So Fisher is gone, a new era is about to begin. Who will be our new head coach? Of course, there's the boring possibilities that we have already seen as possibilities: Gruden, Cowher, Munchak.

That's not what I'm looking for here. Instead, in this post, let's get creative.

So Fisher is gone, a new era is about to begin. Who will be our new head coach? Of course, there's the boring possibilities that we have already seen as possibilities: Gruden, Cowher, Munchak.

That's not what I'm looking for here. Instead, in this post, let's get creative.

Post the wackiest, weirdest ideas for our new coaching staff that you can come up with that the media isn't already reporting.

And then we can all <strike>argue</strike> discuss the various ideas until we come to the <strike>best</strike> least awful possibility.

The only rule: these must be theoretically possible. We can't steal another NFL team's OC or DC to be our OC or DC, the other team would have to give permission. However, we can steal an OC or DC to be our head coach, because it would be a promotion.

I'll start with 2 my co-worker and I came up with today. Warning, these may turn your hair white or cause your meat thermometer to pop:

1. Promote Heimerdinger to HC. Hire Texas co-OC/RB coach and former Texas QB Major Applewhite as OC. (or even HC, if 'Dinger's health won't allow HC duties).

2. Former Texas Tech HC Mike Leach as HC (or again, promote 'Dinger and make Leach OC).

OK, well, techinically, it just prevents any game from being called the "national championship" unless it is played as the result of a playoff, technically the BCS could survive without a champion.

Still, even as someone who is not a BCS fan, I'm amazed that this is what our national legislators are working on this week,

Good news from last week: The Jags, Steelers, Dolphins, and Texans all lost, and we moved past the Texans for 11th place in the conference.

Bad news: The Jets and Broncos won.

This week's games, who to root for, and why, after the jump.

Current AFC Standings:
1. Indianapolis Colts (11-0)
2. Cincinnati Bengals (8-3)
3. San Diego Chargers (8-3)
4. New England Patriots (7-4)
5. Denver Broncos (7-4)
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-5)
7. Baltimore Ravens (6-5)
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5)
9. Miami Dolphins (5-6)
10. New York Jets (5-6)
11. Tennessee Titans (5-6)
1 2. Houston Texans (5-6)

Good news from last week: The Jags, Steelers, Dolphins, and Texans all lost, and we moved past the Texans for 11th place in the conference.

Bad news: The Jets and Broncos won.

This week's games, who to root for, and why, after the jump.

This week's Games:

NY Jets at Buffalo: Bills. We still feel guilty about Birdgate. That, and oh yeah, they can knock off the Jets for us, after the Panthers couldn't pull it off.

Detroit at Cincinnati: Meh. The Bengals currently have a 2-game lead on the division. As long as the Steelers and the Ravens lose, this game doesn't really matter. Why not root for Schwartz? Lions.

Tennessee at Indianapolis: Titans. Of course.

Houston at Jacksonville: Texans. This is one of the most important games of the week to our playoff chances. We currently have the same record as Houston, and are ahead of them in the standings based on tiebreakers. The Texans can pass us in the playoff hunt pretty much only if they win this week and we lose. If both Houston and Tennessee win, all 3 teams will have the same 6-6 record and will also be tied on the 1st tiebreaker. But we will win the 2nd tiebreaker, division record, and move ahead of both Houston and Jacksonville in the standings.

Denver at Kansas City: Chiefs. Come on, Chiefs! The Broncos need to lose at least 2, maybe 3, for us to pass them.

New England at Miami: Patriots. That was even harder to say then telling you to root for the Colts last week. But here's why you should root for the Evil Empire: The Patriots now have a pretty solid division lead, they're most likely not going anywhere - the Dolphins are the only team with a chance of taking it. But Miami lost last week, one more loss will put the Dolphins away. And it will let us move closer to the playoffs in the process.

Oakland at Pittsburgh: Raiders. Any given Sunday, right? Maybe the ferocity of our cheers will spur the Raiders to greater success, so root hard!

San Diego at Cleveland: Browns. San Diego would need to lose 1 more than Denver for us to pass San Diego. Since Denver has begun winning and we need to beat San Diego ourselves, might as well root for them both to lose.

Baltimore at Green Bay: Packers. Puts Baltimore in a tie with us, though they still will hold the tiebreaker. Plus, it's the Ravens. Rooting against them is only natural. Join me in drinking a nice, refreshing glass of Haterade.

Look, we started off in a big hole by starting off the season 0-6. Even if the Titans win out, they ned some help if they want to have any chance of making the playoffs.

So here are the games this week with an impact on our playoff chances, with who we shoot be rooting for and why:

Current AFC Standings:
1. Colts (10-0)
2. Bengals (7-3)
3. Chargers (7-3)
4. Patriots (7-3)

5. Jaguars (6-4)
6. Steelers (6-4)
7. Broncos (6-4)
8. Ravens (5-5)
9. Texans (5-5)
10. Dolphins (5-5)
11. Jets (4-6)
12. Titans (4-6)

Look, we started off in a big hole by starting off the season 0-6. Even if the Titans win out, they ned some help if they want to have any chance of making the playoffs.

So here are the games this week with an impact on our playoff chances, with who we shoot be rooting for and why:

NY Giants @ Denver: Giants. The Broncos are now a game behind San Diego and don't play the Chargers again, and also have games against the Colts and Eagles left on the schedule. San Diego will take the division and we can pass the Broncos for the Wild Card.

Miami @ Buffalo: Bills. We feel bad that our owner flipped their fans off. If that doesn't do it for you, how about we're only a game behind Miami with a game left to play against them, and the Bills can help us play spoiler?

Carolina @ NY Jets: Panthers. The Jets are only ahead of us on tiebreakers. One more loss for them, and we pass them.

Cleveland @ Cincinnati: Bengals. All aboard the tiger train! We want the Bengals to take their first division title in quite some time. We've got enough problems fighting with the Steelers and Ravens to have to worry about 3 AFC North teams in the Wild Card hunt.

Indianapolis @ Houston: ::wincing:: Colts. While one more Colts win eliminates us from contention for the division title, I think it's safe to say that Peyton & co. aren't dropping 6 anyway. A win here and the Colts stay undefeated while the Texans drop to our level. They still have us on tiebreakers, but we can worry about that later.

Kansas City @ San Diego: Superchargers! We actually need them to lose one later this season (the one against us), so let them feast on what should be a cupcake game to expand their lead on their division.

Jacksonville @ San Francisco: 49ers. Of the 6-4 teams in the wild card hunt, the Jags have the best conference record. This one is probably going down to the wire, but any losses they can get certainly won't hurt.

Arizona @ Tennessee: Titans. Duh.

Pittsburgh @ Baltimore: Hope for a 0-0 tie. Failing that, root for Pittsburgh. That will put us closer to passing Baltimore. It might also necessitate rooting for Baltimore in these teams' December rematch, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it.

New England @ New Orleans: This one depends. If Miami lost on Sunday like we want them to, then let your hate fly and root for the Saints to crush the Patriots. If Miami won, then alas, we need the Patriots to win to keep their grip on the division.

The suit apparently alleges that the Titans knew about the problems with his knee before he blew it out; that preventative surgery would have fixed the problem; that the team did not inform him of the problem; and that the knee injury ended his career.

If true, this is major news.

This has nothing to do with football, but it does touch on Tennessee, and I'm sure we can all relate.

The absolutely fabulous Bettie Page died last night.

Yes, she was from Nashville, and even attended the same high school I did: Hume-Fogg.

Probably our most famous graduate.

It's a sad, sad day...

And in other news, I have to add a bunch of words in order to make the 75 word minimum.

I've been discussing this with some of the guys over on Battle Red Blog this week, and I thought I would mention it over here, since it hasn't been yet:

The Titans (read: Bud Adams) are considering wearing Oilers jerseys for one game next year.

http://www.titansradio.com/cgi-bin/blurb_view.cgi?blurb=news615800

I personally think it's a horrible idea, because I don't believe that any of that history belongs to this team, it belongs to the people of Houston.

But I understand that Bud Adams is a dick who likes ticking the people of Houston off. Actually, given that, I'm somewhat surprised he doesn't want to wear the Oilers jerseys against the Texans.

Instead, he wants to wear them against the "original" Titans - the New York Jets, who would also be wearing throwbacks in the same game.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

So I noticed that the Cards played in their black uniforms tonight.

Was that planned in advance, or was the "blackout" uniform a nod to the fact that major portions of the city are still without power?

Just curious; I don't live in Louisville, so I don't usually get word on things like what uniform the team is planning on wearing for any given game.'

I scored free tickets to the game at the last minute. Best tickets I've ever had - section 136, 40 yard-line on the Titans sideline. First time I've seen the sidelines action from close up.

Also, the first game I've ever attended that the Titans won.

I scored free tickets to the game at the last minute. Best tickets I've ever had - section 136, 40 yard-line on the Titans sideline. First time I've seen the sidelines action from close up.

Also, the first game I've ever attended that the Titans won.

My thoughts:

-first team offense was just TERRIBLE. Nobody was in sync with anybody else.

-Jamarcus Russell looked good, but the D-Line was giving him all day to throw.

-Chris Johnson had 2 key drops last night.

-Local boy makes good: watching Ingle Martin was fun, I remember when he played HS ball here.

-$7.00 is an outrageous price for a 12-ounce beer.

-$5.00 is an outrageous price for an ATM fee. If you come to the game, either have a Regions bank checking account or bring plenty of cash with you.

-remember Haynesworth's claim to have a six-pack? He lied. He jiggles a bit when he walks. I'm not trying to dis the man here, I do too, and he can still play football. But that stomach is a lot closer to a keg than it is a six-pack.

-Haynesworth wears some really big diamond earrings. They stand out from quite a long way away.

-Long after he was pulled from the game, Vince Young was with the wide receivers, Kerry Collins, and the offensive coaches, discussing things. He ran around, danced, high-fived people, and jumped up and down cheering the team. Rather like the fans, actually. This doesn't necessarily translate into results, but it's good to know your QB is excited about what's going on, and getting the other players excited, too. I saw no evidence of his supposed "pouting."

-LenDale White spends all his time on the sidelines sitting down, even when he is going to be going back in. Chris Johnson, Chris Henry, and Quinton Ganther all run around a little bit, or at least stand on the sideline and watch the game. LenDale is always sitting down. And in the defense section, at that. He seems to be pretty good buds with Haynesworth and Jevon Kearse, they spent most of the second half together chatting it up. I'm not sure if this is a criticism or not. Wouldn't jogging help him stay loosened up? And why doesn't he hang out with the other offense personnel? He did spend some time with Chris Johnson, but only when Johnson came to him.

The Titans are generally regarded as a well-run franchise that milks the most out of the Nashville market, and Fisher’s presence makes it an attractive place to play. To Adams’s credit, he has retained Fisher for more than 13 seasons, making the former Bears safety the league’s longest-tenured head coach, and provided him with a smart, personable general manager in Mike Reinfeldt.

Go Preds! If they win tonight they tie up the series and guarantee at least one more home game this season. For a team whose roster was gutted to reduce payroll for the owner who was planning to sell the team and was expected to go nowhere, 2-2 in the playoffs against the Red Wings ain't half-bad.

On another note, every Nashville Predators fan should quietly thank Craig Leopold every day for working out a deal with the local group to sell the team to. If he had sold to either the Hamilton guy or the Kansas City guy, one need only look at what is currently happening with the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics to see where it would have gone:

Their new owner is hellbent on taking the team to Oklahoma City. E-mails have recently turned up showing he was planning on moving the team (and renaming them the "Sonic Boom") before his purchase was even finalized, despite the agreement he had to make with the NBA to make a "good faith effort" to keep the team in Seattle. The most the city can do now is enforce the lease and force them to stay through 2010, thanks to no buyout clause in the lease. How much would it suck to be a Sonics fan right now?

Hey, I've been thinking.

Any interest in having a Music City Miracles Meetup to watch the first day of the draft?

Nashville regulars to this blog could finally meet Jimmy, and Jimmy could finally see his devoted fans, and possibly be scared away by them.

I think it is worth exploring, hence the post.

Jimmy? Your thoughts?

Nashville locals, tell me what you think!

There's a new receiver hitting the market today, maybe the Titans should make a go at him!

Per Pro Football Talk, the Bengals have cut Chris Henry today.

They said it was because of his behavior issues. Isn't this just the guy we need here?

Y'know, or not.

This line is only to get my character count up to 300.

Something zackmann mentioned in his post about the Tigers got me thinking.

There were 5 teams from Tennessee that made the tourney: Memphis, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Belmont, and Austin Peay. More than any other single state.

How cool is it that 5 of the teams came from the Titans' state?

Going further, it appears at the moment that the South is also more heavily represented than any other region of the country. Besides 5 from TN, you've got:

-3 from Kentucky (Kentucky, Louisville, Western KY)
-3 from North Carolina (UNC, Duke, Davidson)
-1 from Alabama (South Alabama)
-1 from Arkansas (Arkansas)
-1 from Georgia (Georgia)
-3 from Texas (Texas A&M, Texas, TX Arlington)
-1 from Virginia (George Mason)
-2 from South Carolina (Winthrop, Clemson)
-1 from Florida (Miami)
-2 from Mississippi (Mississippi Valley State, MS State)
-2 from Washington, DC (American, Georgetown)

All in all, 25 out of 65. 38% of the teams from 24% of the US.

So is the South cooler? Better at BBall? Or am I just a numbers geek?

You want to hear inside gossip from Nashville, right?

Well, while on my way home from work, I was listening to one of our local sports talk stations, 104.5 THE ZONE (Their slogan? "No one beats ZONE coverage" - feel free to snicker), and this is what they had to say:

The rumor is that trade talks for #32 are heating up, and Dallas is actually interested in him, for either a 2008 6th-round pick, or possibly a 2009 conditional pick based on his performance.

And there you have it. Other than that, all anyone is talking about is March Madness.

By the way, for you non-locals, Frank Wycheck is a member of this radio station's morning show.

Here's their site:
http://www.1045thezone.com/

This doesn't necessarily have to be an encounter with a Titan, as I know many of the people on this board don't live in Nashville.

Anyway, got the idea from a story posted over on Stampede Blue currently, one of the posters there apparently had drinks with Robert Mathis last weekend.

Anyway, give us your best encounters with sports figures you're a fan of.

I have 3, none of them particularly cool:

I parked Steve McNair's SUV once while working as a valet at the Wild Boar (for non-Nashvillians: was once the most expensive restaurant in the city, possibly the state. Dinner ran around $200 a person plus drinks. Boasted a multi-million dollar wine collection. Closed a few years ago due to bankruptcy). He gave me a very large tip.

I met Eddie George at Davis-Kidd (famous Nashville bookstore) while I was meeting a friend who worked there for lunch. He was buying a book on landscape architecture.

I am 98% certain I was standing in line behind Frank Wychek waiting on a urinal at a Metallica concert, but I didn't actually talk to him there, it would have been a little weird.

Anybody else?

Hi, first-time poster here.

I'm a huge Tennessee Titans fan, but I frequently find myself reading this blog because of John Morgan's analysis.

You do a wonderful job, man.

I have a request, though: while you are reviewing WR draft prospects, could you take a look at Vanderbilt's Earl Bennett? I know he doesn't get a lot of looks as a first-round prospect, but I would love to know what you think of him, John.

I will admit the only videos I could find on him were here:
