Buffalo Rumblings BPA Draft

This is just my opinion on how I would like to see the draft enfold.

Round 1: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

At pick 10 I feel 3 QB's will already be gone, as well as both good LT. Why not take one of the best OL prospects in years. I know this is a strong part of out team already but Nix is huge on BPA and I think this is what is there at 10

Other possibilities: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford, Whitney Mercilus DE/OLB, Illinois

Round 2: Nick Foles, QB, Arizona

Not ready to play just yet, but great athlete, arm strength, and intelligence. Needs to improve some accuracy issues. Has an absolute cannon for an arm.

Other Possibilities: Jared Crick, DE/DT, Nebraska, Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech

Round 3: Ronnell Lewis, DE/OLB, Oklahoma

Pass rush needs to improve. Player with a great motor, from a great program. Situational pass rusher to start the season, starter by the end of the year.

Other Possibilities:Johnathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State, Jonathan Massaquoi, DE/OLB, Troy

Round 4: Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Fast down field threat, need to get better running routes, good hands, better speed.

Round4: Leonard Johnson, CB, Iowa State

Good speed/size. Add to depth in a depleted secondary.

Round 5: Terrell Manning, OLB, N.C. State

Depth, Depth, Depth

Round 6: Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette

Good size, fits the TE mold that Gailey likes.

Round 7: Malik Jackson, OLD/DE Tennessee

Probably doesn't make the roster, but bring in to push others at rush linebacker.

Buffalo Rumblings Few thoughts, trying to stay positive!

Just really wondering why we have Brad Smith returning kicks?  No doubt that he is a very physically talented player, but I feel like we have a few other better options on the team.  Spiller for one, he's one of the fastest players on the field at anytime, and he has shown flashes when he has the ball.  Another option would be go back to McKelvin.  We all know he can be dynamic returning, minus a few hiccups in the past.  Finally one of the best returners I've ever seen in a Bills uniform...McGee! The speed might not be the same but he has a vision for holes, I know it's been a few years, but better than Smith.

Also on the topic of Brad Smith, if we are going to use him...use him! Don't bring him out a few times a game for a one yard run, leave those runs for the most talented player on our team Freddy....let Smith throw the ball once in a while!!! He has a good arm, and people need to respect his running ability, and his passing ability!

As far as our receivers go I feel like for a bunch of high round/ undrafted guys they have played well...Stevie is Stevie, even though he has been a bit banged up as of late.  David Nelson is a true diamond in the rough, and with Roosevelt you get what you get. He is very young, and very raw.  Donald Jones how ever has not played well at all IMO.  You are taught as a receiver if it hits your hands, you catch it!! He has had way too many go through his hands and into the other teams.  We have no down field threat on this roster, time to bring in a practice squad guy and see what he can do...it's what we've done with most of our other receives why not try it again.

With our defense the loss of Merriman really did hurt us...his stats weren't great but at the time we were causing turnovers left and right he was forcing the opposing QB to be uncomfortable and make bad throws.  He was defending the run well and being a good leader on the defense.  He needs to be back next year.  Having Kyle Williams will help as well, but Merriman was generating a much better pass rush than we have right now.

I don't even know what we could possibly do with the O-line besides ride it out and draft draft draft next year...can't do much when 3-4 guys are out of the game.  Bell is injured far too often, even though I think he is a good player, he needs to go...we also need to think about replacing Wood. Fantastic player, just injured too much.  Levitre needs to stay at LG, its great that he can really be a solid, consitant, and extremely durable player,  he just isn't a LT or a C..pay the man and keep him a Bills, just keep him at LG.

This is a rough patch right now fellow fans, but its not of the norm in Buffalo...lets just get some players healthy and enjoy the rest of the season as best as possible.  Chan is a smart coach...I feel he will right the ship (some) as soon as he has some more of the starters back.

I think this is a good move that we should pounce on right away!

Buffalo Rumblings If we move to 3-4, let's get this guy!

Joey Porter said on Rome is Burning, that if his role was to be limited next year as it was this year, that he would force a trade.  This would be the perfect guy to bring in if we switch to 3-4, he has all the attitude that he can back up with great play, and could coach this team on the field.  If he isn't getting a lot of playing time, it's possible he could be picked up for decently cheap.

Hell even if we don't go to a 3-4 I would still like to get him, let me know what you think.

Buffalo Rumblings The next QB

The Philadelphia Eagles are finally starting to see some life from their controversial off season signing.  Michael Vick is starting to shed some of that prison rust off, and play a little closer to his former self.  In the past two weeks he has 3 TD's (2 rushing, and 1 through the air) in very limited playing time.  Over the next 3 weeks as the Eagles solidify a playoff spot, and possibly win the NFC East, Vick could start to see more and more playing time to save McNabb for a stint in the playoffs.  I would love to see him play more so that 1.) he can continue to get back to his former self. and 2.) to see if his production is a result of him not having the ball much, thus less chances to turn it over.

Our Bills need a QB for the future from this upcoming draft, without a doubt.  I for one would like to see the FO build the lines first and foremost, and play with a veteran QB for a year or two, then replace him with the future QB.  The problem is that Vick isn't a FA, and the FA's that will be available...well, no thank you.  We also know that none of the QB's on the current rosters can, or should be starting next year.

Why sign Vick?  Well how else does the FO sell season tickets?  The fan base needs something to get excited for, for them to continue to purchase tickets in a piss-poor economic time.  Last year was the T.O. signing, which helped to sell the most season tickets since our glory days.  Now what?  We've tried the 1st round QB signing, we've tired the HC change, and we've tried the FO change.  They all sparked some excitement and caused people to continue to purchase tickets, but we've seen it all before.  We've also tried the big name FA QB,  but the FO at the time screwed that up, by not putting a team around our 4000 yard passer.

So what would it cost to get Vick?  Well right now I think he could be picked up for a 3rd, and maybe a late round pick too.  The problem is if he continues to show some life in a limited roll that price would go up, and seeing how we don't have anymore Pro-Bowl LT's to barter with, a 1st rounder is too much IMO.  So if we could swing him for a 3rd and 7th, or possibly a future draft pick, we could take the best OL/ DL with our #1, and then see what is available for a QB in rounds 2-4.

Now I like Vick, and I know he is a terrible passing QB.  The fact is though he is a play maker, he can buy 2nd, or 3rd chances to find the open guy, or break off a great run.  Besides gaining some fan excitement, I think it would help the players too.  Maybe T.O. decides to stay another year, I wouldn't mind.

Buffalo Rumblings The Deep Pass

Before last nights game, T.O. had looked like his former self. (14 catches for 293 yards and 2 TD's)  Yet last night T.O. faced arguably the best corner in the game in Darrelle Revis, and got shutdown by him for the second time this season.  I love the fact that PF and AVP are focusing on getting T.O. the ball, and it is important we get him the ball.  The problem I have with it is that when Owens is being covered by a guy like Revis (who has shutdown basically everyone he has faced) why force him the ball deep, when we have another extremely talented WR on the opposite side of the field?  One of the first plays of the game was a deep pass to Evans that if not for a diving effort on the CB's part goes for 6.  Yet for what I saw we never tried to go deep to Evans again.  Evans is a great deep threat, he has proven it if given the opportunity.

I love T.O., and I would love to have him back for another season.  The only thing that worries me is that if we only focus on T.O., when its time for him to go, Evans could walk as well.

Buffalo Rumblings Continuity will lead to success with Buffalo

Since the 1998 season, the Buffalo Bills have had four head coaches (1997 being the last year that Marv Levy coached).  Essentially, each coach has had three years to try and put this Bills team in the playoffs (and, in far dreamier parts of the plan, win a championship. The lone exception was Mike Mularkey, who only gave himself two seasons. Wade Phillips was the only one of these coaches to get us to the playoffs, and he did it in the first two seasons after Levy retired. Every season since then, this team has not been able to play games past the regular season. This is why I believe that a fifth year of Dick Jauron might be the best thing for this team.

Take a look at Jeff Fisher, a very respected and tenured coach. (I doubt he will be gone after this season, even if his team only wins 3 games.)  When he first started coaching the Titans/Oilers in 1994, he was promoted mid-season to head coach. Finishing out the season a very dismal 1-5, the Oilers decided to retain him the following season. He then went on to produce a very Jauron-ish 31-33 record over the next four seasons. The years that followed made Fisher's career. In 1999 - a season that will burn in Bills history forever - Fisher put together the missing pieces and assembled a team that lost the Super Bowl by one yard. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke season, they went on to finish the next season 13-3 as well.

I understand that Jauron's coaching history is terrible, but so was Bill Belichick's as a head coach before coming to New England. My point is that I feel that this team is a GM and a few players away from getting over that hump. I really believe that Jauron has started to build this team in the right direction.  A good draft, and a decent free agent signing or two, and this team will be a serious contender. But all this will be negated by a regime change. We've seen new regimes gut this team before, and it has yet to work. Continuity is a key reason I think that Jauron should come back for another season.  It is also one of the reasons Ralph Wilson brought him back in the first place.
