The Vancouver Canucks 2011 - A Post Mortem

2.So another season is done without the Canucks winning the final game.  I was pretty depressed last night, and didn't get to sleep until 2:30 am (and I don't even live in Vancouver).

What exactly is meant by a 'north-south' hit? I'm having a discussion with a friend of mine, and...

What exactly is meant by a 'north-south' hit? I'm having a discussion with a friend of mine, and he states that this hit was okay, because it was still the two players heading towards each other. IE, 'north-south' is in relation to the player's motion. I always thought it was in reference to the rink directions (north-south) means up or down the length of the ice. The 3:00 mark of the NHL video discussing blindside hits seems to support my conjecture, but has anyone actually seen what the NHL means by 'north-south'?

Something I keep telling myself to stay sane after last night.

http://www.whowins.com/tables/up20.html Home Teams in the finals up 2-0 have won 94% of the time. Home Teams in any series up 2-0 have won 90% of the time. http://www.whowins.com/tables/up21.html Home Teams that are up in the finals 2-1 have won 94% of the time. Any team up in the finals 2-1 have won 85% of the time. Home teams in any series up 2-1 have won 76% of the time. Any team up in any series have won 70% of the time. Those are pretty good odds. Comebacks are obviously harder in the Finals because the teams are more likely to be evenly matched, and even a one game advantage by Game 3 is a huge advantage. Bottom line...Boston has to win 3 out of 4 to win.

Malhotra cleared to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evidence that the icing call was good. The puck did NOT hit Sedin. It changes direction right when it passes the stanchion, and doesn't change direction when it passes Sedin. The direction changes before it gets near Sedin.

Momentum in sports is bullshit.

For your reading pleasure before the coronary.

Another team that narrowly avoided choking.

+

From Kurtenblog...a reality check. It does make me wonder how often a team down 3-0 even made it close?

Just get guys like Fleury to shut up.

2

Just don't lose dammit. Don't prove asshats like Fleury right.

Can a norovirus explain Games 4 and 5?

Today, a post by hockeywidow indicated that some sort of virus is ravaging the Canucks dressing room, and that this explains the lack of effort and the apparent AHLing of the Presidents Trophy...

Scoreboard Watching this Weekend

Well, we knew that the Western Conference would be crazy to end the season and it is.  One game left for everyone but Vancouver still has _six_ teams they could face in the first round.

My Dream Stanley Cup Run (The Demon Exorcising Version)

4
  1. Round 1 - Chicago (preferably a sweep to end in Chicago)
  2. Round 2 - Anaheim
  3. Round 3 - Detroit
  4. Round 4 - New York Rangers

Tom Benjamin gets it exactly right.

The odds of the Canucks winning the Stanley Cup are not great. But they're still better than anyone else's.

Wherin I bitch about the sports media.

I was reading Gordon McIntyre's column today, but the more I read, the more I started tearing my hair out.

If the Canucks don't win the Cup it's not because they 'choked'.

The following is a comment I made on Spector's Soapbox, about the Canucks and the playoffs.

2010-11 Western Conference Prediction

So we're getting closer and closer to training camp, so I thought I'd prognosticate the standings for the Western Conference this year.  I'm not going to bother with the East, since I'm not nearly...

Despite claims to the contrary, the Canucks ARE close.

I subscribe to the Tom Benjamin theory of winning the Stanley Cup.  The only real way to do it, especially in the salary cap era, is to make sure your team can compete for it every year and then...

Yeah, this pretty much sums up how most of us feel.

Reasons to be optimistic

I know that most of us are pretty down after last night's game.  However, there are a few reasons to be optimistic, as Chicago does still have to win 2 more games.    1.  The Canucks really haven't...

The fallacy of 'rust' after sweeping.

There was much bellyaching in Vancouver about the long layoff since they swept the Blues...basically saying that the Canucks would be rusty.   So I ran the numbers since 1987, just looking at...
