Denver Stiffs Mr. J.R. Smith

First off, i wanna say I am a Nets fan, not a Nuggets fan. But you guys had an outstanding draft so congrats on that. But over on Netsdaily there has been lots of debate about us signing J.R. I believe he is a knucklhead who will never realize his true potential but others say he's too talented to pass up on.

What do you guys say?

1. Will the Nuggets let him walk?

2. How much talent does he really have?

3. It it worth signing him and taking his stupidity?

NetsDaily The Realistic, Ideal Offseason in a picture game....

This, in my opinion, would be an ideal off season. Each player is shown in the form of pictures. Some, just the last name, some both names. The order goes: draft, signings, and trades. This should be fun.

The Nets off season, from the draft, should go as follows:

1. Draft:

Thumbnail_aspx_medium

Cut_medium

AS WELL AS:

Sing_medium

Ler-logo6_medium

2. Free Agency:

Sign:

Ak47_1_medium

(This is not a reference to J.R. Smith)

Ad well as:

Aflac_medium Buffalo_20wild_20wings-thumb-342x238_medium

(This one's tough)

And re-signing this guy:

Humptydumptylogo_medium

And for trades, let's at least ONE of these guys:

Josh-peck-4_medium

Locksmith_20teeth_medium

AND OF COURSE:

Superman_medium

This would be a great off season, if you ask me.

NetsDaily Deron Williams home debut

Monday, i expect to see the most Nets fans at a Nets game in a long time. I know im going and im sure a lot of other people are but how many?

1. Do we expect to see a sell out?

2. Does VC get a standing O?

3. Does Dwill get a standing O?

This game will be very interesting. We got our new franchise player, and the Suns already have a great PG and former Net. Any thoughts on what you expect?

On another note, i heard the sections 22 and 21 have great entertainment and a view of the game. Can anyone tell me what the expierence is like in this area?

Liberty Ballers ask a Nets fan!

So the Sixers and Nets play today and im sure you are all bursting with questions about the best team in the league, lol. So i'm here to answer some questions to the best of my ability about anything regarding the Nets. You should know we've had a tough early schedule, and our record isn't really a representation of how good we are as a team. So, let me know about your questions, and i look forward to a good game tonight

NetsDaily This is getting out of control...

It seems like every single game, every single play, every single NetsDaily member is either loving or trashing a player. One bad game, trade him, one good game, send him to the hall of fame, one decent game, ignore him, one missed game, call him weak and a wimp? I just don't get it. It's almost aggravating to go on to game threads and postgame analysis threads just because half the comments are completely inaccurate.

Examples:

Lopez is a bad player TRADE, thats right TRADE him- Lopez is an all star this year. His rebounding and passing may be weak, but he's nowhere near his peak. Trade him? A few bad games? What happened to that consistent 20 point triple team drawer?

Hump is a franchise player- Hump is a good, solid player, and if given time can a 11/13 type guy in 40 minutes. Is he a franchise player who is untouchable? I don't think so

Outlaw stinks- After 3 games, most of us were trashing him for being a poor shooter, not making good shots, running like a donkey. Everything you could possibly imagine wrong with him gets mentioned. Now, he's playing a little better and guess what? The haters have been silenced

Morrow is not a good shooter- enough said

Harris is not essential to this team's success- 5 minutes without him and we completely struggle.

Guys, i'm not trying to be mean, but please, please can we give a player, a team, a coach, a owner, a fan, some time before we judge them?? PLEASE!!

UPDATE (from NetsDaily). PLEASE READ...

Obviously, the minute-to-minute reactions/bashing and the complaining about it is an issue that’s coming to a head.

First, I’m not going to allow these types of FanPosts every day. The best way to combat irrational comments is to post rational ones. I believe that most people here are smart and patient, and the intelligent discussion will rule if you act that way and rec the other comments you like.

Second, I will tolerate comments like this, where you ask for patience, etc. I will NOT tolerate the following: “Nets fans are a joke,” “Nets fans are stupid,” etc.

Make your point and argue respectfully without hurling insults or trying to belittle the opinions of others.

Finally, I think that Game Threads aren’t for everybody. But we make an effort to post the recap quickly after the final buzzer. And clearly, the commentary in the recaps are more rational. So if the stuff in the Game Thread is frustrating you, just wait until the game is over and post your thoughts in the recap.

Thanks.

NetsDaily Observations about the new look Nets

These few things have astounded me over the course of these first three games. I think this tiny share of games has told us a great deal about the Nets.

Jordan Farmar and his winning attitude have been critical late in games and in pressure situations. I had never thought that Farmar could be such an asset to this team. I appreciate his late game heroics against Detroit (big three when we were down 95-88, steal following possession, defense on Stuckey to force turnover) and then in the Kings game where again he was huge with his defense and passing ability.

I expected a better Ammo/ Twill. Maybe it’s one starting and the other not, maybe it’s still get used to their new team, but either way I want to see Triple double Twill and sharp shooter Morrow return back to their best form.

Brook has been a monster. Not that I didn’t expect it, but I really didn’t think he would be this good right from the get go.

Avery is a good coach. The way this team goes about it’s business on offense and defense tells me they are being coached by a winner. Johnson has helped this team battle when they’re losing and shown them how to be responsible on D.

The energy Prudential Center has is outstanding. Wow. The Rock has, for the most part, the same fans yet is a 100x better environment and just seems like a real home court advantage.

Anything else, guys (and girls)?

NetsDaily 4 keys to beating the Heat, which we will

Heat vs. Nets tomorrow. I'm buzzing with excitement. But how do we beat them, you ask? Simple. Reinforce the fundamentals of basketball and expand on them.

Our turnovers vs the Kings slowed the rate of the game and caused us to never get into a flow in the second half, besides that game winning 3 minute stretch.(not to mention the whistle every 5 seconds, literally)

So key number 1: Decrease turnovers, increase shot attempts.

When we struggling to get the ball, we were strugggling to take shots. This team is filled with shooters- from Anthony Morrow to Jordan Farmar to Travis Outlaw. These guys will hit their shots and the only way that happens is by trying to take the shot, no? Turnovers killed us as well. 27? Thats not clean basketball by any stretch. A Miami team will blow us out by 50 if thats the case. Limit those turnovers at least get some shots up to give us a chance.

Lopez/Harris need to be Lopez/Harris+- Brook has been a monster. An absolute monster. Devin has been outstanding. Both have had a great couple of games. Not only does that need to continue, that needs to get better. We need 25 point games from each and we need Brook to dominate foul calls. He needs to rack up the fouls, and Devin needs to penetrate. Why do these 2 need to play the best of our team you ask? Two reasons. One, they are our captains. They reflect who we are. Followers follow leaders. Lopez and Harris are the leaders. Second reason is because they are the ones who can cause double teams. Brook will imediately see shades of doubles and triple team so we need to get him to kick it out or draw fouls. Same for Devin, except it mainly applies for him when he drives and breaks the D down. We need to take advantage of our shooters.

Solid bench production- This is an area where we can thrive. If theres one thing we are better at miami in, it's bench play. yes, they will always leave one of the big 2 in (because Bosh we can handle) for the most part, but thats when our bench players go at them. If we force the issue with the bench and cause some fouls and frustration our better starting lineup can come up big for us.

Defense- No comment. Stop Bron as best you can. Stop Wade as best you can. Stop that overrated turkey who cant get more than 12 points because he's actually on a good team and not a bad team that he couldn't take to the playoffs despite have a supporting cast. stop House cuz hes always deadly against us. Nuff said.

Pinstripe Alley To Lee, or not to Lee?

The offseason has started for the Yankees, and that comes with the Cliff lee talks. In all likliehood, Lee wants a long term deal from 5-7 years ranging from 100-150 million dollars. The ace lefty is reportadely looking for the place where he gets the best contract, and in that case, we all know the Yankees can outbid anyone. If Texas wins, then the Yankees are forced to look elsewhere, as Lee may see more in Texas than he does in New York. That will then present itself as an issue.

If we cannot obtain Lee, we save the hassle of having an aging 30 something year old pitcher and we can use the money to go get someone else. But with this being said, there is no one else on the free agent market that is capable of fulfilling the pitching needs the Yankees have shown they desperately need. So many problems arise when discussing Cliff Lee, and 5 years 125 million may seem absurd for a guy who could not be able to adjust to the spotlight and become bad for us. Plus, we would have the pressure of knowing we are spending millions and millions of dollars on Arod, Jeter, Tex, CC, Mo, AJ, etc. and that it is almost imperative we win it all.

So, while Lee offers the much much desperate pitching relief we need ( if we don't him, i vomit at the thought of getting Greinke) he maybe too expensive and his risk and aging also become problems. What do the Yankees do? I would at least negotiate something and whatever happens, happens. If he wants more than 5 years, i say no. If he wants more than 125 mil, i say no. if he gladly accepts the 5/125, i say welcome to the Yankees, we will see you come opening day and that's that.

Pinstripe Alley Did Tex getting hurt just help us?

Before Texiera got hurt, he was pretty bad in the playoffs. Besides his usual dazzling D, his offense had been ugly. I bleive he did not pick up a hit the entire postseason so far. This weakened the whole lineup, especially with Arods cold bat. Swish/Grandy didn't get protection from the 3 spot, and that created weakness going down.

Moving Cano up to three gives the number 2 hitter protection, and some more runners on base situations for Alex. Now, you can move Thames or Swisher or Berkman or any good power hitter to the five hole, and suddenly you get production in both spots. Robby has thrived at the 3, and ihope he stays there come next season.

So, anyways the lineup finally did something on offense in game 5, and our defense gets hurt but not as much as our offense gets some benefits. Maybe this is a gift from god? Lets go take care of business tonight!

Pinstripe Alley Arod, tex, and Girardi need to be better for us

These are the three reasons we are not winning this series right now. The middle of the lineup has been simply awful, with Alex and Mark just simply struggling. Last postseason, Tex wasn't good, but Alex was outstanding. He should have won the World series MVP but didn't because everyone is a hater. Girardi and staff made a really stupid move starting hughes in game 2. i would have been sensible about this, and started Andy. Yes, he had bad numbers at Rangers ballpark, but he is a big time vet, and i think we all knew it was going to be difficult to beat lee. Look at what happened. Instead of being up 2 games to 1, were down. Now, we turn to AJ in the biggest situation this season. I desperately hope he comes through for us (i think he will) and we take a 3-2 lead at home, because the Rangers are tough to beat at home. Thoughts?

NetsDaily OMG: Shaq calls Lopez a new Tim Duncan!

Lopez takes on O'Neal

What started out as a pretty unfortunate night for Brook Lopez following a fender-bender in his BMW near the Lincoln Tunnel, ended up evening out by the end of the first quarter against Boston.

In total, Lopez logged 23 points and four rebounds in 25 total minutes, but went right at Celtics big man Shaquille O'Neal from the beginning. Post moves that were absent on Sunday in the team's first scrimmage were out in full force against the 7-1 325-pound big man.

"He is like Tim Duncan," O'Neal said after the game. "Classy guy. You'll never hear a bad word about him. Great player."

But what surprised some turned out to be just the next installment in a matchup between O'Neal and Lopez that has yielded pretty good results for the Nets center over the last three years.

Against the Suns in 2008-09, Lopez averaged 24.5 ppg and the Cavaliers in 2009-10 Lopez averaged 21.5 ppg -- both on the higher end of his season totals.

Thursday, though, turned out to be good enough to earn some extra praise from Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, who never had an up close and personal look at the two facing off before.

"I even enjoyed the Shaq vs. Brook matchup," Rivers said. "Shaq scored on Brook and then Brook went right back down and scored on Shaq. I like seeing young guys do that, even though he isn't on my team it was nice to say.

"Brook Lopez is going to be great if he continues to work. Right now, Brook is the picture of the Nets, he is the guy. He is tough and works hard.

WOW Brook really demanding respect across the league. Shaq is egotistical and for him to call Lopez one of the greatest big men EVER, in Tim Duncan means a ton. Rivers and Oneal's analysis of Brook was shocking. It was what Nets fans think of him as... a beast. A dominant, great center. He was fabulous against Boston in the preseason and the Nets looked good. Around Brook, we build!

NetsDaily let's shred the Knicks!

I was recently on BR and was posting some comments on an article about why melo shouldnt be a Net. anyways, a poster was on there trashing the Nets and making his Knicks seem so great. Bringing up those crazy points, we won 12 last year, our coach didnt win the finals, having a billionaire owener is nothing, we struck out in FA while they got that overpaid "stud".

I was hoping oyu guys could help me out by just writing some little blurbs about why the Knicks organization is not as much compared to the Nets, and just trash them. i would put my work with all the things that get posted and us ND posters could possibly use a long list of strongly worded reasons that bring down the Knicks when the matter happens to occur.

I know this isn't Nets related in every aspect but as Nets fans we always deal with these dumb articles about why our rivals our SO GOOD. Im tired of it, and as the best Nets blog possibly of all time, i thought we could unite to form this reasoning. Thanks guyss!

Oh, and as some examples of what this guy said:

First of all, Brooklyn is not Madison Square Garden, never will it be more famous. All the owners in the NBA are "rich" so don't use that BS excuse. The Nets had their time when they were better than the Knicks, but that trend ended when they won only 12 games last year.

Terrence Williams showed flashes of being a good player in a couple of games, but so have Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, etc.

Morrow is not going to be Ray Allen type. Morrow is a great shooter, but not as versatile as Ray Allen was. Danilo Gallinari is closer to being another Dirk than Morrow is to being another Ray Allen.

Now don't overrate Lopez. He's a decent center and did as well as he did because he was on a bad team. His numbers were inflated, so stop with that.

Now if Chris Paul were to choose between playing for the Knicks and Nets, he'd take the Knicks. He's said in a toast that he would like to make a big 3 with "Amar'e and Melo" and seeing as Amar'e is better than Lopez by strides, everyone can see why. BTW, show me the sources that said Chris Paul is going to the Nets

And also:

Really? Terrence Williams has a good 2 months and he's considered to be a core player? Well, Wilson Chandler should be included for the Knicks since he's average 15 and 5 consistently throughout the year for the Knicks. Also, Kelenna Azubuike who is a better all around player than Morrow. Let's also not forget Raymond Felton, who is a better defender and passer than Devin Harris. Toney Douglas will wipe the floor with Farmar, Outlaw would be a 3rd string SF for the Knicks and James hasn't even played an NBA game for you to determine that.

Now the billionaire owner thing is a really stupid argument. There's a cap system in the NBA, which prevents the Nets owner from spending as much money as he wants to get players to go. By the way, how did he do when it came to free agency? He struck out on all the top free agents and even wanted Amar'e. Guess no one didn't want to play for a team that only won 12 games.

Your winning coach inherited a stacked Mavs team and didn't even win a championship. Also, he was the same coach who let an 8 seed embarrass his team and eliminate them from the playoffs in the 1st round. Shows how a good a coach he is. At least our coach has gotten out of the 1st round more than once.

I already went through this, no need to explain anymore. The Knicks core is much better than the Nets

NetsDaily Melo not a Net, but how will the non-trade drama affect a young NJ team?

Well, this point has already been brought up in the past, but i figured i should explore it in a little more detail. The trade that would've gotten us Carmelo Anthony would have taken Harris, Favors, and possibly Ross off the roster, and we would have gotten back a young PG, in Augistin and a proven superstar in Anthony.

With the trade not going through, and the Nets roster nearly 100% set for opening night, how will this have affected guys like a very sensitive Devin Harris, and a 3rd overall pick who thought he was actually untouchable? Will devin suddenly lose that trust in the Nets and Avery and become a depleted player, or will it fire him up and make him play like the way he did last time Avery Johnson's team gave up on him?

And what about Favors, a soft spoken rookie just trying to become his best? in my opinion it wont make a difference to him, but it very well could damage his self esteem and possibly hurt his development.

I perosnally am not too worried about it, i think they will both be very good for us this year, but it certainly can't be something great for the guys who really will be building blocks in our future core of;

Harris

Morrow

Twill

Favors

Lopez

Thoughts?

NetsDaily How good can Twill become?

Terrence Williams is a player everyone knows about. He is a game changer, a ball handler, a play maker, and an energizer when at the top of his game. We saw this late last year when he showed flashes of guys like Andre Igudola, Rudy Gay, and at times the freakish athlete of LeBron James. He showed he can do a little bit of everything that a team needs from scoring to driving to passing to getting some steals. And again, that point comes up, why trade a guy like Twill when he has loads of talent and potential and is just waiting for a full season and a complete starting role (not to mention some coaching) to show it off. So, how good can Terrence be? Lets take a bit of a deeper look.

Terrence Williams at his best reminds us all of three players: some Kidd, some Iggy, and a little bit of Rudy Gay. His biggest weakness is shooting, and strangely enough these three have always struggled with their shots. This being said, his uncanny ability to get the ball down the middle and penetrate(all three), his ability to finish strong (Iggy/Gay), his knack for finding the open man with a sweet dish(Kidd) and his ability to make those scintillating plays that sends chills down your back(Kidd) make him one of the easiest players to help sculpt into something truly great.

According to nbadraft.net, Twills weaknesses are "Although he has improved his 3-point shooting over his collegiate career from 31% to 38% his senior year, he will really need to continue his development at the NBA level. His offensive game remains his biggest weakness as he struggles to put points on the board consistently ... If his shot isn't dropping and an athletic defender is keeping him from getting to the rim, his offensive game goes into the tank ... Also needs to improve his ability to drive in the lane with his off-hand as well as continuing to develop his ball-handling ... These will be particularly important if he wants to play the 2 at the next level ... Sometimes likes to go for the "highlight" reel play instead of just making the easy play, and seems too relaxed when he's out on the court ... Can fade in and out of games. Needs to develop a killer instinct at all times ."

Last year we saw him improve these things already: better ball handling, some smarter plays, a little more offensive diversity. If he can continue putting in the work into developing a solid jump shot, he suddenly becomes a player who becomes very hard to handle on a nightly basis. With a normal coach, and a little discipline maybe he can turn into a go to guy, and make for a sure fire deadly combination in the pick and roll with himself and our prized center.

His weaknesses are some of the easiest to improve on. In fact, looking at the ebst players in the NBA, almost all of them started with a good mid range game or inside game, but were then forced to become better shooters. Look at guys like LeBron, Duncan, Wade, and in the old days that Michael Jordan guy.

These strengths, according to draft express.com STRENGTHS:- Executes offensively- Transition play- Versatility- Ability to contest shots- Ability to get in passing lanes- All-around defense- Lateral quickness- Versatility to defend multiple positions- Energy/Intensity- Experience- Physical Toughness- Potential- Role-player potential- High-level productivity- Level of competition- Positional versatility- Young for class- Ability to create for others- Assist to turnover ratio- Court vision- Athleticism- Conditioning- NBA body- Size for position- Wingspan- Excellent rebounder- 3-point shooting percentages- Ability to catch and shoot- Improved perimeter shot"

If I gave this info to you and said who am I describing you would tell me who? Deron Williams? Magic Johnson? No, its terrnece Williams but a Terrence Williams who might be hearing a lot about after he really becomes a go to all around player.

According to Nets are scorching, "Obviously, as we’ve seen when he does get the time, Williams does very well.  Looking at his top two months in regards to minutes per game average, in his second-best month (29:53), in 15 March games, T-Will averaged 14.1 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 4.9 APG, 42.9 FG%.  In his best month (34:12), in seven April games, he averaged 14.3 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 6.3 APG, 45.5 FG%.  It’s known that Williams is still kind of an erratic all-around shooter, however, it can’t be denied that T-Will improved nicely in regards to shooting from the field, which came about with more shots per game: 12.1 shot attempts in March and 14.1 shot attempts in April.  Give the man the rock and give it often!"

How can you argue those numbers? How can you are argue Terrence now thriving under Avery?

Accoring to Rick Patino, "Terrence is a Dominique Wilkins type athlete," U of L coach Rick Pitino said. "He's a good passer and is a very physical wing player that will only get better. He's an athletic phenom." ... In high school led his Rainier Beach squad, along with the ultra athletic Stewart twins, to a state championship in 2003"

Dominque Williams? Better than Carmelo, if you ask me.

The only player in each of theses lineups? Not Lopez, not Devin. Terrence Williams. Out top 20 most effective 5 player units all had Terrence Williams. Folks, this is no coincidence. Terrence makes us better as a team, as a whole. At the end of the day that’s what its all about in the end, a better organization. These numbers have so much significance behind them and just reinforce my beginning idea: Keep Terrence, embrace Terrence.

So, my fellow Nets fans, can’t we all agree now about this marvelous talent we have? We have stumbled upon a young man who can do everything for us, and can become an outstanding player, with the right coaching. We must use him at all times, and help him mature and develop. Next year, mark my words Terrence Williams will be the second best Net, if not the first.

These names, either I have made or found, are some of the best I could think of. I personally like the Ballers, Dodgers and Nets and would prefer we got one of those names. The Dodgers would attract non basketball fans as well.

Obviously, under Prokhorov, we have changed everything from the front office to where we play. This news is by no stretch new, but I thought would generate some conversation and let people share their opinion about what the team name should be!

Denver Stiffs What is the best Melo offer?

To start, im not a Nugget fan, but im just wondering what you guys would want in return for Melo? The Nets deal (Harris, TWill, 3 picks, 3mil) for Carmelo and a filler.the Knicks (Curry/Mole face[galiianri]) for Carmelo. The Bulls (Noah, some picks, a filler, cash) for Melo. Or some other team. Or some other deal. Anything that has a chance of happening with some team. I hope to hear good things!

Posting and Toasting Most you would give up for Melo

just wondering, what is the most you guys would give up for melo. im not a Knick fan but i know you are high on Randolph. i was thinking Galo, Chandler, and Curry, but what would you guys give up at very most, reasonably? Would you include Randolph? You make a three team deal? Would you wait until next season to make a move?

NetsDaily Carmelo: Worth the max? Like a ... LeBron??

Melo  being a superstar is debatable. But lets take a deeper look at why, he should not be considered a LeBron

PERs

LeBron-31

Wade -28

Bosh- 25

Kobe- 22

Melo- 22

Durant- 26

Dwight Howard- 25

Despite Melo and Kobe having the same PER, you must consider how Kobe is beginning to reach the end of his prime, whereas Melo is still young and in his prime. This, along with Kobes clutch shooting, ability to score at will, guard anybody, and be a leader makes his game much higher that Carmelos.

As you can see, comparing Carmelo to a LeBron or Wade is outrageous. LeBrons PER is 9, yes 9, higher that Anthony’s and he has more aspects to his game than Anthony too.

So it can be said, Carmelo is a good player but by no means is on a level that Durant, LeBron, and Wade have established. He does not have the same kind of presence on the floor and does not have the same impact, either

NetsDaily Melo to the Nets?

Melo to the Nets?

It is

A)  Likely Melo will stay with the Nuggets ( 30%)

B)  Highly likely his two choices for leaving the Nuggets would be the Nets and Knicks (95%)

C)  Likely he chooses the Nets (47%)

D) Maybe he chooses the Knicks (18%)

E)  Chooses another team (5%)

So the Nets chances at Melo= around 47%

There are some reasons why the Nets are much better destination:

1.   Mikhail Prokorov- The Nets owner will again make his pitch. Become a global icon, be rich, get the stuff he has always wanted. The Knicks can not make this happen for Carmelo.

2.    Brooklyn. Melo and his wife’s home town will always hold a place in his heart and if it means Newark for a year, ( probably less) than who cares, I want to be at home.

3.   The Nets are much better than their competition. They have more pieces and better coaching to attract Carmelo.

4.    The chance to be a franchise player on a new team and possibly play with Chris Paul if a trade happens.

I not only believe this, but around basketball it is being said, Melo would be a nice fit for the Nets:

"But make no mistake: this deal was done with Anthony in mind. The Nets will have around $20 million in cap room next summer when Murphy comes off the books, making them just as plausible a destination for Anthony as the Knicks if Anthony decides not sign the $65 million extension from Denver that's been sitting there for a month. And New Jersey still has a lot of assets -- guard Devin Harris, the 2012 first-round pick it has from Golden State, newly signed guard Anthony Morrow, heck, maybe even Favors -- it can offer in a package to New Orleans for Paul, whom it has been trying to get as well. Not to mention the largesse of Mikhail Prokhorov's wallet, which can write out $3 million checks to other teams for years to come"

This, according to NBA.com.

Accoring to HoopesVibe, Mikhail Prokorov intense hope to begin a rivalry with the Knicks should lead him to perusing Carmelo Anthony with everything he’s got.  He wants to be a winner now, and that should get him Carmelo, not matter what the price.

Billups, and I quote, said this, hinting Melo may leave

"It's between me and my guy.  If y'all have a close personal friend, and they're going through something and the media asks, you're not going to expose that.  Y'all find out when he wants y'all to know.

NetsDaily the Nets....

Grading the Nets offseason:

Ideally:

Draft John Wall- The best prospect since LeBron James

Trade for LeBron Jamesin a sign and trade

Trade for Chris Bosh in a sign and trade

Hire a good coaching staff filled with experience, depth, and winning pasts

Get a bunch of solid role players shooters, rebounders, and hard workers

Get a new, better owner one dedicated to winning

What really happened:

John Wall:

"One of the top prospects in North Carolina's Class of 2009. Wall is extremely difficult to guard and his quickness to the hoop provides issues for defenders. His coming out party was at Reebok U. A speed merchant who specializes in separating himself from defenders, he's one of the fastest risers in his class. The perimeter game is the area needing improvement. Lock high-major prospect and a potential national level recruit."

Derrick Favors

"Could be a potential franchise college player and beyond. Few have the ability to finish with strength and efficiency that he brings. Quiet kid who goes about his business and takes numbers. Excellent student and a high character young man. In contention for many player of the year awards as a junior."

-scouthoops.com

Bottom Line: Despite missing out on Wall, a player who has dazzling ball handling and unheard-of speed and court vision, we picked up a PF who has the potential to be a franchise player. A player who has the strength and humble being to become truly great. In the end, we may have won the draft despite losing out.

Trade for Anthony Morrow

"You always feel it, it's just all about staying poised," he said. "You can't start getting too anxious, like, 'OK, I've got to make the next shot since I made the last one. It's just like keep playing. It's a game of errors, really. You're going to make some mistakes. It's all about staying poised and going out there and doing what you do."

Anthony Morrow said this after a game and its good for the Nets to know they have humble players. Coachable players who will greatly excel under Avery’s system. Morrow has a great shot and more importantly, a great shot to BE great… I expect big things.

Morrow "facts"

FACT: Obama was bowing to Anthony Morrow. (The Big Rebounder, warriorsworld.net)

FACT: What is the sound of one hand clapping? Anthony Morrow applauding himself with his left hand as he knocks down jumpers with his right hand...............from half court. (Slam, RealGM)

FACT: Halley's Comet only comes once every 75 years because it's too scared to face Anthony Morrow. (Slam, RealGM)

FACT: Anthony Morrow missed a jump shot once..................and then God created man. (Slam, RealGM)

FACT: The NBA will be officially changing the term "jump shot" to "Morrow shot" as of the 2009/2010 season and beyond. (Slam, RealGM)

FACT: Anthony Morrow only shoots three pointers because there aren't full court 12 pointers. (Slam, RealGM)

Just shows what other people think of a kid who can become a Ray Allen and a consistent 20 point scorer. Although this all fun, obviously not true, it shows what people have thought of him… honor him like Chuck Norris.

Trade for Murphy

Grade 80/100

Strengths

Weaknesses

Potential

Brings a unique mix of rebounding dominance and excellent shooting range to the power forward spot. Loves to mix it up inside but also plays a good perimeter game (which includes nice passing skills).

For such a big, physical player he isn't much of a defender. Fouls are a problem, as is his tendency to get injured.

Star power forward

Hire a good coaching staff

Grade: 100/100

Coaching staff:

Avery Johnson- Former coach of the year

Sam Mitchell -Former coach of the year

 Larry Krystkowiak former head coach

Popeye Jones 11 years experience

Tom Barrise

John Loyer,

With Avery being a former coach of the year and long time veterans to guide him on his quest or redemption, the Nets will be very well coached. They have a good big man coach and coaches who have dealt with and can handle young players. Out players are very coachable… from the quiet Derrick Favors to the poised Anthony Morrow. And lets not forget, Avery has the best record for a coach ever. He hasn’t had the best experience in the playoffs, but he has learned and we must have faith in the little general.

Better owner

110/100

"For me, life and business, in particular is a big game," Prokhorov told "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft

If you could afford to do anything, would you do daring stunts on a jet ski and hire a production company to put it to music? Maybe not. But Prokhorov is always looking for a challenge.

Asked if he likes danger, Prokhorov said, "I like to control risk."

This guy will be a great, committed owner. Controlling risk? Risk is when you’re team is borderline playoffs and it looks like Mikhail has done a good job assembling a coaching staff and scouts along with GM.  He is already greatly respected all around sports and with his deep pockets should scare other teams about "what we’re going to do next"

Couldn’t have asked for a better owner…

This is with some sense unlike ESPN’s horrible analysts. We have slowly put together an offseason that should be called good maybe even great. If there wasn’t so much hype about LBJ, Wade, and Bosh, everyone would call us winners. So, bottom line, this Nets offseason has been promising now we need to see it to translate on the court.

NetsDaily Starting lineups and rotations....

With the season a few months away, we are still unsure of our rotation. The starting lineup, and even the backups are in the air right now. So my question is, what do you want the starting lineup, going into the season being, along with rotations?

I say…

Harris/Farmar

Morrow/ Lee/James

Twill/ Outlaw/ James

Favors/ Hump

Lopez/ Petro

Dynamic starting lineup, scoring punch and defense off the bench. I know Morrow and Terrence starting will be argued, but I think that Morrow must play with Lopez for the inside out game, and Terrence’s outstanding play making ability late season has earned him a chance to start.

Of all the threes we have, I think Outlaw will start the least, and Twill will start the most. If James can prove himself, he makes some starts too. That’s just my opinion, and again, I know it will be argued.

Morrow starting, even though his game is only shooting, and not much D, is probable just because of how good his shot is. With Lopez drawing a plethora of double teams and triple teams, having players like Morrow who have such a good shot, we could have a deadly inside out game. Also, with Harris and Terrence leading breaks, Morrow can spot up while Favors and Lopez can fill the lane. I think Harris-Lee-Morrow on the court together will happen a lot too because it gives the Nets some more shooting.

The point guard,  center and PF positions are pretty much set if we don’t make any more moves, which I am not counting on because of how desperate the Nets are for a power forward.

The bench could be a strength for us. Farmar will be a solid backup to Harris and has seen the palyoffs multiple times. Lee and Damion James will be the rela punch. The will provide solid D, and consitant scoring for us in the second unit. Outlaw will fill it up from the perimeter, Hump and Petro will be hustle guys and screen setters.

If all goes well, under coach Johnson, the Nets can be really good. Add a guy like Melo via sign n trade, and we are immediately in the top 8 teams in league.

So, that’s my explanation for why I would want this to be the starting lineup with rotations and it will be debated, so I want to hear what you guys have to say and hear your opinion. Thanks!

NetsDaily Thanks but no thanks to CP3

The Chris Paul buzz has been crazy lately, and many think that if we trade for him we are an instant playoff team and are in contention for Carmelo Anthony. But i disagree, and truly hope the trade doesnt happen. Most liekly, this trade would require us to give up Harris TWill/Favors and a plethora of picks.

Reasoning:

1. Devin Harris is an all star. We cannot forget that Devo had an unbelievable season two years ago, playing  under a good coach. Now, we have a great coach and Devin will only get better. Trading Devin plus a player with no ceiling in terms of potential is nuts. Harris has shown he can bounce back from injuries and consistantly be a 21/5/4/2 guy, whereas Paul has not shown he can bounce back from injuries.

Cleveland_cavaliers_v_new_jersey_nets_z_y2qtlrjmil_medium

2. This brings me to point number two, Paul's knee injury. His surgery is difficult to recover from and we have no idea if he can be the Chris Paul we know him to be. When Paul is healthy, he is  probably  the 2nd best PG in the league after Deron Williams. His knee could prove that CP3 doesnt have the ability to regain form and it would be absolutely awful for the Nets future

Ept_sports_nba_experts-296207819-1233680718_medium

3. Taking on Okafors contract would be a hassle. It would cause us to take on a big time salary of a player not deserving of it. The real problem here though, is that Carmelo wouldnt be able to be a Net if the contract was taken on, i believe. This is what i think, although i may be wrong, i just dont want to take this horrible contract for 4 years if it just screws us over when were trying to get other good players.

Carmelo-anthony_medium

4.  What if Chris Paul just leaves in 2 years? We have seen CP3 is trying very hard to get attention and be like LeBron. If we cant get past the first round at least in the next 2 years, we will have just rented Paul for 2 years while giving up Harris and TWill/ Favors. I for one am not taking that risk with this so called superstar.

Chris-paul-air-jordan-xx3-3_medium

5. How much better does Chris Paul and Okafor for Harris/Twil/picks/ cash really make us? A questionable knee and sub par, overpaid players for our future, basically, could come back to bite us. I would rather see two all stars grow in TWill and Favors, to be honest with you.

So, Net fans, please comment and tell me if you feel the same way about renting this selfish, wanna be PG?

NetsDaily My Five Bold Nets Predictions

My Five Bold NJ Nets Predictions: 1. A Net will win most improved player of the year. Either Terrence Williams or Anthony Morrow will win most improved player of the year next year. For Terrence, there is a good chance he will earn a starting role and show of his passing, rebounding and defensive abilities, not to mention some scoring. Anthony Morrow posses a shot yet he can work on so much. Defense, creating his own shot, and passing to name a few. If he ends up starting, he too can show some off some serious skill. 2008620605_medium

via seattletimes.nwsource.com

2. Brook Lopez and Devin Harris will BOTH be all-stars This is probably the most unlikely, but I truly believe if the Nets have a record 7-10 games above .500 (yes, it’s a stretch) they can both make it. Devin Harris has shown all star and hints of superstar ability, and Brook Lopez has been a dominant center in his first 2 years. New_jersey_nets_v_los_angeles_lakers_zzje_urf93tl_medium

via www3.pictures.zimbio.com

3. The Nets will make a big time blockbuster trade Proky needs this team to be in the playoffs next year, so if we are not so good, yet show potential, I would expect a trade for a superstar or at least all star. These players could be CP3, Deron Williams (highly unlikely), Carmelo Anthony. Usa_basketball_challenge_fy0pq29eibsl_medium

via www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com

4. Avery Johnson will be a top 5 coach of the year candidate It’s no surprise the Nets will be doubted this year. When they do end up with a good record though and are a playoff team, the Nets will most likely have a coach of the year candidate in Johnson. Avery_medium

via blogs.ajc.com

5. The Nets will be the number 6 seed in the Eastern conference. With a very, very deep East now, this is a long shot, but I think with coaching and management it can be done. We have young players who are athletic and talented and I think we could very easily see the Celts as a first round playoff opponent. Nets_collage_medium

NetsDaily Wouldn't it be smarter if....

Recently, we have all been seriously concerened about the Nets and there major screw up in this years free agency. Most of us like the three signings (Outlaw, Petro, Morrow) yet still feel we have a major void at the PF position. But i say, why not let Favors start and turn into this Amare/ Bosh monster?

We all know he is defensively gifted yet his offensive game is rather raw. Some say Boozer on the Nets would mean the Nets could mold Favors, but i think thats crazy. Theres no molding. If you're in the NBA, especially with the type of potential Favors has, all you need is playing time (look at DH and BLo) to truly excel. And obviously a good work ethic/coaching.

Im telling you guys, the reason the Nets might not have seriously gone after Boozer or another PF could be because they want to see Favors develop, and i truly believe we will see him start and is his first year be a 13/8/2 guy and create a dynamic frontcourt, with TWill, Favors, and Lopez. I mean, i get really excited when i think of something like that.

Terrence Williams has often has been compared to a poor mans LeBron and with the proper coaching and playing time will porbably be Jason Kidd with a different body.

Derrick Favors has been compared to Stoudemire and Bosh. Again, if he can steadily improve over the course of the season, he could be one of the best power forwards in the game.

Brook Lopez will always be considered and outstanding center with unlimited potential, much like Favors. He has been compared to Tim Duncan.

So, why dont we continue to build around this front court, forget about getting an old, injury prone PF, and what this team grow?

NetsDaily The Nets are on the verge of becoming the Yankees

Ok. So we all know who the Yankees are, we know about the “Core Four”, the outstanding management, and a manager who will go down as one of the best. The Yankees,, in the modern generation, have had an organization bursting with optimism, a winning indset, and lots of mula.

So… my theory is by next year we will very well be the NY Yankees of Basketball. Let’s think about it

Mikhail Prokhorov- George Steinbrenner

Both want to win and have the money and education to back it up.

Rod Thorn-Brian Cashman

Geniuses who know how to handle assembling a team.

Avery Johnson-Joe Torri

Winners. Great coaches. The people who manage and handle talent.

The Core Four

Devin Harris-Derek Jeter

Brook Lopez- Jorge Posada

Chris Bosh- Andy Petite

LeBron James- Mariano Rivera

So at the end of the day, we will be playing in New York alongside the people who basically exactly resemble  us.

NetsDaily Thoguhts on Shaq and A.I. signings?

I know this sounds crazy but... lets go get Shaq and Allen Iverson! We are in need of a backup center and backup point guard and Shaq and iverson are veterans and ticket sellers! Obviously, this is assuming we either

A. dont get LeBron James or any other max free agent

B. Sign David Lee or a smaller contract FA

C. dont sign anyone

I think this is a good idea if all else fails, what do you guys think? i know AI doesn't sound like the best idea, but he wants to help any team that wants him!opinions? dont be too harsh!!!

Also quick question: Can we use Proky's pocket money to sign free agents?
