We've already touched on this article in a rouge FanPost. This is the proper FanShot. Welgarz actually burned the previous FanPost to the ground while pillaging, which is how he walks around.

Nice little writeup in The Hardball Times about everyone's favorite Viking Plunder cum LF/1B/DH.

http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/hitting-prospects-to-watch-in-2008/

Not a whole lot of new insights, but some nice swing comparison videos, pre/post draft. Nice to see Little Nicki getting some dap from some of the non-Indians evaluators out there.

Your FanPost must be at least 75
words long. Right now it's only 62 words long.

MLB.tv Problems?

So, my MLB.tv has been borderline unwatchable. I've got the cheapest version and the video is super choppy. The audio seems to be working ok/sync'd up well enough, but I can barely watch it! I've got a cable modem and the rest of my interwebs are working super.

Does any of the other MLB.tv users out there have any tips to help me tune this badboy so I can watch the games without the herky-jerkies?

Clemens by the Numbers

Listen, I hate Clemens more than anybody, but after reading this, I think I have to say that the guy is clean.

http://www.sabernomics.com/sabernomics/index.php/2008/01/what-do-the-statistics-say-about-roger-clem enss-steroid-use/

When taken in the context of the league and his overall best-fit career progression, it looks like the guy really was just in exceptional shape.

Overuse Effect

This diaray contains no Jason Bay/Ipecac Content

Cool article on Hardball Times today about bullpen pitcher use. It presents a pretty rigorous study of high-use/low-use pitchers and their subsequent performance in the next season.

Link: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/does-reliever-over-use-lead-to-poor-subsequent-performance /

Conclusion:

There was no marked difference between high-use bullpen relievers and low-use bullpen relievers in subsequent years; however:

Pitchers that pitched a large number of innings at a low ERA suffered a regression to league average (almost 0.5 run)

Pitchers that pitched a low number of innings and sucked, still sucked in subsequent years.

Nothing earth shattering, but interesting enough given the incredible performance of CLE's bullpen last year.

Takeaways:
Raffy-B will probably suffer the mean regression.
JoBo can't possibly post that ERA again.

PitchF/X Tool

Take a look at what's going on with the new PitchF/X Web Tool: http://baseball.bornbybits.com/php/combined_tool.php

While it doesn't have a whole lot of data for the Indians, I figure we can at least draw some SSS conclusions. First of all, our favorite trading chip:

Cliff Lee

What can we see? Well, first of all, it's only 492 pitches (probably < 25% of his pitches), so, huge SSS warning, but it still looks like he's got pretty good stuff.

I don't think there's enough pitches to make any responsible conclusions, but I'm going to anyways:

He's throwing his FB 72% of the time. The curve 4%. FOUR!!! I thought the curve was his "out" pitch. This might explain why he didn't get many "outs."

The curve is a ball 50% of the time. Lackey's curve is 38%. He dosen't seem to be getting it over the damn plate.

I made this little SLG/Pitch stat to try to gauge how "hard" the opposing batters are hitting the pitches: (S + 2*2B + 3*3B +4*HR)/#Pitches.

- Cliff's slider, which he throws more than his curve, is getting TATOO'd to the tune of 20 whateverunits.

Also, why did I choose Lackey? Well, he was the first one to come to mind, so there.

Here's the link to the spreadsheet I used to make these broad, sweeping, probably incorrect conclusions.

Tejada?

What about Marte in left and Miggy Tejada at 3B?

Is this even a possibility? Can Marte play Left? I mean, Joey and Cecil Fielder used to play out there, so it's not like he could be THAT bad. Plus we're slated to have three groundball guys in the rotation. Marte to Left?

Miggy has 2 years left, $13m/year. While that's a big number, it's only for a couple of years. His bat and defense are an upgrade over Blake, and then Blake could play the role he's born to play, Super Duper Util guy. What would it take to get him from Baltimore?

Yankee Fans Reaction

Hey guys, I thought we needed a nice place to put all the excuses that your Yankee "friends" come up with today. So, let's see 'em below.

Oh, bonus points to anyone that actuallly gets a Yankee fan to acknowledge Jeter made 18 outs in 17 at bats.

So far, I've had:

Bugs, unquestionably

Shoppach HBP

Wang pitching. If Mussina would've started they somehow would've won the series.

All the "blow anti-yankee calls"
