there will ALWAYS be a chance he is coming back.

Now that is that out of the way...Clearly the texts to some of his teammates about his retirement IS TRUE. This was confirmed by players and by the Vikings themselves when they offered him 20 million not 13 million to play this season. (by the way Vikings fans should be happy with their management team and their hunger for a superbowl ring..Ziggy is doing the right thing) Plus there have been reports posted that Favre's ankle is no better now post surgery than it was pre surgery. This was the main element that was keeping Favre from returning for another run this season.

Do I think his ankle will keep him from playing even if his ankle is still "bad"? That is a 50/50, we are talking about Brett Favre here. I would like to see him come back  for at least the Saints game.  I have not doubt that T-Jack has gotten better learning a year from Brett however......this game will lose some of its shine for me if all the marquee player are not  on the field. It was a hell of dogfight the first time and I can't wait to see the rematch!

PS: Is there a drop dead date that players can't comeback after? Everyone is using Oct 9th as the day they would believe Favre is retired why?

Acme Packing Company Monday Morning QB poll

Curious, now that we all know that we could have gotten another three good years from Brett Favre and that Aaron Rodgers is the stud QB that Old Man Teddy thought he was......do you still think the right decision was made letting Favre walk?

If you would keep Favre let me know what you would do with Rodgers....I don't think he would have still been here riding the pines after his rookie contract was up. Maybe he'd be with the Jets or Bears or be the QB of the future with the Vikings, (yikes!)

Knowing all the facts I still like what was done. (I don't like the way it was done though) My only regret is that Favre could have played his entire NFL career in Green Bay it would have been nice, but that's not enough to change my mind on the matter.

Acme Packing Company Here is your sure sign Favre is coming back

Favre hits the field with Miss. high school team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP)—Brett Favre(notes) is back—at Oak Grove High School.

Oak Grove coach Nevil Barr said the Minnesota Vikings quarterback has started throwing the ball at practice with the Oak Grove receivers—something he’s done the past few seasons.

“(Favre) has been hit-and-miss with coming to practice,” Barr said. “But lately he’s been there about every time we go out. Most of the time he doesn’t stay for the whole practice, but he usually drops by for at least an hour or so.”

The three-time NFL MVP is considering returning to the Vikings for a 20th NL season after leading Minnesota to the NFC championship game last season. He threw for 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in one of his best seasons, but the Vikings lost 31-28 to the Saints after Favre threw an interception while scrambling as time ran down.

Favre did not return a phone message left Thursday afternoon.

The 40-year-old quarterback has not told the Vikings whether he will return, but the first sign he is considering it came in May when he had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle to remove scar tissue and bone spurs.

Barr said Favre seems to be enjoying working out with the players, but he can tell he’s also trying to stay in shape.

“I think it’s a combination of both,” Barr said. “He enjoys helping them and teaching them about football. He enjoys being around the kids and they enjoy having him around.”

The Vikings have said they will give Favre all the time he needs to make a decision. He’s due a salary of $13 million if he returns.

Barr thinks his decision will be more about his desire than his ankle or arm.

“He can still throw it,” Barr said. “There shouldn’t be any question about whether he can still sling it, because he can

Acme Packing Company Who will replace the Vikings in the NFC North?

It's better than a fifty-fifty chance the Vikings will become the LA Vikings in the next couple of years. Who do you think they will move into their slot in the North? Clearly the Rams are the front runner for this bump to the North, the Rams in the NFC West as dumb is as the Cowboys in the NFC East.

For those of you wondering the why I think the Vikings will be in LA, its not too hard to figure out....The Raiders just re-upped in Oakland till 2013,

The Rams just came from LA  in 95 they can't be going back again can they?? Plus in St. Louis, minority owner Stan Kroenke said in April he wanted to keep the team in St. Louis, quelling rumors the team would return to L.A. Majority owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez – children of late owner Georgia Frontiere – have been trying to sell the team and  Kroenke has interest in buying them out, he already owns  the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets.

The Jags are losing money like it is going out of style in Florida however  these types of comments from the front office makes me think that they are staying in Jacksonville, despite having a losing team and struggling to fill the stadium, Jaguars officials said they are committed to the city.

The team and owner Wayne Weaver have had no recent contact with the Roski or any of his representatives, team spokesman Dan Edwards said.   We’re continuing to sell at a steady pace and are optimistic for the upcoming season," he said. Plus the jags are still locked into their lease for a few years longer than the Vikings.

The 49ers are out of the running, they just got a new stadium deal done it will built by the 2014 season

The Chargers are still in the mix for the move however a source close to the situation claims that the ownership is committed to keeping The Chargers put and they are using LA as leverage for a new stadium and do not want to move.

The Bills were also mentioned (thanks Jabooty)  as team that is targeted for the move to LA. The only statement I can find on this on is from  U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer echoed after John Semcken, the vice president of Majestic Realty, said that he and his group were targeting the Bills for a move to Los Angeles. Schumer said he spoke with Bills owner Ralph Wilson and that Wilson had no plans of moving the team. "The Bills are part of the very fabric of Western New York, and in Western New York they will stay," Schumer said in a statement. "Ralph Wilson is committed to Western New York, has had no contact with any purported suitors, and flatly told me that the Bills are staying in Buffalo."

Now here is the Vikings situation

In Minnesota, the Vikings have said they must line up funding for a new stadium in the state’s next legislative year. The team for years has been trying to find a new home in Minnesota.

"Having an NFL team in Minnesota requires a stadium solution," the team said in May in a written statement. "This solution must be finalized in the 2011 Session."

The team’s lease to play in the Metrodome, one of the oldest and smallest venues in the NFL, runs through the 2011 season. And the team has said there will be no extension until a stadium deal is in place.

To make matters worse, the state’s economic outlook appears bleak and the governors office seems to careless if the team stays or goes.

Plus every video or picture of the new stadium has a purple color scheme. (I'm not saying, I'm just saying you know)

Here is link to the Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV3fz-OeALk

All of these facts could mean a hill beans and I could be wrong however the NFL is committed to getting football back in LA and the Minn. government seems committed to not listening to the people and letting the Vikings leave.

Acme Packing Company Packer named in assult case Brandon Underwood.

Here is the quick blurb I got on Twitter this morning fromPro football talk.

Other sources claim he admitted to sexual contact.

ProFootballTalk    And unnamed Packer is named -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that it is Brandon Underwood. via web

Packers player admits sexual contact, claims there was consent Posted by Mike Florio on June 5, 2010 8:04 PM ET

The still-unnamed member of the Green Bay Packers who is under investigation for sexual assault reportedly has admitted having sexual contact with the alleged victims.  (Yes, victims.)  However, the player claims that the contact with the two women was consensual, according to Charles Davis of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The women claim there was no consent.  The women also initially claimed that more than one player was involved.  Police interviewed seven Packers; six of them are not suspected of criminal misconduct.

Acme Packing Company UFL targets Ahman Green

Here is some Ahman Green news.....I don't know if I like it or not. I don't want him to injure himself for the rest of his life on some 3rd rate pay scale in the UFL however.....I like the fact that he can do what he loves.

Posted by Mike Florio on May 31, 2010 10:57 PM ET With a former NFL star runningback reportedly planning to play for the coach who helped him become a star in Minnesota, a former NFL star running back could be heading back to the state where his college career flourished.

The Omaha World-Herald recently reported that the UFL is targeting running back Ahman Green.

Green, who would join the Omaha Nighthawks, played at the University of Nebraska before joining the Seahawks and thereafter becoming one of the best running backs in the league at Green Bay.

"It looks promising, but I'm just waiting still, keeping my options open," Green said.  "For me, it's not a fallback plan at all.  I want to play football.  The Omaha team would be a great fit."

It's part of an effort by UFL personnel exec Rick Mueller to target players with local ties to the Nighthawks, who are becoming the fifth wheel on the four-team league that debuted in 2009.

Acme Packing Company Judge Rules Vikings' Williams Wall Must Serve Suspensions

Here is some news the will affect the outcome of the NFC North this year!!

[ed. note from Brandon: This is a great post, and the only article I found anywhere on the web that actually discussed how the absence of DT Kevin Williams and DT Pat Williams would actually effect the Vikings on the field. However, the players intend to appeal, so I'd be surprised if this already two year old case is resolved in 2010. They might not serve their suspension until their ready to retire from the NFL.]

A long, winding legal battle over four-game suspensions took another turn Thursday.

A Minnesota judge ruled that Minnesota Vikings defensive tackles Pat (No. 94) and Kevin Williams must serve four-game suspensions for violating the NFL's policy on banned substances.

Came across this online from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and was wondering if anybody thought Chilly was active in these talks?

Also if so what would be the cost?

The Steelers have fielded phone calls about Ben Roethlisberger and have not ruled out a trade, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gary Dulac.

This wouldn't be a straight dump like the Santonio Holmes trade. Though the Steelers are not "actively" shopping Big Ben, the Rooney family would give the green light on a trade if the right offer comes along. Until recently it seemed unlikely that Roethlisberger would be dealt, but the tide has turned against him in Pittsburgh. It would no longer surprise us to see Big Ben in another uniform.

Daily Norseman Funny Joke fanpost found on Hog Heaven

Brett Farve still unaware the father of his grandchild is Aaron Rogers

Brett Favre has confirmed that his daughter, Brittany, recently gave birth to a son, making him a grandfather for the first time. But what the 40-year-old quarterback apparently does not know is that the father of his unmarried daughter's child is his former backup in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers. "It's true," said one of Brittany's friends. "They met when her dad was still in Green Bay, and they hook up from time to time. Britt doesn't have the heart to tell Brett." Rodgers also confirmed it's true. "Oh, yeah. Definitely," he said offering a high-five to everyone in the room. "I knocked up Favre's little girl. That's my baby. Suck it, Brett. I hope it looks exactly like me, beard and everything. And I can't wait until he watches the sex tape of us that I sent him that I titled 'Favre Highlights.'"

Again folks just a joke fan post (got it from the Onion??) just thought you would enjoy it.

Acme Packing Company Alex Barron??

I don't know squat about this guy but I know we need some O-line help would Alex Barron be worth signing??

By offering offensive tackle Alex Barron up to the league for just a second round draft pick, the St. Louis Rams made it clear they were willing to trade the restricted free agent. The problem for St. Louis is that no one seems interested in even that low price for an offensive tackle. Barron has not participated in the Rams' offseason workouts, probably hoping that he will be traded to another team. However, if Barron isn't with a new team by April 15th, the deadline for restricted free agents to sign with new teams, he'll be back with the Rams, the team that wanted to give him away.

Daily Norseman Draft QB of the future this year

Ran across this online and thought of the Vikings since they have the least amount of holes to fill in the NFC........is this a good way to get a stud QB for the Vikes??

Lions ready to make a deal

While few are aware of Detroit's action plan, the NFL Network's Gil Brandt, believes the Lions want to acquire at least one extra pick. "They hope that somebody is looking for a quarterback and they can pick up an extra choice or two extra choices." The key to Brandt's thinking is the defensive tackle position. Most experts expect the Lions to pick either one of two tackles: Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh or Oklahoma's Gerald McCoy. But with an extremely deep class at that position -- draft expert Mike Mayock said as many as 13 may be picked in the first three rounds -- Brandt says the Lions could get a good player a little later in the first round and still pick up a good defensive tackle.

Daily Norseman Knowledgable fans on Daily Norseman

I just wanted to write a post to thank all of the Vikings fans on the Daily Norseman site.  I have tried previously to find Vikings fan on other sites to have an intelligent conversations with about the NFC North and the Vikings/Packers. Alas all I got were what seemed to be 13yr olds on their parents computer. However it seems to be different here there is no "my dad can beat up your dad" fans on this site.  Even the Packers symbol made to look like a wheelchair is witty and funny.

So thanks for being loyal, intelligent , and mature Vikings fans that I can have great NFC North discussions with and have a Happy Easter!!

Acme Packing Company Glanville finally confirms he had Favre trade

Jerry Glanville now is admitting he's the one who traded Brett Favre out of Atlanta.Back in the mid-to-late 1990s, the former Falcons coach said former Falcons General Manager Ken Herock was the mover behind tradng Favre back in 1992. Herock always maintained it was Glanville who wanted to get rid of Favre. In more recent years, Glanville has talked about Favre's excessive drinking in his one year with the Falcons but has not directly said he wanted to trade him.But in a recent radio interview with WNSR in Nashville, via a post on ProFootballTalk.com, Glanville said he had Favre traded after his rookie season."I had to get him out of Atlanta. ... I could not sober him up," Glanville said. "I sent him to a city where at 9:00 at night the only thing that's open is Chili Joes. You can get it two ways, with or without onions. And that's what made Brett Favre make a comeback was going to a town that closed down. If I would have traded him to New York, nobody to this day would have known who Brett Favre ever was."

I know copy and pasting is a cheap way to make a post however...........the content warrants it is done so everyone could read it. The "....I could not sober him up" quote jumped out at me.

Thoughts??

Acme Packing Company Packers 3rd Jerseys :-(

For those of you who have seen the "new" Packers 3rd Jerseys let me know you think.

I was hoping to add a Clay Matthews Jersey to my collection and hoping the 3rd would be cool so I get something different. Well I should have not waited and just bought a home jersey like I wanted to.

Is anyone out there gonna run out and by one of these??  There is a reason we have not seen these things since the 30's.

Windy City Gridiron Looking for Bears fans Opinions

Obviously you HAVE TO be happy with Bears off season moves so far.......but do you still want to go after a QB? (ie Vick or McNabb) Or do you think Jay Cutler has the stuff to take the team all the way? Do you think the Bears gave up too much for him? Or is it just an O-line problem? Like the Packers clearly have :-(

Comments please,

Thanks in advance for your opinions Bears Fans!
