I grew up in Arvada outside of Denver, where my parents have lived in the same house for more than 30 years, went to school in Utah, moved here to the San Francisco area after graduation. I've been a Rockies fan from the start, and am a baseball fan in general.

'Tis the Season: Purple Row Cares Has More to Give
Back in October, PurpleRowCares donated $100 to the Mike Coolbaugh Memorial. We have received our next check from CafePress, and have another $100 to donate. Help us decide which worthy charity to support. In our previous suggestion post the following ideas were mentioned in addition to the Mike Coolbaugh Memorial:
- One of the two official team charities, Colorado Rockies Baseball Club Foundation or Colorado Rockies Charity Fund (read about them here)
- Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver
We can pick one of these, or choose something else. Help us decide!
And remember, you can still get your Purple Row merchandise and help support whatever charity we choose the next time around.

Paul Phillips makes SI's Pictures of the Year issue
The SI Sports Photos of the Year issue showed up in my mailbox today, and the Rockies are represented on the very last page (inside the back cover) by the photo in the link.

Ubaldo Jimenez among pitchers who should have more Ws
Jerry Crasnick includes Ubaldo Jimenez among a list of starters who have been better than their records suggest. There's a pretty good writeup and a couple nice quotes.

Shop PurpleRowCares!
Most of this information is already in the previous t-shirt thread, but I thought it would be a good idea to have everything in one easily accessible place. Plus, some people may have stopped checking new posts over there.
The PurpleRowCares shop is now open for business! Get your Purple Row merchandise featuring designs created by various Purple Row members.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Because we have a Basic shop, we can only have one of each item available. So if you want a different design on any item, comment here or shoot us an e-mail at purplerow.cares@gmail.com and we can easily change it for you.
- I added a variety of products to our shop in addition to the apparel Charlie got us started with (and there are still more apparel options), but feel free to browse the various products CafePress offers and we can add anything else you're interested in.
- We can still add more Purple Row designs to the shop, if anyone has something they want us to upload.
- Although this all started out with the idea to come up with a t-shirt for our favorite Rockies blog, this is also a great way to give back at the same time. When and if the orders start coming in, we will have some profit that we can donate to charity. At some point we'll do a poll to decide what organization to support (depending on how things go, we may be able to eventually make donations to more than one charity).
Please feel free to comment here with any questions, or e-mail purplerow.cares@gmail.com.

Harry Kalas dead at 73
Better stories will probably be up later, as this is just breaking. Kalas was the voice of the Phillies as well as a voice for NFL Films.

Where are you, Rowbots?
Since we seem to have a lot of new members recently, I thought it would be fun to see where everyone lives to get to know each other a little bit better. I know the majority of us are probably somewhere in Colorado, but there are plenty of us elsewhere and it might be fun to see where our fellow fans are located. Maybe this can even facilitate some meet ups! I know I'd love to find someone in my area to go to games with.
They did this recently over at Mile High Report and it was neat to see how many places were represented. I'm sure we don't have nearly as many members as MHR and probably aren't quite as far flung, but it should be fun just the same. And maybe someone who's ambitious enough (I can't make any promises for myself) could do something similar to the MHR Around the World post.
So, Rowbots, tell us where you are! Comment with your city/state or city/country.

Rockies make SI Pictures of the Year
A Rockies photo made the SI special issue Pictures of the Year: The Best Sports Photos of 2008. It's from the August 27 game in San Francisco, and features Rockies Chris Iannetta and (of all people) Livan Hernandez.
I can't find an actual gallery including this photo on SI.com, so I had to link to the photo on the US Presswire site. Following is the copy that accompanies the photo in the print issue:
In a unanimous decision, Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta (left) and pitcher Livan Hernandez joined umpire Rob Drake in calling the Giants' Dave Roberts out at the plate to end the sixth inning at AT&T Park. Colorado led 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth when San Francisco's Roberts, who had tripled, attempted to score from third on Fred Lewis's fly-out to center. Rockies outfielder Willy Taveras gunned Roberts down with a perfect one-hop throw. A game-save? Nope, the Giants won anyway, 4-1.
Photographer Kyle Terada, US Presswire: "This photo shows the magnitude of the moment: Roberts dejected while the Rockies celebrate with a lot of emotion. Each individual is nicely placed in the frame--and it's fun that it looks like the umpire knocked Roberts out."
