I scoured the field for Newman in today's game -- I guess it didn't help that I was flipping back and forth trying to watch the Bronco's game at the same time, but I don't think I saw him make a single tackle or pass breakup the entire game. Where is Newman? The world waits..... If anybody saw the game and knew where he was, or what he was doing -- please reply and give me an update so I can get my weekly Newman fix! I thought he owed us a redemption after last week!

He's always one of my favorite players, but Jeezus -- He gave up like 4 HUGE plays tonight! I witnessed him give up 2 touchdowns, and a 40+ yard bomb along the sidelines. Looked like he fell down on 1 play.... I think I remember him being like this last year too when he came off of injury -- it always takes him a few games up get up to speed! Ugh.... Would have rather seen Pacman covering the edges this week.

My report from Invesco field last night...

I had great seats in the Club Level of Invesco last night for the Broncos / Cowboys game. Romo didn't have a great night at all, and it looked like the play calling was too conservative. The only deep route I saw run was that bomb to Sam Hurd that Romo overthrew. I was sad again to also see Felix Jones not get time with the 1st team, because when he finally did get onto the field he showed flashes of genius yet again -- But I'm sure he would tear it up with our 1st teamers. I wouldn't be shocked if this guy challenges Marion for the #1 position by end of the season. Danny Amendola got his first catch, which was great to see -- but the routes they were sending him on were these short 5 yd routes mostly and really dissapointing. With a guy like that who has amazing speed and route running ability, I would like to see him get sent on more post or go routes in the future -- where he can really show us what he can do. The defense was not good yet again, which has me wondering what exactly we gained by picking up so many CB's in the off season. Are these guys ever going to step up and play to their full ability? Rich Bartel proved to suck as hard as we all thought when he threw that pick in the final minutes. Some guys here are saying his receiver was at fault, but I am pretty sure he threw the ball directly to the defender.

That's all for now....

The Cowboys in Madden 2009

So I got my copy of Madden 2009 this morning and have been playing it all day as the Cowboys. Some big changes from last year! Some observations:

Offense:

First all all, I'll say that they really gave Felix Jones the credit he deserves and gave him some high ratings. He has explosive speed and acceleration when you need it, and he has the brains to make moves on his own if you aren't controlling him. Marion Barber feels very close to last year, as does TO. Stanback and Austin are practically useless. Cricket Anderson has great hands, and tackle breaking ability, and the ability to pick up short yardadge. Tashard Choice is ranked like a 67 -- and is horrible in the game... I think he's getting a raw deal on the ratings big time!

They've definitely taken something away from Crayton and Hurd this year, as I looked at their ratings and they were in the low 70's. Last year Crayton was a reliable receiver in the game, as he is in real life -- but this year I'm having trouble just squeezing the ball into him. Last year I could hit Hurd on a few routes, and this year he is almost impossible to throw to -- and is dead slow. Any time I've tried leading him with the ball, he does not have the speed or gears to get to it before it hits the ground.

Defense:

The defense is awesome this year with Zach Thomas being the tackling machine as advertised. Even though he doesn't have the best ratings, he is very effective in the game and able to even push some offensive linemen back. Mike Jenkins about the same as Anthony Henry was last year in the game, except with more speed and less tackling ability. Newman is still rated high, but I don't think he gets the credit he deserves for speed or ability. Scand is not ranked very high, but has a 95 speed -- so I guess they are assuming he has ability but no skill at this point in his rookie year. Ware is still awesome, and Ellis is still pretty slow and doesn't have enough strength to get to the QB on most plays (That's kind of surprising... i thought they would have fixed that from last year!) -- Also they've got Anthony Spencer ranked under 80 I believe, and his speed is only an 82 or something, which I find very hard to believe. I think Spencer is getting a raw deal in Madden again!

Welp, that's my 2 cents on the game -- talk amongst yourselves.

Amendola sounds like the real deal!

Everything you guys have said from training camp about this kid so far has sounded good. With Hurd also sounding great, and the rest -- It sounds like our receiver depth will not be too much a problem this year. I could seriously see Hurd having a breakout year, and Amendola sounds like he's doing very well already -- I hope he gets some playing time! I was sorry to see Terry Glenn have to go, but it's definitely exciting to see some of these younger guys coming up!

[UPDATE] I deleted a significant number of comments on this thread. They got personal, and I'm not interested in reading commentary where people attack each other, it's boring. I'm here to talk about Cowboys football and I think most of the other people are, too. Telling me how much smarter you are than another commenter or how good your predictions are or how bad the other guys are and all that other back and forth that only interests the three guys who were engaged in it doesn't really accomplish the goal of talking Cowboys football. This is a warning, if you can't talk to the other people on this board with respect - or at minimum with courtesy - then you won't be commenting here for long. Check yourselves, and if a lot of your comments were deleted, that should tell you something.

By the way, great thread hakrjak . I would say that Stanback has every physical tool to be a big time WR in this league, but it remains to be seen if he can start feeling natural at the position and really understanding the nuances of WR play. He needs to be more consistent, too. He can look great in practice then make mistakes. But Stanback will be on the team and will probably be #5. Amendola looks like a kid with a future. He's quick and elusive and he has good hands. He's been impressive in camp without a doubt. He reminds me of Sam Hurd in his first year, not physically, but someone who just comes to camp and starts catching the ball and making plays. He runs great routes and has a knack for getting open. If I had to make a decision on him right now, I would keep him as the 6th and worry about the numbers elsewhere. But fortunately, we get the preseason to watch him and make a further evaluation. Let's see what he does against live competition. And Stanback, too. [END UPDATE]

Will Williams be suspended for another horse-collar tackle?
Wednesday, Oct 10, 2007 8:24 am EDT

Getty Images
Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams, whose horse-collar tackles led to the NFL making them illegal, did it again Monday night and some are wondering if he deserves a suspension.

Williams, who has already been fined $12,500 for a horse-collar hit earlier this season, avoided a penalty but another fine appears a certainty and maybe a suspension?

Source: Profootballtalk.com

Related: , Dallas Cowboys

At the end of last night's MNF triumph, I noticed that the boys looked tired, sweaty, and exausted. They had worked harder than they have ever had to work so far this year, and it definitely took their toll. I saw guys like Terrance Newman, who would normally have been able to return that INT for an easy TD -- run out of gas, and slow down.

With the Pats coming next week -- This tough game against Buffalo couldn't have come at a better time! Our guys needed an opportunity to step up their conditioning, and work harder -- and that's what this game brought.

If they could come back from such tremendous adversity last night to beat the Bills, then anything is possible.

BELIEVE!
