Part of what has taken place since the Packers hired Dom Capers as their defensive coordinator this offseason was the intentional installation of an abundance of 3-4 components. Green Bay's coaching staff overloaded players to see what part of the transition they could handle. Kampman and fellow starting outside linebacker Jeremy Thompson -- a converted end who has segued so well into the role that he could start ahead of rookie Clay Matthews -- were asked to do things they won't do during the season. ****** Thought this might be topical.

Kampman, Packers make progress in 3-4 switch but far from done

Every NFL defense works hard to get its opponent to third down. If they aren't successful on third down, however, their efforts were for naught. When a team's first and second down defense is effective, it opens things up for the designated pass rusher and the nickelback.

Breaking down 'the money down' for NFL defenses Chiefs aren't even mentioned, but the NFC East figures prominently, and KC is facing those clowns this year.

We've seen 3-4 and 4-3 under. Now for 3-4 under.

Yet Haley doesn’t have the Pro Bowl WRs he coached in Arizona to help Cassel in K.C. Cassel doesn’t have the Pro Bowl receivers he had in New England, where he emerged from a career backup to a valuable commodity.

Offseason spotlight: Cassel facing expectations in K.C.

Several people have said they see the uncapped year as a huge opportunity for the Daniel Snyders of the world to spend, spend, spend and become the Yankees of the NFL. What people don't realize is that while some great, great players will get huge contracts, the lower-tier players will be making less because of the lack of roster mobility. Those players are the majority in the union and should step up now to prevent the uncapped year from happening. The ten owners who will be using a lot of money to sign players will be more than offset by the 22 owners who will cut player spending. As Mike Florio wisely pointed out last week: I'm one who's made the Dan Snyder observation. The 30% thing seems to hurt the up-and-comers, but I still don't see why a Dan Snyder couldn't simply add a lot of high-dollar veterans, short term. Can someone help me with this? This is my second fanshot using Prime's instructions. Pretty cool feature. I'll try not to abuse it.

A 30% increase rule restricts salary increases from 2009 to 2010. For example: a player with a $1,000,000 Salary in 2009 would be limited to annual salary increases of $300,000 per year beginning in 2010. Teams and players have not been allowed to sign contracts that exceeded the 30% rule past the current off-season.

Any Interest in Josh Cribbs?

Read about his continuing lack of love for and from Cleveland, yesterday. A Quick Source to Video. The man can run back kicks in the NFL. Hard to say if he'd end up an RB or a WR, though...

Anything to say about the new mindset?

DB interviews and yesterday's Soren Petro interview of WR Bobby Engram sounds like they're teaching principles and ideas, rather than x's and o's by rote.

Plax turns down 2 months

Concensus is that he's behaving yet again like an idiot. Carrying without permit is 3.5 mandatory. A 2-month plea agreement is damn generous, according to most. They say his wife is a lawyer, but he's ignoring the ones he hired. This idiot should've used the lawyer money for a bodyguard, or, better yet, avoided places in which he felt he needed a gun to defend himself.

Fitzgerald, in interview on NFL.com, says he's willing to re-work his contract, to keep 'Quan in AZ, like Brady did to get Moss (and Smellway did to get Neil Smith).

Seriously, perimeter players.

Are the Chiefs going to make an aggressive move for WR?  I think they've left themselves the mobility to be decisive on this key position.  Engram was a solid team-building move, as much for...

Perimeter players

Power or Finesse?

Which way is the KC offense headed? I vote for power (and meanness). Haley's known for high-powered offense, but is this a line that's suddenly going to sustain a solid pocket for 20 seconds...
