Cameron Ridley commits to Texas
[Update]: As the OP says, this is a big-time commitment for a program that desperately needed an interior player in the 2012 class and Ridley fits that bill as a pure post, if a bit undersized at 6-9. More on Ridley later. Hook 'em, Cameron! --GoBR--

Abilene vs. Belton Prospects
I'm attending David Ash's game tonight as Belton plays Abilene at the Alamodome for part of the Texas Football Classic. I'm sure OK State commit Hershel Sims will be impressive, but I was wondering if any other Texas commits or prospects will be playing. Any information is appreciated.
Ross Perot Jr. sues Cuban once again.
Perot alleges insolvency and other bs.
New NCAA Recruiting Rule Limits Head Coaches In-Waiting
An NCAA rule adopted 1-16-10 applies all recruiting limitations currently reserved for head coaches to head coaches in-waiting. It covers any FBS assistants publicly designated to become the next head coach. According to Chip Brown, this rule was proposed by the Sun Belt Big East Conference and has definitely caught Texas off guard. The only other major program currently affected is Maryland, since FSU's, Kentucky's, and Purdue's new coaches have already taken the top position.
This is obviously a serious hit for Muschamp on the recruiting trail, not the least of which limits him to the same single in-home visit as Mack. Really, any school would be hurt by removing a coach from such a critical task. What's left to determine is UT's next action on the matter. Will they be allowed to un-designate Muschamp as successor? Is there some loophole UT's lawyer's can dig up? I just heard about this from Ketchum and Brown on 104.9 this afternoon, so please provide any additional details if available. The link below is an OB message board post listing the rule (possibly a draft), but that's all I could find for now.

Dooley from La. Tech now at the top of Tennessee's list.
Volunteers look to make a splash (as small as possible, like in diving).
Kevin Arnovitz praises Ahmad Nivins - Summer League Roundup
"Ahmad Nivins looks like a pro player -- long, muscular, athletic, and coordinated. The but that usually follows this profile is ... lacks fundamentals, or doesn't have a post game. With Nivins, though, that doesn't appear to be the case. He displays good footwork, moves around the floor with purpose, and is a beast on the boards. When you ask folks here why he dropped to No. 56 in the draft, you get a lot of shrugs, followed by a soft endorsement of his skills. He's had a nice week thus far -- 14 points and 6 rebounds per game on 51.6 percent shooting from the field. The only apparent drawback is that he looks waaaay too wound up on the court, and that intensity occasionally works against him."
Johnson out of running for Pistons Coaching Vacancy
Avery says they were unable to agree on a vision for the future. Apparently, Detroit wasn't ready to commit to a four year deal.
Posnanski picks the Longhorns to reach the Elite 8
In his whimsical 64 second NCAA bracket feature, Texas upsets Duke and Villanova before falling to Pitt.
Jaric cleared of misconduct allegations.

Devin Harris Half Court Buzzer Beater
This was an amazing shot. Congrats to Devin.
Oklahoma State is Tonight!!!
Hello there, Longhorns. I'm completely surprised that tonight's home game has not been mentioned today on BON. I know everyone is disappointed with our recent play and current losing streak, but this is when the Horns need us out at the Drum the most. We really have been spoiled by Barnes' teams the past few years, but losing three games in a row is not the end of the world in college bball. This team has the ability to turn it around, but an empty Erwin Center is certainly no help to their already shaky confidence. Please do what you can to make it out tonight! Unfortunately, I'm afraid there will be numerous open seats, so I've tried all day to recruit friends to attend. I was about to go it alone, but a coworker finally agreed to come along. Buy your $8 mezzanine tickets and then at least fill up the O-zone when called down. I hope to see a rabid group of BONers out there watching us dispatch this okie basketball school (or are they a wrestling school? Whatever.). Hook 'Em!!!!!!!
Houston Aeros
I'm attending my first AHL game tonight as the Houston Aeros take on the Binghamton Senators. I recently learned that the Aeros are the primary affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, but Dallas has had a temporary affiliation agreement (as with several other teams until the Texas Stars begin play). I was wondering which, if any, Stars-controlled players are currently on their roster? Is there a reason why the Aeros never became a primary affiliate of the Stars organization? I'm aware of some related history as Tippet was head coach and David Oliver played during their 1999 Turner Cup Championship season. Also, if anyone is looking for a reason to make it out to the Toyota Center tonight, it's mullet night.
Finally, the SI Cheerleader of the Week is from UT
Not much explanation is needed here. Chaps are great.

Gabe Muoneke assaulted after CBA Game
Van Gundy mentioned this during last night's Rockets game. Apparently Liu Wei went after Muoneke with a water bottle (!) after a recent CBA game. He avoided fighting since his family was present. Anyway, it's an unfortunate way for a former Longhorn to make the news.
Mack Brown Love
This Posnanski article only scratches the surface of what most BONers already know, but it's nice to see Mack get the attention. I like how he comes right out and says this:"Mack Brown IS the best college football coach in America. I'm not offering this up as an opinion. I don't even see how anyone else has a case."
Watching the Game in Austin
I wanted to start a thread regarding the best places to watch the Horns beat hell outta ou this Saturday for those of us who unfortunately won't be making the trip up I-35. Standards such as Scholz's and the Tavern are well known, but what other favorites does everyone have here in Austin (especially up north)? Obviously, good TV displays and alcohol are required. To name a couple, I don't expect the Hideout to be too busy...they have a large projection screen with flat screens on the walls. Fowler's has great wings and tons of flat screens, but isn't very comfortable and will have plenty of families and kids in for lunch. Please continue by sharing your thoughts and recommendations on other hotspots. Hook Em!!!!
Josh Smith signs Grizzlies' $58MM Offer Sheet
He'd rather play for Memphis??? This must be the best deal he could find, but Atlanta can still match the offer. This could nicely solidify a young core for the Grizz. So much for all of that cap space, I guess.
Sooner Recruit Jarboe Kicked Off Team for Packing (Heat)
One of OU's '08 WR recruits has been dismissed for gun charges of carrying a pistol at his high school + getting caught by the asst. principal. Apparently, he also likes to rap about shooting people.
Lion's West Point draft pick ordered to give up football
This is a shame, as I was looking forward to seeing this player in action. The article doesn't say much, but his provision to be serve as recruiter while in the NFL has been revoked/superceded by a newer DoD policy.
Can the Mavs renege?
This is probably just wishful thinking. Is there any chance the front office says, "Thank you, Devean, we really dodged a bullet there. We can now keep Harris, Diop's interior help, our draft picks, and avoid another half season of roster tinkering! " Instead, I imagine they're scrambling to find a way to make the trade work. Team chemistry is on the line and Kidd is not the best at helping chemistry. Are the Mavs definitely past the point of no return?
