Talking Chop Watch the Metrodome collapse.

I didn't realize why this fascinated me so much, but when I replaced the football field in my mind and replaced with the baseball diamond and those stupid plexiglass outfield walls, I remembered… oh yeah. I wish this had happened in '91. I don't really hold any ill will towards the Twins, but for some reason, I have always hated the Metrodome and it's reversible A/C system.

I saw one splash hit years ago in person, but this was much, much better! And kudos to the fan who already updated the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCovey_Cove

Talking Chop Going to see Smoltz v. Millwood tonight.

With the Braves not traveling to the Rangers this year for Interleague play, this is as close to a Braves game as I'm going to get to see this season. I will definitely wear my Braves hat, though I admit I'm not a fan of seeing a hat from a team not involved in the game at the stadium... but in my '90s Braves fan mind this almost is.

Really not sure who to root for. I don't really care, but I mostly want to see Smoltz pitch well and it would be great if Millwood pitched well too. I know alot of you guys really don't care for either of them any more since they are no longer Braves... I get it, but I'm still a fan of both. Maybe Smoltz has had some sour grapes in the media, but when he was a Brave I don't remember ever seeing a guy compete as hard from the pitching mound. Millwood has always gotten a lot of bad press around here from these Rangers fans, but I think he's really just the kind of guy they need in their ballpark. But that's another post for people who care about the Rangers.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing some of you spit some venom or remember the good ol' days... whatever your dispositiion. For me, I'll just be happy to see them play and am hoping that maybe they can find Ryan Klesko to throw out the first pitch.

Maybe my dream for the rest of the day will be for the game to go to the bottom of the 9th in a 0-0 tie until Smoltz gives way to Papelbon and then Andruw can hit a walkoff. (With Nelson Cruz on base to help my fantasy team)

Talking Chop Dallas Braves Fan Finally Sees a Game

I love interleague play only because it means I get to see the Braves when they come to Dallas. Braves are I think 4-0 in games I've been to in Texas. Thought I'd give you guys a brief rundown of last night's game from the stands.

I was amazed how much booing there was for Tex. I know he supposedly turned down a big contract and "forced their hand" but they did trade him, and they did get quite a haul of prospects for him. The loud Rangers fans behind me were cracking me up. In between their boos they were coming up they were coming up with such brilliant insults as "nerd", "dumb face" and "fat, dumb face". Needless to say, I think they have jilted lover syndrome. They miss him. There were more Rangers Tex jerseys in the stadium than any other I saw. The only time I started to turn around and give the guy a look was when he started to say something bad about Chipper...but all he could come up with was "Why is everybody taking his picture, he's been around forever?" I resisted reminding him that he is batting .400 on June 18.

One guy he couldn't even find anything bad to say about was Jo-Jo. There were even a few times he admitted, "Whoa, that was a really good pitch". The only Brave I wanted to boo was Frenchy when he struck out looking on 3 pitches with the bases loaded and 1 out. The Rangers were running all over McCann... but it's hard to find it in your heart to be mad at the guy.

When Gonzalez came out for the 9th, I was excited to get to see him pitch, but a little nervous with it being his first time out. But then we all got to see his windup/timing mechanism he does before he throws the ball for the first time and I have to say I was just as surprised as the all the Rangers fans asking each other "What the hell?". He looks like something out of the 1920's. I was telling my buddies he needed to have a cigar in the side of his mouth and start talking with one of those 20's accent saying things like "It's the bees knees, I tell ya!". Despite that, he looked great. When he was running in on the first batter (a righty) and brushed him off the plate 3 times, I knew I liked him. Once he got that out, the Rangers fans started filing out and I've felt as good as I can remember watching a Braves closer finish off the game with confidence.

Go Braves!
