Breaking down the QBs in the draft
Really good article breaking down the issues with Locker. What he likes about Andy Dalton, etc...
I want to warn you guys, there is a comparison to Smith in regards to Locker...YIKES.
Jimmy Raye was actually....Good?
One can only hope that the Dolphins hire that loser.
I can't believe his name is actually popping up for open OC jobs. I saw this article linked on an ESPN Insider article and I couldn't help but laugh. It just goes to show you that sometimes PROFESSIONAL writers are no more knowledgable than your average fan.
Get ready to see Singletary return in 2011
Good article from Ann Killion on Denise York and why we could and probably will see Singletary return.
While Jed states that price isn't an issue, and he will be making changes at year end, it's not his money, and his mom is a complete tight wad so we will probably see Singletary and his army of 20 assistants return for another year.
Back to Alex Smith
This team has no direction.
Jimmy Raye Exit Interview
Please read, I'm actually surprised by how everyone has glossed over the fact that he specifically says "I was carrying out the head coach's wishes," Raye said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "I was doing what I was brought here to do under his philosophy he wanted installed. I tried as best I could to carry that out with the quarterbacking and the personnel that we had. I didn't come in and say, 'This is my offense, and I'm running this, and if you don't like it, you can get somebody else.' I was doing what was given me to do."
Seems like it's Sings vision but I think we all knew that. Let's hope he has realized that it won't work, and let Mike Johnson open it up a little. I think Sing realized, it was Raye, or him.
Alex Smith Haters please sit down
This is insider protected, but a GREAT article about how Smith is going to have a great year. They analyzed his stats last year, and how good he did compared to others, for instance how his YPA (Yard Per Attempt) were better than Manning, and how his throws over 30 yards were BEST in the league.
It's written by KC Joyner whom I respect. I don't know the rules about copying and pasting other people's work, especially if ESPN wants you to pay for it, maybe Fooch or one of the other moderator that know more than I do regarding it can enlighten us, or cut and paste as they see fit.
Brady and the 49ers
I think it's next to impossible of happening...but what if? What if Brady doesn't sign an extension? He has a year left on his contract then Free Agency. What if he forces a trade to the Niners? I mean, this COULD happen. With all the QBs going back and forth over the last two years I suppose there is a chance. He grew up liking the Niners, prefers to be in CA, and we have a team just waiting for a top tier QB....
Oh and also a little blip on Taylor Mays and Jerry Rice...
Anthony Davis a 3rd rounder?
I can't believe nobody has posted, linked, or commented on this at all? Unless I missed it somewhere but I have been in Vegas since Thursday so a little bit off the grid. Cowboys accidentally posted a picture of their draft board online, and you can clearly see A. Davis as a 3rd Rounder. Cowboys were one of the teams we were afraid were going to trade up for him. Obviously that wasn't going to happen but it still left the Packers. Personally, I'm glad we got the guy we targeted, but interesting to finally see what a draft board looked like. Funny how different teams can be.
Link below is to Barrow's site, as I want to give him credit for where I read it.
http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/49ers/archives/2010/05/were-49ers-too.html
This link is to the Miami Heralds site where he explains how the board works, and you can click on picture to enlarge. Basically it's top to bottom, left to right, with far left colum is 1st round, next column is 2nd round, and so forth. The names you can't read on computer print out are people that weren't drafted, when they were they hand wrote the name, and how picked them, and when. Makes it easy to find your top rated guys left on the board.
This is what he was able to make out after the jump....
See...even Vegas has us winning the Division
It's Insider blocked, but basically for NFC West it has us at 9 wins, Arizona at 7.5, Seattle at 7, and the Rams at 5.
Top teams were Colts (11), Chargers and Saints (10.5).
Bottom teams were Bills, Bucs, Raiders, Lions (5.5) and Browns and Rams (5).
What do you guys think about this? Pretty fair at 9 wins or would you take the over.
Kiper's Big Board - Drew your thoughts?
This is Insider Protected, so most of you won't be able to see it, but curious as to people's thoughts.
Scouts take on Trent Williams
I know I'm one of the only people to like Trent Williams on NN, but I thought this was an interesting article. Hopefully some people will start to see the light and stop grading him as a LT. This guy is athletic, and will be a GREAT RT.
FOOCH is being cited by Barrow's
Good job Fooch.
YAHOO MOCK DRAFT
Just wanted to post this. I found it interesting that it had the Niners picking BEFORE the CAR pick meaning they would finish with a better record than us. Also, it had us taking a Guard with that pick. Not so sure about that one. Definitely sad we missed Sergio Kindle with first pick, and Mays/Berry.
Overall, hated the draft. Dez Bryant #1 REALLY? The dude is suspended for the rest of the year. Also only 1 QB in 16 picks. It seems like QBs are always underrated in mock drafts only to see like 3-4 go in top 15 picks.
Second Guessing
Is anyone else starting to second guess what the Niners are doing here? I want to open this up for discussion because by keeping up with all the posts I feel like the Niners are making some big mistakes, and due to the fact that it's spread out over 15 posts it's getting a bit watered down. Let's see if I can hit each one individually after the jump....

Crabtree Highlights....Let's get EXCITED for our NEW WR
10forTech posted this in the Crabtree post but I thought I would throw it up here so we can all get excited for our new WR. GOD I'M SOOOOO EXCITED TO SEE HIM GET ON THE FIELD!!!!
Crabtree to Cowboys?
Do you guys think that Crabtree was the player to be traded or was possibly the target? Maybe we went after DeMarcus Ware and were offering a draft pick and Jones wanted Crabtree. TOTALLY makes sense to me especially since Maicco reported that we were on the phones trying to make a trade. What do you guys think?
Raye Bandwagon?
So when do we start to jump off the Raye Bandwagon? Is it just me or is his play calling just absolutely BORING? How many times do you want to run the ball in a row when you are losing yardage? I mean, when you DARE a defense to stop you when you tell them you are going to run, you actually have to have a solid offensive line. I mean, you can't say, I'm gonna run, I dare you to stop me, when you have a mediocre line at best. Consider this a thread where we can dissect Raye's playcalling. Are you guys still on board with him or no? Me, I'm starting to turn on him. It wasn't just because we ran the ball 3 times to end the game only getting 4 yds. I mean, we have been winning due to our defense, so why wouldn't we do it again. But imagine if we had a decent offense. One that showed good balance with the pass. It always seems like we are passing either 10 times in a row, or running 10 times in a row. I just don't feel like there is any balance at all, and if we are gonna run, we better have a probowl line not a revolving door at RT, or Barry Sims as our backup LT. So are you guys ok with our playcalling? Still ok with Raye, ready to invite him back next year?
I didn't include a "need more time" option because I want you to lean one way or another.
SERIOUS!!!
Not sure how many people have read this article but I feel like a LOT of this Crabtree stuff is starting to come to the forefront. I'm sure you all saw the articles on ESPN about Crabtree but this one was pretty interesting because it got into just how serious this whole mess is. As much as I'm upset about what the Jet's could have possibly done, and as much research as I have done, I honestly never really comprehended the gravity of what the Jet's did. This article really breaks it down like...THIS IS A BIG DEAL!!!!
Anyone going to be in AZ for SF game this weekend?
Hey Niner fans....is anyone going to be in AZ this weekend and going to the game? I am flying there just for the game on Friday night. I should be at the game EARLY and wanted to see if anyone wanted to tailgate before or hit up the bars that are right next to stadium after? I am going with an AZ fan who is a buddy of mine and meeting up with some other Niner fans but I'd LOVE to have more Niner fans than AZ fans and just totally hijack his day. We are gonna be playing beer pong before so if anyone is down to meet up send me an email to sean.huddleston@yahoo.com or respond on this post.
Thanks!! GO NINERS!!!
Bye Bye Bradford
Now that Bradford sprained his AC Joint in his throwing shoulder do you guys think there is any way we would draft him and go down that road again? It's thought to be a Grade 2 or 3 sprain that will NOT require surgery. Where have we heard that before? I think it's safe to say that just wiped the #1 QB off our draft board. I just think there is no way we will go down that road again, a #1 draft pick QB with history of shoulder injuries (and yes I think Bradford goes #1 in draft).
Let me know what you think....
Jagodzinski FIRED!
Jeff Jagodzinski the Offensive Coordinator for Tampa Bay was fired today due to what a team source said as conflict that had been building over coaches and players not agreeing with his coaching philosophies and teaching methods. The same source mentioned how he was more cut out to be a Head Coach vs OC and that he wasn't even calling his own plays. For those of you that don't remember, he was in the running to be OUR Offensive Coordinator and I was one of them that wanted him. One main question I wanted to get out there...Could you even imagine if we hired him then fired him before the regular season? We have had so much turnover with the OC position that this would have just completely killed my ability to believe in Ownership and GM of the Niners. I give them the benefit of the doubt ALWAYS but I don't know if I could have taken that. How about you guys/gals out there? That would have just been too much for me to handle. I think it's safe to say that we would have been lumped in right next to the Raiders as a team that just can't get it together. Here's to hoping Jimmy Raye is the answer and he sticks around for a while.
Brett Favre staying retired: Effect on 49ers-Vikings?
FOOCH'S NOTE 4:55PM: As much as I don't care about Brett Favre staying retired or not, hudd07 raises an important discussion point, thus the reason for the promotion (and adjusted title hudd07). This thread is not about whether you like Brett Favre or not. It's about the Vikings-49ers matchup.
What does this mean for our game vs. the Vikings? I think that could be put down as a W for us now. That's good news for us. My opinion is the Vikings drop at least 4-5 spots in the rankings which should put them in the late teens which is where I think the Niners should be. Could be an interesting matchup now.
