Royals Review OT: RRFBKLYr 4 wants you...

Since the billionaires and the millionaires are 99 per cent sure that they can get a deal done so that we can have NFL football in the fall.  I need to get the best fantasy keeper league ever filled.  I need new managers to rescue three orphaned teams and two owners to take on our new expansion teams.  If you have the time and the knowledge of the game then this is the league for you.  You will go head to head with the likes of AxDxMx, NYRoyal, Raef, Mean Joe Marbot, Sisquatch, and the 2010 champion Average Gatsby, each and every week of the season.  You must list an email address and give me a phone number to join the league.  If you think you are tough enough to play in the league then click on Grudz96 and email me that you are interested.  Don't wait, we had 16 people interested in getting one of four spots in our baseball league and I am sure that it will be the same for these too.  Are you tough enough???

Royals Review OT: Royals Review Keeper League Yr 3: Congrats to NYRoyal

2010 was the toughest year yet in the RRKL Fantasy Baseball league.  11 teams finished with above .500 records.  Six teams had a legitimate shot during the last week to take the final playoff spot in the championships.  Sisquatch Kids made a great run at the title only to be stopped by NYRoyal in the championship game.  Congratulations to NYRoyal for taking it all.  As ADM commented in the playoffs winning or losing hinged on whether you started a marginal pitcher or not.  Thumbs up to all the managers who participated and stuck it out until the end.  The last month was a killer with games being decided by a point or two.  Yours truly finished eleventh and had a 122-116-14 record.   The Winter Baseball Meetings will start in December and I am sure that all the returning managers are looking forward to the start of Year 4 of this tough hard core league.

We do have several orphaned teams for this next season.  If you think you are good enough to compete against the likes of NYRoyal, AxDxMx, Raef, Marbot, JQ, Sisquatch, and other RR regulars then send me an email.  My email is on my profile.  The deadline will be November 30, 2010.

The Final Standings are below:

*1.   NYRoyal 138-93-21
*2.   Sisquatch Kids 128-108-16
*3.   AxDxMx Buttheads 138-96-18
*4.   Raef Slugger Hotdogs 140-87-25

Royals Review When revisited...

Here are the results of a poll that I posted awhile back.

When will the Royals win their 60th game? 5% 1. August 15th 4 votes 21% 2. Sept. 1st 16 votes 44% 3. Sept 15th 33 votes 5% 4. Sept. 30th 4 votes 22% Not this year, Baby.... 17 votes

We now have 30 days to win 12 games to make the results of the above come true.  Can the Royals do it?  The bigger problem is that we have to win 15 of the remaining 45 games to not have another 100 game losing season.  Can we do that?   It seems yet again the Royal's fans have been hosted to another weak kneed season of lousy contracts, over aged players, questionable trades, and trusting in a process that is doomed.  At least with Pittsburgh they knew enough to bring up the young studs and let them play.   As Cub's fans say... "there is always next year."

Royals Review WHEN????

 60 wins!!!!

When will our Royals win their 60th game of the season?   2010 is going down the toilet rapidly.  When will Ned Yost manage this team to respectability or will we see another 100 plus losing season.  In some ways I feel this could be our best team since 2003.  Then again this could be the worse team we have ever had.  Which is it?  Either way, we need to pack it in and start bringing up the kids.  The process is on its last leg and the buzzards are starting to circle the dead body.

Royals Review OT: Football season is just around the corner.

The RoyalsReview Football Keeper League is looking for four experienced managers for the 2010 season.  This is the third year for this hardcore group.   They are tough and play to win no matter where they are in the standings.  If you want competition with no quitters involved then this is your league.  6 keepers each year and the champion gets the option of adding one keeper for the next season.  Managers must have an email listed and provide the commissioner with an alternate email and phone number before the start of the season.  Where else do you get a chance to beat the socks off of NYRoyal, AxDxMx, and Mean Joe Marbot plus a cast of others.  Email me with you application.  You don't have to be a champion just someone who is there at the draft and is still fighting at the last game.  The deadline is August 8th.  Lets play some football....  Grudz

Royals Review Iowa State 89 #5 Kansas State 85 in OT

Nobody mentioned this stunning defeat of a ranked team by the Clones.  The pundits have been badgering the coaching staff for never having beaten a ranked team or won a road game this season.  Now they can shut up and find something else to complain about.  It was a good win and the Clones have a slight momentum going into the Big12 tournament.  Do I think they are going anywhere but back to the practice gym after Kansas City, no.  A win is a win and we will take this one to the bank.

Royals Review OT: Holiday questionaire....

I am setting here with my Christmas Eve scotch and water in hand.  I have spent the day cooking, cleaning, and finishing the wrapping of presents.  Christmas day two of my children and their families will descend on my home and the fun and craziness will start.  I am going to spend tonight with a BLT and christmas cookies...oh ya, and scotch.  I will be watching "The Natural" and then turn in early.  We old men need our sleep...right Buddyball.  So, what is the RR crew doing tonight and for the next 10 days.

1. What are you doing for Christmas?

2. What was the best Christmas present you received under the age of 21?

Royals Review Are you good enough?

The RRKLYr3 fantasy baseball league needs one more new manager to take over an orphaned team.  This is a 20 team keeper league that is based on Yahoo.  15 teams returned from last season's tough competition.  Going into the last week of the season 12 teams were still in the hunt for a playoff spot.  This is a very hardcore league.  If you need any advise about getting into the league email AxDxMx, NYRoyal, Marbotty, and or the 2009 winner Focs.

One spot and it will be given to the first new manager that emails me.  Do it now!  Winter Meetings, via email, will start the first week of December.  Email me...  You had better be competitive all season because you do not want to piss this group off.  Email me...

Royals Review Winter League Updates #2

Today the Surprise Rafters face Steve Strasburg.  This will be Stevies first outing since his "fall from grace" performance.  8 earned runs in three innings proves he is human.  I am hoping that Mous and Bianchi can make it two bad starts in a row.

Check out the updated stats below:  Why is it that both Duarte and Lisson look so good in the off season but when they get to the Royals farm teams they flopped like a dying fish.  Bianchi is still having a pretty good fall season with the bat.  It would be nice to see some more power from him.  Hartsock and Sisk are putting up some good numbers and hopefully will be given a shot to make the Royals bullpen next season.

Royals Review OT: Iowa State - 9 Nebraska - 7 in Lincoln...

Okay, the Huskers did have 8 turnovers but the Cyclones were playing with a backup QB and a backup RB.  Our Def. looked better than they ever have.  I smell a bowl game in our future.  Go Clones...  we made some Husker fans cry today.  1977 was the last time we beat them in Lincoln.   The victory scotch is flowing and I am headed to the neighbors for more.    Go Clones.....  Take that Gene Chizek... we now have won 5 games and you did that in two years.  Auburn can have the likes of you and I hope they aren't planning on you staying there to long.   Go Clones....

Royals Review Winter Leagues Update... Royals

We can all breathe a sigh of relief because Washington's number 1 pick in the draft is human.  Strass pitched a terrible game giving up his first two homers this fall in one inning.  Now we will see just how well he can come back and compete after a disasterous start.  Wood pitched 4 innings of shutout ball tonight and Sisk followed that up with another scoreless inning in relief.  Sisk and Hartsock shouldn't spend too much time in Omaha with the shape of our bullpen.  Keep an eye on the Rangers rookie Moreland.  He looks to be as good as Smoak if not better.  Remember Smoak is the player we passed up to take Hosey (with glasses).

Here are the winter league stats so far for the Royals:

Royals Review Arizona Fall League...

The Surprise Rafters are out to an unusually good start at 4-1.  Mousetaco has brought his bat with him to the desert and is having some early success.  Here are the early stats...  Bianchi had better get the sun out of his eyes and start putting the bat on the ball.  Our pitchers are looking like all relievers which maybe is a good thing for our pitiful bullpen next season.  Danny G. are recent download to another team seems to have righted the ship and looks good early.

Royals Review RRFBKL YR.2 Fantasy Season ends

Congrats to Focs for winning the Championship and to NYRoyal for winning the regular season title.

Thanks, everyone for making this a very competitive league. The race for the playoffs came down to the final day and at least 14 teams were in the heat of the battle up until the last several weeks. Great Job...

The deadline for registering your teams for the 2010 season and for naming your (6) six keepers is November 8, 2009. Please email the above information to me by that date. All teams not registered by that date will be considered Orphaned. Winter Meetings will start on December 1, 2009 via email. Next seasons draft will be around March 20, 2010.

Any persons interested in managing a new team next season should email me by November 8.  Orphaned teams will be assigned by a random drawing.

Again, it was a great season and as the commissioner, I thank all of you for your support through out the season.

Royals Review 3 in 11...

As of Aug. 20th our victory total stands at 47.  Since today is an off day and we can't win or thank god lose that gives us 11 more days to try and win three games.  If we don't succeed we will go into the last month of the season with a good shot of not winning 60 games in 2009.  When or if we meet that apocalyptic goal will this become the worse team in the last five years of the Royal's futile history?

    Royals Review Call me Crazy....

but that was a ass kicking ugly game today.  The Royals looked like they would have had a hard time beating the 2005 version of this franchise.   Why not dump the marginal players and bring up the rookies.  Why not?????

The Orioles have overhauled the starting rotation and their bullpen with rookies.  The brought up a rookie outfielder who is now in the running for ALROY.  In fact they have used 16 different minor leaguers this season thus far.  Oh, did I mention that they have a better record than we do.   Our hated rivals, the Cards, have use 17 different players from the minors and they are battling for the division title even with Wellmeyer in the rotation.  I just watched the Cubs vs Reds game and the one thing that Lou does that I really like is to use his AAA team like a taxi squad.  The ICub players seemed to be on free bus passes to Wrigley field.  Did I mention that the Cubs are in the race for central division crown and that the ICubs have a better record than Omaha.  Why not the Royals????

We are never going to know if Rosa can be in a major league bullpen until he pitches here for more than a week.  He has to be better than Tejada.  Put Logue in leftfield and Maier in centerfield and let them start the rest of the season.  Can it be worse than what we saw today and the past month.  Why is Bruce Chen up here while Lenny DiNardo is 7-4 and still in AAA????  Use the minor leagues before we go out and sign more players off the slag heaps of other teams cast offs.   Kia, Holland, Mertins, Lubanski.... they all deserve a shot and this season is going nowhere fast so why not bring them up.  Dump or trade some of these guys and bring up the rookies.  Watching young gritty scrappers would be a hell of a lot better than what we saw today.

Hillfire and Dancing in the Dark Dayton, you are starting to remind me of the Royals bosses of old.  I am starting to have visions of Fuddo the Clown's ghost returning to the dugout.  Get the sunflower seeds ready.  Do something and do it quickly the off season is rapidly approaching and so is another 100+ game losing season.   It is great to look down the road and develop talent slowly but at least put a team on the field that is fun to watch and has a chance of winning.  That is not what we saw today.  Today was just SAD!!!!

Royals Review Two years ago I posted this poll

I never thought I would have to post it again.  I thought we had turned a corner and even though we may not contend in the division that we would have a chance at a .500 season for a couple of years.   It is sad that we have fallen apart so quickly and completely.  Bruce Chen and Sidney are  in the same league as  Redman, Elerton, May, and Runny.  I truly thought we were better than that now.  I understand injuries happen and that some trades don't work out the way we wanted.  This year it has been everything...every single thing... that hasn't worked out.  The one bright spot is Grienke.  So, here is the poll.

Royals Review Only two more months to go!!!!!

In the RR Keeper League YR2 the season is just heating up.  NYRoyal and Focs are battling it out for the top spot.   The Crush and Raef are only a great week behind.  8 games divides the 5th spot with #14.  We have a couple of teams that seem to have given up, but surprisingly this has been a very competitive league.  On any given week any team can be beat.

I hope everyone is having a good time.  I have no idea how I am in 6th place.  I have socks older than most of my pitchers and there have been weeks that my roster looked like a mash unit.  I am hoping that I can hang on long enough to make the playoffs.  This week I am in a fight for my family jewels with Mr. Daddy.  May the best team win.

    Good luck fellow managers...

Royals Review ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

The All Star break is here and the baseball season is just past the halfway point and still there is a lot of summer yet to go.  I was hoping that at this point the Royals would be five games in front of the Central Division.  I am doubtful that is going to happen.    With a big sigh, I will again wait for next year.  Yahoo has the fantasy leagues ready to go and I have a break between all the grand kids softball, soccer, AAU basketball, and swimming competitions to get this done.  Lets get this party started.

Last season we discussed a keeper league so I have created one with all the same settings as we had last year.  I have it set up with 10 teams.  If there is enough interest it can be expanded.  The draft will not be until August 15th so we have some time to discuss any changes we might want to make.  The league's name is: RRFBKLYR1.

I have also created a totally fun league with no commitments and I hopefully a high level of entertainment.  This will have an auto draft on August 16th.  I have set it up as a 10 team league but that too can be expanded.  All you have to do is sign up and rank your players and you are done until the season starts.  Simple, right?   The name of the fun league is: RR's PowderBlue League

Here is the Keeper League's sign up info:

    League ID#: 203524
    Password: blue

Here is the Fun League's info:

    League ID#: 203610
    Password: blue

Good Luck and if you have questions just drop me an email.  Grudz...

Royals Review Two down and four to go!!!!

The Royal Review Fantasy Baseball Keeper League has completed the first two months of it's inaugural season.   With all the discussion before the draft about the new teams having an unfair advantage and that the real life draft order would weaken the league's winning teams, the standings prove all of that wrong.   Leading the way is the maniacal Marbot Crush returning from his 7th place finish of last season.  Focs is 5.5 games back in second place (first pick in the draft.)    Mr Daddy is in 3rd followed by NYRoyal and his revolving door team in 4th.  They are 7 and 7.5 games back of the Crush.  One new team in the top 4 does seem to validate the draft type and order.  From 5th to 20th only 11 games seperate the teams in the win column.  So, I think it is safe to say that we have parity in this league.   Now if someone could crush that MC Hammer team we could all breathe a little easier.  I hope all the managers are enjoying the league and will stay active throughout the remainder of the season.   Suggestions for next season would be to expand the rosters to 25 players so a team could pick up rookies before the come up to the bigs.  Also, we may put a cap on the number of moves a team could make in a season.  If you have any other ideas just let me know.  Good luck ... and remember for summer fun...Crush the Crush....

Royals Review REMINDER: RRKL YR2 draft is this Saturday.

This is a reminder to all the managers that the RRKL YR2 draft  is Saturday, March 21st at 8 pm CT.   You should be at the draft no later that 10 minutes prior to the start time.  If there is any chance you may not be able to be online during the draft please prerank your players.  The keepers are listed below by team.  You will have to do your own draftsheet as Yahoo doesn't handle that yet.  I will be there to disqualify any picks of players that our on the above keeper list.  The first six rounds will consist of the new managers making their first six picks and then each original manager's keepers will be listed in the last part of the first six rounds of the draft.  On the seventh round everyone will start to draft the remaining free agents.  This is how the yahoo keeper system works.  I have locked down the teams so nothing will be able to be changed until the draft concludes.

I have my fingers crossed that the draft will go well and that the season will be fun and entertaining for everyone.  Good luck and Go Royals...

    Royals Review UNI Baseball

The team and their supporters are giving it the old college try to raise $1,200,000.00  before April 12th, 2009.  They have created a website to take pledges towards this total.  http://supportunibaseball.com/  If you have a few spare coins rolling around in your pocket and want to help them out go online and make a pledge.  Keep college baseball alive...  if we could lose baseball at UNI we could lose it anywhere.

Royals Review In defense of Gordon...

Even though it was far below zero, I decided to go down to Des Moines and see the Royals Caravan when it was at the West Des Moines HyVee.  It was cold as hell out but that didn't stop some diehard Royals fans from coming out to see the players.  It was not a big turnout and I thought it would be canceled.  For some unknown reason HyVee stuck the Royal's table up front of the store by the doors so everytime they opened the Royals got a blast of Iowa winter in their faces.  I was in line about 20 minutes and got Gordon's signature and even got to talk to him for a litte while.  He was pleasant enough and we talked about Nebraska and the College World Series.  He said he felt better about this year's team but said that the division improved and would be tougher this year.  After that I went into the cafe for coffee.  When I came out Gordon was laughing and joking with three boys about 9 or 10 years old and their dad.  He signed each kids poster, their hats, and the one kid's Gordon jersey.  About 30 minutes later they packed up and headed south.

From what I saw if he were going to be the usual jock asshole that would have been the perfect time to do it.  Anyone who travels in weather like that and gets blasted by the cold for several hours to sign a few autographs is okay in my book.

Royals Review OT: What did you get for Christmas?

Did Santa come through for you this Christmas?  Did that special someone in your life deliver with presents?  Or, did you end up with a tie, sweater, or socks?

Santa (me) splurged this Christmas and replaced my computer, stove, and refridgerator.  They said consumers should spend and I took advantage of some very good sale prices.  My kids and grandkids surprised me with upgrades to my newly purchased computer.  I now have an huge flat screen monitor to save my aging eyes and the maximum memory to let me make mistakes at warped speed.  Oh, and I now have a turtle compliments of my 6 year old grandson.  We named him Buddy, because he eats things one at a time just like his namesake Mr. Bell.  I think there is a strong family resemblance.

Remember to include part of your RR screen name in the name of your team.  This makes it easier to hassle anyone who isn't keeping up with their managing duties and to construct voodoo dolls for the leaders.  The Royal rule does not apply to this league.   Since this is a big league with large rosters, I would suggest a little bit of homework be done before the 21st.

I will post the Yahoo league ID and password as soon as the Yahoo Baseball season starts.  Good luck to all in the upcoming draft and season.

Royals Review Royal Review Fantasy Football League:

I agree with all the things that have been said about the Keeper League.  The selfish bastard in me hates to give up the likes of Peterson, Jackson, and Turner.  They are three good running backs to draw too.  BUT... I think the best way to do this is to wait till the start of next season and declare a Keeper League then.  We can hash out the scoring and settings then too.  We can have a smaller keeper league and then another league for those RR's that just wish to have a team in a regular league.

I will check back in July or August to start the process of forming the leagues.  I hope everybody is having a good start to the new year.

Royals Review RR Keeper Fantasy football league

Tell me what you want....  So far we have each 2008 team keeping four players.  Other than that it is wide open.  An email has been sent to all managers and a Jan. 14, 2009 deadline has been set to post your keepers.  Now we need to decide on scoring and settings.   Let me hear you!!!!!
