New Mexico State gets beat

1

Dewayne Walker is not off to a good start, but it's still very early. I hope he is able to turn around their program because it would be nice to be able to point to UCLA's "coaching tree."

It doesn't sound serious, but let's hope he's OK for the opener.

Defensive tackle Jess Ward, out the last two weeks with a sprained right knee, is expected to play Saturday. He should be available for 15-20 plays. . . .

A nice write up on TA in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. I gotta say that TA is one of my favorite Bruins...he's just a gritty gamer.

Kentucky/USC making a deal with the devil?

As most of you know already (and has been fanshotted on BN by Tydides), Kentucky hired John Calipari as their head coach of men's basketball in the offseason. Shortly thereafter, It was revealed...

Nice article on Christian Ramirez in LAT

Chris Foster does a pretty good job on this article...the buzz keeps getting louder for Ramirez.

Good to see that we don't have a repeat of Brian Price two years ago.

Tennessee Preview (Courtesy of Bruin Roar)

A quick little preview of the Tennessee game...I'm sure it will get more detailed in the coming weeks, but this isn't a bad place to start. RockyTop Talk did a fantastic job as well.

2009 Pac-10 Preview

Nothing all that earth shattering here, but I thought it was worth a fanshot. They predict UCLA to finish 5-7 (6th)...I have to think we're at least 2 games better than 2008. We're better in nearly every facet of the game and we have an easier schedule, so I'll go out on a limb and predict 7 wins.

OT: College Basketball "Commitments"

+

This article caught my eye on ESPN because I think recruiting is such a strange process and I've never quite understood why they even bother to call it a commitment anymore. They should just call it "I might go to this school, but I might go somewhere else. Actually, I have no idea where I'm going...so forget I said anything."

Vols getting hit by injury bug: Sr WR Rogers tears ACL, Jr WR Moore Breaks Foot

4

Obviously, this is relevant because we're playing Tennessee this season. While I hate to see young men get injured, this could definitely have an affect on the outcome of the game. Just look at our team last year...it's not hard to forget that we played with a 3rd string QB all year.

Suspect in UCLA tennis player attack surrenders

+

It appears as though this was some kind of group fracas, and the suspect claims he didn't sucker punch Jake Fleming. It's hard to know who to believe in these kinds of things, but the important thing is to hope for a speedy recovery.
