Lions trade the first pick in the third round for the jets third rounder, 4th rounder and 7th rounder. I think that this is a nice move by the lions gaining two more draft picks. I think that whoever the lions are planning on drafting will still be there plus it gives us a 4th round choice which is a big round as well. GOOD MOVE!!! I like where this is heading. What do you guys think?

Polian: Martin Mayhew one of the top young GM prospects

Bill Polian, who knows a few things about constructing a winning NFL franchise, told FoxSports columnist Jason Whitlock that Martin Mayhew is one of the top up-and-coming general manager prospects.

September 25, FoxSports.com: Last week I was at the same college football game as the best general manager in professional football, Indy's Bill Polian. At halftime of the Kansas State-Louisville game, I picked Polian's brain about young GM prospects. To my great surprise he was extremely high on Mayhew, who was just promoted to assistant GM in Detroit.

Polian is convinced that Mayhew has a deep understanding of personnel and a tremendous work ethic. Mayhew was one of only four guys Polian identified as a future GM.

If you don't know, Polian built the Buffalo Bills Super Bowl teams, the Carolina Panthers team that advanced to the Super Bowl and, of course, the Indianapolis Colts squad that won it all. He knows what it takes to build a winner.

Mayhew might be worth hanging onto for a year or two.

The only thing keeping people from accepting Mayhew is the fact that he worked under Millen. This doesnt mean that he will be bad if anything now he knows what not to do as a GM. People have said that he has already done more in half a season as Millen did the whole time he was in Detroit. It may take a couple of years but I believe Mayhew has the work ethic and the ablility to turn the lions around. Plus he can already start thinking about Head Coaches while other teams that have fired their GMs have to wait to hire a GM. Im pretty excited to hear his press conference and happy that the lions gave him a chance especially after the Brilliant Roy Williams trade. I mean we got so much for Roy when he was more than likely gonna leave for nothing at the end of the season. REally the trade was the best thing Detroit did in a long time. I say just give him a chance..

2009 Lions Draft

Draft

1.) Sam Bradford QB oklahoma

2.) Rey Maualuga MLB usc

3.) Jamon Meredith OT s carolina

3.) Domonique Johnson CB jackson st.

4.) Vince Oghobaase NT duke

6.) Andrew Quarless TE psu

7.) Jamarko Simmons WR wmu

Free Agents

-Deangelo Hall

Just like the Falcons did a year ago the lions will take a QB for the first pick and acquire a MLB and a LT for there 2nd and 3rd picks. Whatever new GM and HC come to detroit get to start their own regime with the QB of the offense and the QB of the defense in this draft. Bradford and Maualuga will be the face of the lions for years to come. Jamon Meredith has quick feet and good leadership to anchor the O-Line he will play left tackle allowing Backus to slide inside This pick could also be Jason Smith OT. The falcons turned their team around using the same tactics for there draft which was very similar having 2 1st and 2 3rd round picks. In the third round the lions get a dominate corner in Domonique Johnson he runs a 4.34 and is big. He is also a ball hawk. Vince Oghobaase will contribute to a young and soon to be talented d-line. He is built and plays just like Haynesworth. The reason I have Quarless in the 5th round is because of some off the field character issues, however if he can shape up his attitude then he could dominate the next level. And in the 6th round I think it is worth taking a look at Jamarko Simmons because of the success Gregg Jennings is having with Green Bay, Jamarko is putting up similar numbers at WMU and looks to be a very good posession WR. I dont think the redskins will try to resign Deangelo Hall so the lions will be sure to try and sign him.
