Cubs management seems content to wait things out. Wait for what? Are they planning on introducing a bunch of Derrek Lee clones once he returns? I can buy the fact that they don't want to fire Duhsty mid-season. But there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for keeping the hitting coaches employed. What are they doing specifically to help these numbers improve? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Any team with competent management would have jettisoned this regime long ago, but nooooooo, let's continue to blame all our problems on ONE injury, the sun, the fans, the field, the wind, the media... whatever isn't the actual managers, coaches, and players.

Just watching BT from Chicago tonight, Gammons reiterated that the Cubs are dead last in OBP in the NL out of the 1-2 spots and as we all know, we have basically wasted an MVP year from Derrek Lee. This team could be 15 games under if Lee didn't go nuts for the first 3 months.

What about this guy?

AVG: .275
OBP: .342
SB: 12
SLG: .391
SO: 53
BB: 37

He's been playing left in Seattle and hitting second behind Ichiro, but he very well could lead off if so inclined. He has very little power (6 HRs) but his OBP is decent and he doesn't strike out much. Switch hitter too.
