Florida State's Recruiting Class is Ridiculous [Southern Pigskin]
"Of the top seven Sunshine State prospects per Rivals.com, Florida State currently has three commitments and may soon get a fourth in St. Augustine linebacker Tony Steward. Florida has zero, Miami the same. The Seminoles have taken full advantage of the coaching transitions of their foes and are using a deft mix of circumstance and aggressiveness to be on par to sign their best class in recent memory."
Sapp: Gruden got Shannon fired at UM?
Well now. Isn't this a spicy turn of events?
What I am thankful for
It's a bit past Thanksgiving, but I think in the afterglow of Florida State's first state title since 1999, it's time to reflect on the good things that have recently transpired.
To Urban Meyer: Thank you for your continuing employment of Steve Addazio and trusting your offense to a man that Jeff Bowden giggles at. I'm sure it must have been hard to craft an offense that could post just seven points against our battle-weary and still-learning defense, but you were up to the task, good sir. Your recent struggles also have raised doubts in the minds of young Sunshine State recruits, a debt we will not repay. And let it not go without mention that your bizarre "retirement" boondoggle last January has provided us ample ammunition to prospective future Seminoles.
To Randy Shannon: Thank you for your unwavering focus off the football field and off the recruiting trail. Your inattention to the latter has given our new staff a considerable head start, both on our rebuilding and your replacement. Your assistance has been invaluable, and we will miss your ability to be completely outschemed on a given night. At your earliest convenience, please remember to hand over all that you have learned to you successor, so that he may continue in your footsteps.
To Clemson: Thank you for your continued employment of ineffective head coaches. While other programs could have taken advantage of FSU's slipups in coaching and recruiting over the past decade and built an effective ACC- and BCS-bowl winning program, you instead treaded water with Tommy Bowden and now Dabo Swinney. Your inaction on the field has allowed us to expediently repair recruiting lines in our own state, retake our own division and also opened back up the fertile recruiting ground of the Palmetto State, to which we are already familiar.
And finally to Jimbo Fisher: Thank you for your expedient resurrection of the Seminole program, culminating in Saturday's state title (the first since 1999) and ACC Atlantic Division crown (the first since 2005). These goals could have been met in season two with little dissension, but your attention to detail and coaching acumen have turned these goals into a reality in Year 1. The morale boost you have given your fans can never be repaid after nearly a decade of darkness. Truly, thank you and GO NOLES!!
That's what I am thankful for, who is on your list?

UM's Jacory not injured badly, father says
Had not heard this before, so this rumor was shot down even before it had circulated much. Wonder if this will affect Jacory? We'll need him to be at his most interception-y on Saturday!
BA breaks down Super Regional
Breakdown includes candid coach reaction on FSU's team and season ("better than Miami and Clemson"). An interesting read.
Bowden confirms the obvious: He was forced out
Bobby says his options were resignation or Barney Fife role ... without the bullet.
ACC pulls out of Emerald Bowl starting next year
With Boise also off the grid, I think that does it for the ACC Western bowl project. I think our westernmost bowl is now in Mobile, Alabama.
Spurrier backs Bowden!?! ... and the FSU track team
When the Head Ball Coach isn't drawing up ball plays for his ball players, he wonderin' why Bobby can't keep his dadgum wins. And don't get him started on the Seminoles' track team.
Noles land a regional
No surprise here. ACC also leads with four host teams, FSU, Georgia Tech, UNC and Clemson. Gators also land a bid.
• Atlanta/Georgia Tech
• Austin, Texas/Texas
• Baton Rouge, La./LSU
• Chapel Hill, N.C./UNC
• Clemson, S.C./Clemson
• Fort Worth, Texas/TCU
• Fullerton, Calif./Cal State Fullerton
• Gainesville, Fla./Florida
• Greenville, N.C./East Carolina
• Houston/Rice
• Irvine, Calif./UC-Irvine
• Louisville, Ky./Louisville
• Norman, Okla./Oklahoma
• Oxford, Miss./Ole Miss
• Tallahassee, Fla./Florida State
• Tempe, Ariz./Arizona State
ACC drops Boise bowl; adds bowl game in Mobile, Ala.
This was long overdue, but the league will still make one team go out to San Fran while everyone else stays in the South (or DC).
Hamilton gets new five-year deal
Glad he's not going to Memphis. A nice reward for a great season.
Douglas named AP third-team All-American
Congrats to Toney!
FSU hoops: exceeding expectations
We've come a long way:
2008-09 Predicted Order of Finish
1. North Carolina (40) 480
2. Duke 436
3. Wake Forest 354
4. Miami 344
5. Clemson 306
6. Virginia Tech 298
7. Maryland 192
8. Georgia Tech 186
9. NC State 179
10. Florida State 145
11. Boston College 123
12. Virginia 79
Way to go Noles!!
Continue cheering as if I'm not wearing the suit
Is this perhaps the greatest suit in the FSU basketball history? Probably so. Maybe Leo should wear this every game to distract the other team's defense, thus leading to fewer turnovers. ;-)
ESPN's Katz on Leonard Hamilton
Katz breaks down the history of our search for the elusive NCAA bid and the pain of all our near misses.
Antone: Biggest bust of 2005?
Interesting article here as Scout takes a look back at the 5-star studs from the 2005 recruiting class, now mostly on it's way out.
By their reckoning, FSU's own Antone Smith may have been the biggest bust of that year's recruiting class (or at least the highest-ranked). Callahan Bright and Fred Rouse (groan) are also two FSU recruits on their bust list.
Scout also had a competing list detailing the 5-star studs who panned out from 05.
Antone's final FSU career stats: 492 carries, 2,253 yards (4.6 ypc), 26 touchdowns. Year-by-year rushing (carries, yards, TDs): 2005: 36-188-3. 2006: 88-456-5. 2007: 191-817-3. 2008: 177-792-15
So agree or disagree with their list, and who else in that class was a boom or bust?
