I know we lost last week, but I still feel good about this team. I also feel good about the game against Washington. Why? Because I'll be flying out to Los Angeles tomorrow morning to attend the game. The last time I went to a UCLA football game was the homecoming game against Stanford last year...and we all know how that turned out. Hopefully I (and a bunch of other alumni) will bring good mojo. Anyway, I'm a notorious procrastinator and I still need to pack, so I'll make this short and sweet. Here are the results:

1. How many passes will Brehaut attempt? 0

2. T or F: Knox will get 3 or more carries. False

3. Who will be winning after the 3rd quarter? Oregon State

The only person who got all three right was DigDog. Congrats...most people assumed that Brehaut would get at least a few pass attempts in. Coachspeak can't be trusted, I guess.

Here are your leaders:

1. Nars (17)

2. mdjohns4 (16)

3. Centric (13)

4. MexiBruin (12)

4. Harsha (12)

4. Bellerophon (12)

4. jaffa (12)

4. matiasucla (12)

9. dproduct (11)

9. 84 (11)

9. wizardofoc (11)

9. bruinscv (11)

9. YRLBruin (11)

Urban Meyer = Pete Carroll of the SEC?

Does this article remind you of someone? Only coaches like Pete Carroll and Urban Meyer would suspend a player for one friggin' half for trying to blind an opponent. I'm still not sure what our 4 guys did to deserve their 1 gamer, but it couldn't have possibly been worse than eye-gouging. What a terrible message to send young players.

Sorry about the delay on the results...I know that all of you wait with bated breath to read my insightful weekly post. Much like Achilles, work has been hectic lately. Either way, the Bruins sit at 3-4 and we're on the verge of going 3-5. Will this team reach down and scratch and claw for a road win against a worthy opponent? Well, there are a lot of factors working against us, so it will be a tough game no matter what.

Here are the results from last week:

1. How many passing yards for Kevin Prince (within 20)? 60

2. Who will rush for more yards? Arizona (209 vs. 65)

3. What will be Kai Forbath's longest FG (within 3 yards)? 53

No one got all 3 correct...not too surprised considering the God-awful performance of KP. Here's hoping he can make us all forget it this week.

Lastly, here are your running leaders:

1. Nars (15)

2. mdjohns4 (14)

3. matiasucla (12)

3. Centric (12)

5. Harsha (11)

5. dproduct (11)

5. YRLBruin (11)

5. Bellerophon (11)

5. MexiBruin (11)

10. jaffa (10)

10. PopnFried (10)

Another week of UCLA football, another loss. Although let's be honest, are we really in a position that we didn't expect to be in pre-season? We already have 75% of our win total from all of last season and we have an entire half season to play. I see tangible improvement in this team over last year's team. We are still very young and we will make bonehead mistakes (see KP pick 6), but those will get better with time.

As for the criticism of our defense...think of it this way: we have had 2-3 quarters of BAD defense, about 10 quarters of average defense, and 11-12 quarters of great defense. Don't believe it? We've held the opponent scoreless for 10 quarters so far this year (out of 24). It's hard for me to get upset at their play when they've kept us in every game except one. We could have easily beaten Stanford and Oregon if our offense had stepped up. So, I guess I just don't get the knock on our D (except for some poor tackling). One more thing about our D that is interesting...in past years DW's defense would bend but not break, but ultimately give up field position. This year we are giving up big plays or forcing 3 and outs and generally handing our offense decent field position (too lazy to look up stats, sorry). So, perhaps Bullough's scheme IS actually a bit different from DW's, at least from a philosophical perspective. Moving on to the guess from last week...

1. Will UCLA score more FG's or TD's? FG's

2. Name a Bruin who will recover a fumble. None

3. Will UCLA's first play be a run or pass? Run

Bonus: Who will score last? Cal

bru79, MexiBruin, YRLBruin, and Centric guessed all 4 correct. I'm not sure what kind of system Centric is using, but he/she has guessed all questions correctly 3 times now (Nars has as well). Tarot cards perhaps? Simply amazing. Here are your year-to-date top performers:

1. Nars (14)

2. mdjohns4 (13)

3. Centric (12)

4. matiasucla (11)

4. dproduct11 (11)

4. YRLBruin (11)

7. Bellerophon (10)

7. MexiBruin (10)

7. Harsha (10)

Um...everyone got rocked this week. Achilles, go easy on us next week, will ya? The questions were:

1. True or False: UCLA will have 60 or more penalty yards. False

2. Name a Bruin who will score a rushing TD. None

3. Who will lead the Bruins in tackles? Kyle Bosworth

No one got all three right, and quite a few people seem to think that "K. Bosworth" is specific enough for me to figure out which Bosworth they were guessing. Come on, people! You have to know better than that.

The top 10 is basically unchanged from last week, with a couple of exceptions:

1. Nars (11)

2. mdjohns4 (10)

3. matiasucla (9)

3. Bellerophon (9)

5. dproduct (8)

5. uclafan11 (8)

5. wizardofoc (8)

8. too many with 7 to list
