Why 3 longmen in the bullpen?
Why are there still 3 longmen on the team? Bennett has a WHIP of 2 with an miraculous ERA of .82. Carlyle has a WHIP of 1.8 (still sucks) but has a horrid ERA of 7.who cares. While Parr is fillining in for Campillio(5.40ERA, 2.7WHIP) and has a 4.5ERA and a 1.7 WHIP. Why carry three long men when Javy, JJ, and Lowe are all going to go 5-7 quality innings? Even if KK and JoJo stink up the place thats only two games that require long men a week.
If we had last years rotation i could see the need for three long men, but really none of them are guys i would trust 1 inning with the lead, or in a close game. These guys are just filler to get through bad games (Parr might have some potential as a trading chip). There are several short men (Valdez and Acosta) who are doing well who could serve the same roll without the massively high WHIPs and ERAs. Please note, I didn't say Medlan because I think highly of him as either a starter or releiver in the future. No need to rush a guy who is going round for round with Hanson the last year and a half to fill the back of the bullpen.

we had 4.5 mil for glavine and 2.5million for anderson. thats 7million just on those two, whom we have better in house options. i would have been happier with reyes/morton/campillio and b jones. if they knew they had 7 mill why not sign a good outfielder or a good pitcher.
tossing all the money at ohman, abreu, o hudson, or even lottery tickets would have been better. hell who knows, we could have won the dunn sweepstakes with 8million and a shot to not play for the natspos.

outfield options
this may sound crazy but bear with me.
why not offer a 2yr. $14mil contract to abreu and toss out the idea of a minor league contract for andrew jones. i know abreu isn't the masher everyone wants. but he gives us options, you start the year with abreu in left anderson and blanco in center and frenchy in right. if andrew does well for say 2 months in aaa bring him up, if not he can rot in hell. if frenchy spits the bit again like last year demote him to aaa move abreu to right and plug b. jones and diaz into left.
the main upshot is our outfield sucks all around, someone with versatility to play right as well as providing an acceptable lf bat ( good average, obp, ok slugging) gives us options if francour, b jones, and diaz all do badly.
